it can't be Kanuri. Population of Kanuri speakers in 1987 (let's give room for population growth) is 4 million. And that includes nigeria, Chad (Chad has a large number of Kanuri people), Niger, southern Sudan and northern Cameron. It's only spoken in Borno and Taraba in nigeria. So it can't be the 4th largest.
