It's not corruption. It's our mind set. It's ingrained in each and every one of us.For instance, let's answer a truth question. Is there anyone here who would refuse and offer to split the billions of dollars Abacha looted 50-50?

Just one person.Even the "born again" Christians and "adept" Alfa's are welcome to the quiz.

Anyone?Hmmm? Billions to be shared?Anyone?

Lol

I would, if I know it could cost me my life. Try that in China and see if you will live to tell about it.

If a project costs $100 Million and the contractor spent $30 million in bribes to secure the contract, after recouping his $30 million, where does he get the shortfall which is needed to complete the project.
Does this have anything to do with abandoned projects found all over Nigeria. Power plants, Steel plants, Rail projects. Road projects and so on and on.
Corruption has brought Nigeria to it's knees. It has to be removed, like a cancer. We should make the risks of taking a bribe far more dangerous than the reward.

The people who are making the policies in Nigeria are probably more diasporan than the diasporans. They live in a cocoon, entirely disconnected from the people they pretend to lead. If you want to blame diasporans, you better start from Abuja.

there are many idiots in the diaspora than i thought - this thread has just proved me right -  can rest my case.

They steal, they kill, they rob, they rape, they steal identities, they do credit card fraud, they do 419, they are everything evil, yet they come online to NairaLand to castigate the country, castigate the government, castigate everything Nigeria- these criminals live amongst them, but instead of fiching them out and letting them stop spoiling the name Nigeria, they leave those ones alone and focus on the government, focus on the country as if they are saints, I like to expose as much of them as i can, you just watch out- and befor anyone will say it is because i dont have visa to go abroad, please shove that in your father's butt hole, if you want my residence permit, tell me, and i will borrow you. hahahahah - stupid goons.

Your post will make a lot of sense if these people became criminals only after they left Nigeria. It still doesn't explain the reasons why Nigeria is so unbearable for millions of it's law abiding citizens.

Diasporia Nigerians  undecided  some of these people if not most are part of the problem. I read on another thread about one of these people went to naija without a valid visa with the sole intention of bribing her way through yet someone like her would have the effrontery to complain about corruption someday. I am so sick of  the "i live abroad and therefore I am better you"  and to prove my point they also part of the problem here's a list of the so called diasporians that have gone to Nigeria to contribute to the rot and before the shit start to fly, I am a diaspora Nigerian and I have been for almost 15yrs and I hate it
Bola Tinubu (Ex- Gov Lagos state)
Andy Uba (Ex presidential aide)
James Ibori (Ex- Gov Delta State)
Chimaroke Nnamani (Ex-Gov Enugu state)
Diran Odeyemi ( Aide to Gov Alao Akala).
Dimeji Bankole ( Speaker NASS)

This should tell you that the problem with Nigeria is not simply Diaspora Nigerians, or Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo Nigerians. I have alway believe there is one tribe of Nigerians responsible for our problems, they are called the elite Nigerians.
They come from all corners of Nigeria and we get our leaders from their stock. We must never cease to hold their feet to the fire, lest Nigeria is doomed.

why we hate Nigeria so much? by the diasporians?
A lot of thoughts came to mind when i saw this topic, and all of them are unprintable. do you think because you were fortunate enough to leave the country, you have the right to malign it? Accepted, this country has a thousand and one faults, but its my country, wherever I go, whatever i do, i will always be proud to be called a Nigerian. I cant imagine myself being anywhere else. Diasporians!!! Bah! who the f@#k do you think you are As far as am concerned whoever pasted this topic is a disillusioned fool who has lost touch with his Identity, if u think there are a thousand things wrong with my beloved country, then take the next flight home and try to do something bout it! dont sit a thousand miles away and type wateva rubbish that comes to your mind.

Your anger is misplaced my brother. If anything is holding you down, it is a system that rewards dishonesty rather than hard work. You may be better off to check out yourself.

When Babangida lied to us with his "Let us remain here and salvage it together" adverts, what did he do? He went ahead and looted the country to a stupor. He might have said let us remain here and die together!

Those who forget the mistakes of the past are bound to repeat them.

