Velocitron: I never read articles from biased sources or based on biased studies. The study in the article was done by the "The American Association of University Women". Doesn't sound very neutral to me.
Besides, other factors such as work experience, pay negotiation, confidence (to ask for raises), connections, time spent at that company, education etc were not accounted for.
You can fumble with numbers or twists facts as much as you want to. There just isn't a wage gap between men and women in developed countries. The question is whether pay gap between men and women still exists or not. If wage gap does not exist, a reasonable thing to do would be to provide a positive, not normative, study to back up the claims that it does not exist. This is assuming that the difference between a positive and normative study is clear. Wage gap between male and female workers on the same level, with the same experience and doing the same job is real in some sectors/industries, it exists, even in UK and USA. If the claim that wage gap does not exist is true, then it means that it must be true in all sectors/industries. Clearly, this is not the case. Positive studies do not just support that. Any interested person might want to see this .. http://ebm.email.efinancialcareers.com/c/tag/hBVE9GcB82qzIB85GwSAAMhZvE4/doc.html?t_params=PASSWORD%3DB82qzIAAMhZvBVE9Gcd77W5fCOhkce Am I happy about the pay difference? Definitely No. But that does not preclude the fact that it exists in some sectors. I'm quite familiar with the financial services sector in the UK/US, that's why examples are tilted in that direction. The same thing may exist in other sectors, who knows.. I'm well aware that a bill has been passed in the US which makes it illegal for employers to pay different wages to men and women who perform the same work, but this does not erase the simple fact that wage gap still exists between male and female workers. Even the white house acknowledges it .. https://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/equal-pay Obama's administration is doing all it can to close this gap. But, again, the gap just still exists. Unless white house and other quoted sources are lying. Finally, people should do some research before making claims. Reality is not always the same as how we wish things were. An excerpt from https://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/equal-pay.... Decades of research shows that no matter how you evaluate the data, there remains a pay gap — even after factoring in the kind of work people do, or qualifications such as education and experience — and there is good evidence that discrimination contributes to the persistent pay disparity between men and women.... If after this, there is still persistence in the claim that wage gap between males and females does not exist, and no sound source or positive research is cited to back claims, then I would've no choice than to give up. |

Velocitron: In fact, pay discrimination is very illegal.
It's because women work fewer hours and do less overtime in a pay-per-hour job. So who do you think is taking home more money for the same work? The woman who works from 9 to 4 or the man who works from 8 to 6 and does overtime on the weekends? Makes sense - but wages for many full time formal jobs are largely stated per annum. One reason for pay discrepancy is the paid maternity leave which women enjoy. Wage gap may be decreasing, but it's very real and still exists. You may want to read this insightful report published on Forbes http://www.forbes.com/sites/forbeswomanfiles/2014/04/07/the-awful-truth-of-the-gender-pay-gap-it-gets-worse-as-women-age/ |

njokusboy: You nah... Idi funny The Nobel prize aint no ordinary prizen it's given to people with remarkable achievements in certain discipline.... Einstein won it for his achievements in physics, John Nash won it in economics for "game theory", as for literature, only 3 people have won it in Africa, soyinka being the first.. Even achebe did not get it,so it's quiet a big deal... Comparing soyinka to adichie is quiet unfair, the gap is too much, it's like comparing chris brown to Michael jackson... Good explanation. With such comparison, the previous poster does Adiche no favours and could even kill her career before it begins. Why not wait for her to even get nominated for the Nobel prize in Literature before the comparison starts.. |

Velocitron: One thing I haaaaaaattte more than anything is this victim culture women and blacks tend to have nowadays! As long as you're a rich, educated woman living in a first world country, you're more privileged than most people so you should be the last person whining about 'oppression'. So what if someone said something rude to you? So that's the definition of 'oppressed'?
No one is holding you back, no 'glass-ceiling', no 'wage-gap' whatever. We women are even lucky that we can use our looks or sex to get by. So stop the whining, please. Wage gap still dey ooh. Men and women doing the same jobs in the same company sometimes earn different wages, with men earning more. Wage gap still exists in developed countries |

100Cents: Take style ?
Be very serious about it. Its good to start seeking wife from age 28..
All those girls who demand one thing after another are not after marrige,. They are called runz girls.. I've missed that 28 mark..Haha. I'm not sure if I was that sophisticated enough for our sisters when I was in my 20's..haha..I tried my best but none show, maybe I didn't try enough. But now, may be I'm a little more sophi..haha..But to be frank, I spent my 20's heavily developing myself..The benefits dey pay off now sha My elder sister wanted to hook me up with her friend's younger sis, but I couldn't really put in the required effort and interest that I normally should have put in, because the chick in question knows some really nice things about me and I didn't want that. There was one I toasted and she gave me her number, but her interest waned when I told her to visit me on a Monday and she wondered I wasn't employed, probably meaning bad market..But in reality, I was on some sort of break. But I guess mid 30's is not a bad time to settle, is it? I'm already working really hard to make myself the mr right, I hope to meet someone genuine too - my mrs right |

