Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose (in military fatigues) with members of the Ekiti chapter of the Hunters’ Association of Nigeria on Wednesday.
Fayose at a security summit with the huntsmen urged them to set up a 24-hour surveillance of the state to prevent attacks by herdsmen following the recent massacre of over 70 people in Benue State by marauding herdsmen.
He told the hunters: “Tell them Ekiti is a no-go area. My state is a no-go area. Those who want to make Ekiti ungovernable are wasting their time. Don’t kill anybody but defend your towns. Keep vigil on Ekiti. Don’t sleep again. Arise and fight for our people. How can the life of a cow be worth more than the life of men? My hunters, go and represent me well. If you have juju, use it. Make them (herdsmen) sleep off. Anything you have, use it. Make sure your people are not killed.”

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), on Thursday, went ahead with their protest in Kaduna despite warnings and tightened security by the Police.

The protesters were seen marching through the major roads in the state capital and insisted on proceeding to the Government House, where they intend to submit their protest letter to the governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The National President of the NLC, Ayuba Philibus Wabba, said: the Police cannot deter us – people determined can never be defeated and therefore, we are determined, we will make our point.

“We will submit our letter of protest, and if they like they should act but I think it is a welcome development because workers have seen that despite our olive hand of fellowship, to try to see how those issues are resolved on the table, we have seen that with impunity, the decision of the National Industrial Court is being set aside, with impunity, people are not allowed to exercise their freedom of association and this is not what we bargained for,” he added.

This comes despite resistance by Policemen and other security operatives who mounted surveillance at major roads and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat in the state capital to prevent the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), from going ahead with the protest.

Policemen were also drafted along the Kaduna-Abuja highway to prevent NLC members from other states and the FCT from entering into Kaduna state for the anti-government protest.

Briefing journalists, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abeh said the police were worried that hoodlums might want to take advantage of the public.

Several media organisations this morning reported that Yusuf who was involved in a bike accident on Tuesday, was flown to Germany for further treatment in the early hours of today.

Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a text message sent to Daily Trust, said the report is false.

Yusuf who is President Buhari's only son, broke a limb and had a head injury in the bike accident that happened at Gwarimpa area in Abuja. He is being treated at the Cedarcrest hospital in Abuja.

For a few days, the brutality and extrajudicial execution performed by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) becomes the topic of debate amongst Nigerians at home and abroad. We are horrified by the stories told by victims, friends and family members of victims who have narrated experiences of extortion, torture, murder and disappearance of friends and loved ones.

According to saharareporters there will be a peaceful #EndSARS protest nation wide which also includes favouring the police in terms of increase in payment, for effective work.



1. To this end, we will be holding a group of peaceful protests around the country on Monday, December 11, 2017, at locations in several cities to call for the immediate dismissal of SARS as a police unit.

2. These stories, many supported with pictures and videos, told by thousands of Nigerians about their suffering in the hands of men of the unit show that indeed the unit has outlived its uselessness and has become a menace to the Nigerian society.



3. It is important to state that our protests and the calls for the dismissal of SARS will be located within the context of the calls for the reform of the Nigerian Police Force. Whilst calling for the scrapping of the unit, we are also calling for greater funding of the police, better training, the provision of better equipment and living quarters, the provision of insurance, the establishment of a stricter code of conduct, the public prosecution and discipline of itinerant police officers, and such other connected matters.