@poster,
I have never met any 'diasporan' who hates Nigeria, so i wonder where you got that from. The fact that a lot of people who know how things should work and who aware that there is really no escuse for Nigeria to remain the laughing stock of the world, are bitter and sometimes complain doesn't mean they hate Nigeria.

Honestly, the sense i get from reading some of the things written by some of the guys in Nigeria who 'defend' Nigera in the name of patriotism and love for Naija, is that they are in serious denial. Someone thinks that they are jealous but i won't go down that route. Loving something or someone doesn't mean you shouldn't say the truth about that person or thing. Keeping silent in the midst of such immoral violation of ones basic rights to dignity, such as is pervasive in Nigeria, is actually more indicative of antipathy than the professed love these guys in Naija think they have. But still i won't say the 'J' word, because i think that would be like 'adding salt to injury'.

I sense that it's this denial of some and antipathy of the majority, which has us stuck in the decay we're in in Nigeria. How can change then happen, if people are 'satisfied' with the status quo or won't speak up for fear of being labelled unaptriotic? Perhaps 'satified' is not even the word i should use. I think that the majority are not really 'satisfied'. Theirs is more of a learned helplessness. A resignation to an 'ee go better mentality' that have made people to live in squalor and think they are living in a functioning society. People have become so overwhelmed with helplessness and hopelessness that they have become oblivious to the fact that they don't really have to continue living like animals in a country that has so much potential. Yet some dare to call speaking out against it as 'being unpatriotic!

Seriously, some people are actually more phucked up than i thought!

Dude, may God bless you. I'm always amazed at how desensitized some people are to the situation in Nigeria.
Nigeria is a country that have no business being poor. I can never understand how you can be patriotic and accept anything less.
This country is not working and we all know Nigerians in the diaspora are not responsible for it, why shift the blame. As far as I'm concerned Nigerians abroad are also a victim of  the ineptitude of our so called leaders.
Wake up people!
Politics / Re: Nigerians Should Stop Moaning And Roll Up Their Sleeves by Megadeals: 6:35pm On Nov 01, 2009
In one breath you upbraid Nigerians for leaving in search of opportunities abroad, in another you commend the efforts of of some Chinese who also left their "booming" country for similar reasons.
Rather than blame people who are trying to leave, why not say something about a system that produces thousands of graduates every year without any prospects of employment.

People will always look for opportunities wherever they think they can find it. If the opportunities are there in Nigeria, I'm very sure most people will stay.

If you are almost 30 years old, University graduate, no job  and still living at home with your parents, driving a taxi cab somewhere in America will start to look like a good idea.

The real enemies of Nigeria are the people who will rather keep quiet in the face of blatant rape of a rich country like Nigeria and then blame it on hapless Nigerians who are just trying to get by.

Nigeria is not going anywhere until we start killing all the thieves amongst us. Especially those in high positions. They have effectively reduced the giant of Africa to a bumbling midget.
No development, nothing, Nada, Zilch can ever happen in an environment where the quickest way to riches is through political power. This is an aberration of the highest order. But the most frightening thing indeed, is the impassiveness of the Nigerian people.

Its kinda new to me too,  How would you get a stolen car out of the U.S ? I don't know,  doesn't one need to submit the correct papers for it to be shipped,  I know people ship cars but that car needs to be cleared appropriately then people put <illlegal items inside the car> I've heard of durgs being shipped but a stolen car,   lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

Can someone explain to me how this is done ?!

How would you get a stolen car out of the U.S?  If the White House was movable, Nigerians would have attempted to steal it. The question should be how did we get to be so dishonest.

Nigerians are unbelievable. I have a car that is currently being held up in Spain, because two out of the four cars in the container were stolen! A price i have to pay because RO-RO is not allowed from Canada and because Nigerians too criminally minded.

These criminal activities affects everyone. It used to be when you meet a foreigner, upon learning your nationality, they will say Oh! you guys are very good soccer players. Now it's simply Ah! you guys are very smart, an euphemism for being a criminal.

I don tire for Nija o jare.