AreaFada2: . My brother, if I knew the strategy, I'd be very unpopular with the ladies BUT I'd have a VERY FAT bank account indeed! Sadly, there's isn't really. Most of the strategies if followed, it's what Nairaland ladies like to describe as follows:
deeply insecure, has trust issues, snoops around an innocent girl/wife, he does not even trust himself, he knows he doesn't deserve the woman, not man enough, he's sexist, misogynist, etc.
One feminist wannabe or the other will find a way to use one of the above even if completely irrelevant.
Basically, it will involve carefully monitoring and observing her right from courtship. Try to know the reason she's with you. Is it because you're successful or at least presented yourself as such? Or is it love?
Is she VERY materialistic and is only concerned about beautiful things now or talks about achieving solid goals for the future together? How does she react to a situation when money is not flowing or when you pretend money is not flowing?
How do you rate her principles, morality and integrity. Be aware that ladies are experts at pretending. Understand her environment and upbringing.
I say upbringing rather than religion because religion has been so bastardised now, that the married pastor might even be the one who disvirgined her. So all that stuff is losing credibility fast. Only God knows his people now.
Fact is from your observations, you might be able to tell to some extent.
But remember, ladies keep their game very close to their chest. For them, fear of exposure and public disgrace is very big, so they take extra precautions. Playing the part and presenting the perfect picture of a virtuous woman is all important.
If killing you the husband is what it will take to protect that fake image, she'll have no qualms doing it. |

100Cents: An average Nigerian girl lacks manners..
Poor upbringing and runz mentality.. So, how can one dig deep and know the ones with manners? Mhen, I'm in my thirties ooh and I don dey take style find wife, although God has not yet led me..It really scares me how some ladies try to justify some sub-optimal behavior. But, this lady is question may not be bad, she could have done what she did out of ignorance, not because she bad. |

palma: Was the said dad not aware of the grand finale? Would running to the press solve the issue. He only made an already bad situation worse. Does the lady have no family to report her to? Has he so far been active as a father? Did he share in other major challenges in the baby's life or just this one particularly? Why did he not go to the press before now when the lady sidelined him? This situation can not be compared to picking up passports because a woman has the ultimate right to keep her kids from an irresponsible father, now before am attacked i didn't say this man was irresponsible cuz i don't know him, i am just saying lets keep quiet and listen to the other-side if she wishes to talk. I don't want to talk too much about this guy issues here because I know him well.. What other side do some of you keep hammering on? Somebody brought another person to impersonate her husband probably without his consent and notice, as he has said, and we are here talking about hearing from the other side..I wonder what more we want to hear. As I said before, the only time the let's wait for the other party to talk will make some sense is when the other party comes and says 'my husband was aware of this, in fact I told him he would be represented because I thought he wasn't supportive enough in the entire process'. Otherwise, a sane argument would struggle to see how hearing from the other party could provide any justifiable reason for having someone else represent a husband at an event without his consent. I just pray to God because if some arguments I see and read here are anything to go by, then I reserve my comments |

He is claiming to be taking care of her, why didn't he know that her daughter has advance to the 3rd round if is really taking care of her. I'm saying this because of the experience i got here with some of my nigeria friends who would rather stop working in other not to pay for their Child here in Europe. AreaFada2: But who knows if the PZ presentation ceremony man is the actual biological dad?
From DNA tests, 50% of first born kids belong to another man outside.
30% of all kids belong to another man outside. It can be a neighbour, former boyfriend/sugar daddy, work colleague, client, best friend's husband, husband's best friend, driver, gateman, etc.
This might be the real dad coming out at last.

palma: Will this man have gone to the press if the said child did not win? Before we point that finger counter your accusations first. We only read one side of the story, and in yorubaland we have a saying that agbo ejo enikan da, agba osika ni." Which means if you listen to just one person's complain and judge then you are a wicked old fool. Let the lady explain why she did what she did before we open our mouth and commit a great offence against an innocent person. This submission will make sense only if it turns out that the husband was aware that he would be represented but still came out and formed 'I didn't know'. Otherwise, there is no justifiable reason why someone will go and pick my passport from the immigration office without my consent, whether or not the immigration officer spelled my name correctly on the passport. |

Because it will hunt her future and the Daughter might end up hating her and trusting her real father. May God settle their home. The same France that demolished opponents and dazzled the crowd in 1998 and Euro 2000, got knocked out in group stages of the world cup 4years later, , it happens!
But we can't say because France deteriorated in 2002, therefore their cup winning team of 1998 that demolished tournament favourites Brazil was but an average team, same is applicable to the SE of 2013 and that of 2014/2015.
Teams rise and fall. That is no reason to use current performance to judge a once great team. Very scientific arguments so far. Really waiting to hear counter arguments from the persons whose posts you responded to. |
