And how exactly have I been uncivil towards the OP? Can you show where I have been discourteous?

I was Replying AreaFada2 and talking about landlords in general based on my own experience house-hunting, that's all. SUCH a statement as the one I referred to, is indeed inane and that cannot be downplayed in any way as an uncivil statement.

Meanwhile the fact that you faced challenges due to racism and/or xenophobia in a foreign country does not in any way mean that the same nonsense should not be criticised in Nigeria! And at least in a civilised nation you can report such landlords to the appropriate authorities whereas all we can do in Nigeria is rant. So please you should let us rant freely about where the shoes hurt.

Your points about Nigerian tenants sound valid but last I checked, it's not the landlords duty to do law enforcement, although I partly agree that it is the landlord's prerogative to do background checks if he so desires. Making choices based on perception of who is a trouble-free tenant based on work hours - especially in Nigeria where anyone can "form activity" and step out all day - is a joke. The world is way flatter than that today, what with virtual offices and all.

I have a friend who's a freelance programmer and as such works at home, and he has problems with his landlord cos "he's always at home pressing computer like a yahoo boy" and he's been given a quit notice. If that isn't folly spewed by a self-acclaimed educated landlord, then I'll like to know what it is.
I hope you're not trying to correct what I didn't even imply in the first place. If so, you may have to try and reread the statement that necessitated anything foreign and why I made such statement.

Home or abroad, landlords choose what they want and reject what they don't want, it's that simple. Very quick to jump to racism and/or xenophobi which was never mentioned in my most, so I really don't know what you're referring to here, definitely not my previous post.

Everything does not boil down to racism or whatnot. There are Nigerians who own homes abroad and rent these places to people, and my submission did not even posit that some certain oyinbo people denied me a house. Still wondering hard where racism was mentioned or implied that necessitated the referral.

All these issues of civilized nation this and that that I keep reading on forums. In a civilized nation, one does not teach house owners how to run their houses or report them to one big brother who will discipline them if they don't rent out their houses. I don't want to try and water down other points you raised, but please if you want to call out my points, do so on what is implied from my posts. Not sure that is hard to achieve.

Finally, yes, I remain the poster! It's a no-brainer realizing. The mod banned the first handle for suspected spamming, I suspect. I then used the other one to get my clients. Thankfully, loads of people satisfying my criteria have been calling. May have to cherry-pick.

You are spot on!

I tire for Nigerian Landlords. Always discriminating without thinking out of the box about other use cases.

In a civilised country, once you get rent, even if you like sit at home and loaf, as long as you're paying rent on time and you're not a problem to the neighbourhood/society or in trouble with the law/police, who gives a damn what you do with your time or whether you have a child or you're married?

Is the landlord your parent or are we back in a boarding school or secondary school hostel again? Some will even add tribal discrimination.

E.g. "I want only working class Igbo or Delta single woman without children. Preferably a banker who leaves home early and comes home late".

That is utter nonsense. Property searches are difficult enough in Lagos without people complicating things with inanity.

Your points are strong and well noted, but you must learn to be civil and not throw condescending words at people you hardly know. The above requirements by the OP, I suspect, are predicated on some things, one of which is the size of the apartment as clearly written. I think a poster above made reference to that, which is a sensible deduction in my view.

The civilized environment such as the western countries you may be talking about, some of us have faced worse conditions there. You don't want to hear my personal stories with getting accommodation outside the shores of Nigeria. Meanwhile, in my experience in Nigeria, many sit-at-home people can be dangerous. Many of them are only time bomb waiting to explode. I don't expect this statement to be agreed with, but it's a fact I have seen.

I do not blame landlords who try to minimize the possibility of getting criminals and trouble makers as tenants. Where I have issues is tribalism and religious discrimination...But again, some landlords do these out of experience. I agree that experiences cannot be generalized to all people across board, but the landlords still have to protect themselves in every way possible.

I suppose this question is a bit too difficult for you to answer, no?

especially given that the OP's original post was

and the same Tanimola, whom you found his post very inspiring, would like to know which specific "kind" of mathematics he's good at.

"I deal with well educated people, bla bla bla and the world revolves around my ego bloated, empty headed, face wink "

Most people i know don't go about asserting how smart they are, people who do are more likely than not, suffering self esteem issues, usually from their own deficiencies in the field they claim to be "experts" in.

I suggest you be the one to bury your head in shame, not unless you could provide examples of people who are only experts at one field of mathematics and suck badly at others.
You are really very pathetic and not so smart. Although forum members might not want to talk, but they can all see big flaws in your arguments. Does being a smart mathematics graduate make me an expert in mathematics? No!

