Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, yesterday made a surprise visit to the Abeokuta residence of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and begged him for forgiveness. The visit came barely 20 hours to the Presidential campaign visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the state. It will be recalled that Daniel has had a strained relationship with Obasanjo with the latter launching both verbal and media attack on the former.
Daniel was accompanied during the visit by Chief Afe Babalola, Chief Kessington Adebutu and Mr. Kenny Martins among several others.

Daniel, who addressed journalists after a closed door meeting which lasted about two and a half hours, said that during the meeting he begged former President Obasanjo for forgiveness. He said: ‘’We must give thanks to God. What has happened here today is a manifestation of the work of God. I want to seize this opportunity to thank all the elders and also thank Baba for the opportunity of this meeting.

‘’I don’t have any doubt in my mind that we can work things out. I think what we have started today is a manifestation of better things to come. As we have all along been aware. Yes, it is indeed true that a large number of our supporters feel disenchanted, but, I think even if you go to war, we have to sit down to begin to find peaceful solution. That’s what we have started today. I have no doubt in my mind that we will talk to our ourselves. I can tell you that PDP remains a strong, united party. You know that I have never left. Those who left felt aggrieved and we are starting the process of reconciliation.

Asked whether he begged Obasanjo during the closed door meeting, Daniel said: ‘’Let me say this to you, I am a true Yoruba son. In Yoruba land, it does not matter who is right or who is wrong, it is the young person that will beg the older person. So, I have begged Baba (Obasanjo) and I will continue to beg him”.

When journalists asked Chief Obasanjo whether he had forgiven Daniel, he went biblical saying: “If you are a true Christian, your prayer will be our father who art in Heaven, You will end up by saying: ‘’Forgive our trespasses, my sins, whether knowingly or unknowingly. ‘I pray to God to forgive me my sins. I forgive people who sin against me.”

He reiterated his believe in the PDP governorship candidate saying,
that there is no other candidate for the gubernatorial race than Chief
Adetunji Idowu Olurin.