I am really sorry for you. Keep on exposing your ignorance. I am on point and I am very sure of this one.

Don't hold the next iron for dear life. Give the house an example of your so called experts in all FIELDs of mathematics.

Second, if you read from the very beginning, in this case, I'm assuming you have any smartness in you to understand the simplest bits, I have clearly mentioned who i believe an expert in a certain subject should be.
Give an example of a person that is an expert in all FIELDS of mathematics.

House, see this one is asking me questions with questions. Can you just see the naija mentality clearly being displayed here- Gush. I asked, T22 or yamazu moderator, a simple question and the so called learned graduate responded with another question.

It is obviously that you have lost it. Pride will never make you see road. I will give you time to google and come up with good and well articulated answers.

You are intellectually pathetic. I know some non-hard science grads on nairaland that would argue more sensibly. You are clearly and definitely not one of them. You are no more coherent.

I am beginning to sense that I am wasting my time. Imagine asking questions when asked a question.

don't be stuppyd, whatever is wrong with goggled names?

Mathematics is a broad discipline, YES!. .but it's also a discipline that cuts across each other. Defining expertise come with objectivity. In my view, you're an expert in a field as long as you can apply existing knowledge or abstract thoughts to solve practical problems in such fields.   There's no rocket science involved;

If you aren't good at Calculus and Algebra, there's no way you can claim to be an expert in Differential Equations----if you aren't smart at differential equations, there's no way you can work on complex variables----if you aren't smart at complex variables, there's no way you can be an expert in group/number/knot theory.

Many of the individual names i listed up there have special interests in specific fields or another, but more likely than not, they do have expertise in unrelated mathematical disciplines.

Saying "I'm a mathematician who likes statistics but hate algebra" is pathetic and laughable.

I don't see how it will add value to what is being discussed.  Much of what was in the initial post had an insulting tone to it and on second thoughts, i feel it's best if i don't tow that line.

cry cry cry cry

So, tell us, Mr Solid Maths Graduate, which "specific field"  of maths graduate are you? I'd assume by the rubbish you've successfully posted up there and also given the broad nature of mathematics, no individual can simply lay claim to being a maths graduate, No?

Your logical ability is really very, very weak. It is an insult to debate with a person like you. So, to you and your shallow mind, being a graduate of mathematics implies being an expert in all areas of mathematics? You are indeed a non-physical or quantitative science graduate. Why meddle into a matter you know nothing about? Your logic is weak and pathetic.

Is this what we call a graduate or may be Reading University graduate. Naija's future, I weep!

You are a not so smart person. I just concluded!

You are running everywhere to defend yourself. With people like you, Nigeria will surely fail.

Back to topic, T22 points are clear and well articulated, unlike your haphazard thought process. The last time I checked, English was still the language spoken in Nigeria and so I expect a so called graduate to be able to manage to understand the language. Not to now imagine a graduate of one of those unknown UK schools-pathetic indeed.

T22 points are clear. Show us a person that is an expert in all fields of mathematics. Don't rumble and try to grab the next wall for life.

Go straight to the point. Give nairalanders an example of someone who the world knows as an expert in all fields of mathematics.

Stop beating about the bush. I deal with well-educated people. There are some of them on nairaland. You don't appear as one. This topic you are on has exposed you.

Even the moderators are asking you to open your not so smart brain and think. Imagine, is that difficult.

For the last time, and I quote yamakuza, google very well and give us at least one mathematician who is an expert in All Felds of mathematics.

Simple.

Everybody just wants to appear smart on nairaland nowadays, oshi o da.

------- are all called mathematicians, because they've embraced mathematics as a way of life.  The fact that some of them have chosen to specialize in a specific field does not necessarily mean they aren't hot shots at the rest.

Case in View: Carol Alexander.

Carol Alexander studied something in the line of algebraic number theory; she taught advanced econometrics  at Oxford; taught calculus at an advanced level at Reading/supervised phd students working on game theory; worked as an Algorithmic director; wrote books on Market risk analysis; has written dozens of journals on topics in advanced mathematical theory and computer programming.

If you've found a student who's only good at statistics but sucks badily at calculus, then you have simply found yourself a book worm and i suspect that you, my friend, are a book worm, not a mathematician. That you come on a public forum to announce your knowledge of ODEs and PDEs plus how you've spent donkey years studying the history of mathematics, plus how you've dined and wined with Alan who? all the more proves you are just a normal everyday guy who happened to stumble on a few maths textbook here and there.
I have to talk on this one.

Tyro (hope u even know the meaning sef),

Why not bury your head in shame or learn from a compatriot who obviously knows this subject matter far better than you do? Pride will kill ignorant Nigerians someday.

All the links you gave were purely goggled. Even at that, most of your so called all-round-experts- in mathematics are actually financial mathematicians, risks analysts and professors of financial mathematics. The other ones are geometricians and experts in other fields. Riemann, is integration theory and surfaces. Cauchy, even though he contributed very well to the field of mathematics, can never be regarded as an expert in all kinds of mathematics. I can also see that you are trying to change the topic of debate. This shows that you are one business admin guy, or´accounting guy or econs guy or FINANCE guy trying to fool others and contribute to what he knows nothing about. You are really pathetic.

Don’t even try taking me on. I am a solid mathematics graduate. I will floor you at once. Reading university, not so cool.

@OP, just do your best and improve on any skills you have. You will get there. I promise you. First class or no first class. Just be sedulous.

@ Ajanlekoka, Thanks Sir for your previous advices. I am making headways regarding securing a job. I am already interviewing with top MNCs around the world. It's not been easy!

@Tanimola22, I suspect I know you. You mentioned Alan Beardon. He is an Emeritus Professor of Cambridge Uni; he gave a very short course at my school. A very vast mathematician who acknowledges his limitations haha. Did you attend Unilag Math and later Part 3 Tripollis in Cambridge? I am putting two and two together. Tani, is it you? U be nairalander? Talk now now.

@yamakuza

Are you sure the man/woman knows what ALL FIELDS is? I doubt from his post. Let's see what he will come up with next. Perhaps, Wole Soyinka is an expert in all fields of mathematics.

By the way, Chike Obi, the renowned Nigerian mathematician, last taught in my alma mater before his death at 84 or so. not sure the exact age.

Another mistake I have long noticed in some Niaja people's construction of a sentence in the Anglais language is as follows:

The man has drank water; he has drank coke; she 'have' drank XYZ. This major killing of the queen's language leads me to the basic principle of the use of has, have and had, Most people find it difficult to accept (except, american error) the fact that have, has and had can only go with past participle. They prefer to make a sentence such as Itankan has ran for the office. grin. They also love to say we have came here and I did not spoke to him yesterday, Kai, Anglais don suffer.

Anyway sha, grammar, grammar, grammar no be our language!
EducationRe: ABC Of Common Errors And Mistakes In English by meiloya: 8:41am On Jun 17, 2011
Nice one Ogbeni ola olabiy.

But, wait a second, do you think it is really possible to always construct the language flawlessly under intense pressure? I think it is not so easy. I believe the language is easier written than spoken. Nobody is exempted from making mistakes here and there; even if a person studied the language up to master's level at the uni, there are still limitations. Even native speakers, very educated ones O, are guilty of wrong Anglais. I have meet countless of both British and American native speakers who, instead of saying one of the boys that are here, said, one of the boys that is here. Many of them also say with regards to what we spoke about yesterday, instead of with regard to what we spoke about yesterday.

One morning in naija, I was in my oga's office while he was interviewing this light skinned chick. During the discussion, this chick, because of tension, said my researches would be of the highest quality possible, Kai, my oga just wrote her off immediately, I used style to tell my oga that the fact that the chick pluralized research did not imply a low proficiency in the language, But my oga, a Nigerian returnee from the US, wrote her off immediately, This girl na English Graduate O. I no go talk her school sha, make some people no vex for me. Nonetheless, it is good to always practise, One day, person go reach Obama and co level. Me sef don talk informations before while giving a presentation some years ago. Tension can really make person make mistakes. I look back and laugh whenever I remember.

The idea sha is for one to keep on working on oneself. Concerted efforts geared at improving spoken ability will surely yield results in the long run. No doubt!

Success.

EducationRe: Should I Do My Masters In France, Germany Or Russia? by meiloya: 11:55pm On Jun 16, 2011
Shoot for Germany or France.  Bone Russia, unless, of course, you want to attend the famous school of oil and gas there.  German and French schools are more than recognized anywhere in the world. Check the latest ranking.

The benefits of studying in Germany are numerous. One major advantage is the love the country has for students studying there, international students inclusive. The cost of living is low and transportation to any other city in Germany is free for all students with valid student identity cards. You can also easily move to the US for further studies. On the other hand, the cost of living in France, especially Paris, is killing. French people do not really give a damn about students.

If you are interested in Oil and Gas Management, then try IFP Paris. The school has links with any oil and gas coy you can imagine, You may even be funded by an oil coy if your kpali is unusually tapping. Don't forget to peruse the websites of schools in Holland, They are also highly rated and courses are given in Anglais.

Make your choice.

Success!
