AVG Internet Security 2014 is EPIC. You should install it. I use this and its amazing.

Great! Now restart your computer - with the external device plugged in.

(But hang on - What kind of external device is having problem? a USB or what exactly).

Plug your connected device - i presume you mean something like Hard drive, USB flash.

Click start - Right click computer

Click Manage - (A window pops open)

Click on computer management -

Check if your drive is on the right hand side of the open window

My observations and advice:

You need to download the correct Windows 8.1 display driver for your Lenovo.Is your laptop 64bits? or 32bits.

Also please note that Lenovo DOES NOT yet have Windows 8.1 display driver created for Thinkpad SL510. But you can install the Windows 7 display driver and see how it goes.

BKings: my HP laptop sometimes goes blank when i try to start it, and remains that way until I power it down on the power button and reboot again before it will show something. Please what is the problem with it and how can I fix it

Go to your desktop , Right click , and the click screen resolution. then you can change the resolution of your screen.

But when I checked the control panel, there is nothing like it to un install. But if I want to update it how will I go about it when connected to the internet and how I be able to pick it for installation. 2. The blinking document search screen has come to be irritatingly stubborn to the extent that I cannot do anything on the pc. Any slight click on the home screen or anywhere too many to number of the screen pop up and I begin to press alt+f4 continuously of the screens. It is blinking and this made even entering of one password or any typing atall practically impossible.

My Observations:


Ok. Following my observation of your previous uploaded pics, I was able to deduce that your problem might be from the ASUS easy flash software installed on your system. ASUS Easy Update is a program designed to manage all installed ASUS programs on the user's PC and check for and update any new versions of the software if available. This service will run in the background when Windows starts and periodically check for updates.


My Advice:

Please go to control panel and uninstall a program called “ASUS Easy Update”. Restart your system and let’s see if you will be prompted with that screen.

KENNSAMMY: thanks brothers. When I press windows + r and clicked startup tab, 360 internet Qihu360 soft... Alone is marked as the culprit. This 360 internet however is the only antivirus on the pc. Meanwhile, the other trouble with the initial booting is indicated as current OS;default OS , windows 7(c:\windows)... Take a look pls.

The above in bold does not have any thing to do with your UEFI boot device screen always poping up at startup. So i will advice you dont touch anything there.

About the "search window" always poping up.. i think we should solve one problem before the other.

deji2009: Burning cd doesn't have any effect on a laptop.
please follow cd copyright laws. windows media
player would be the ideal software to use in buring
cd's. it would be better if you could google how to
burn cd in media aplayer. it is far better than sometime
telling you.you need a cd-rw or cd-r or +r to record. please
check the blank disc can record before buying it.

I think he posted this question for help regarding how to burn a CD. He didnt really specify if he wants to burn an Audio CD or Video CD.

Anyhooo - I think we should offer help to who ever needs it undermining their technical skills or inability to Google(which is the first step anyways) .

KENNSAMMY: I think I used it once, but long time a go. Like months ago.

@KENNSAMMY, scroll down the list @LordReed suggested and look for a file called "explorer.exe" uncheck it. (If it is in the list and that should solve your problem) - if it isnt in the list - post back here for further troubleshooting.

However,

BOOTMGR (Windows Boot Manager) is a small piece of software, called a boot manager . BOOTMGR help load the winload.exe file used to continue the Windows boot process. So if you don’t have this File (software) your computer cannot load.

Having said that, the only way you can get this file back to your system is through the installation files in the Windows DVD. It is very easy to do. Whenever you have a windows DVD – post back here and I will tell you the steps.

P.S – I hope you do not have any external Hard drive, usb , or Mobile phone plug into the computer during start up. Because that might cause this issue

Ok I will advice you download the free version of driver finder just to be sure of the exact name of your wireless adapter.

The free version of this software will show you the name of the wireless adapter presently installed on your system and tell you if you need a driver for it. however it wont let you download the driver. But its fine. if we have the name of the exact driver - we can then go to HP site to download it. Please see below

I downloaded an app that contained malware. I uninstalled it an tracked down all relating files to it and did same.


However, I think it tempered with my network connection coz tho my wi-fi is working fine, ALL internet using applications cannot connect e.g IE, Bluestacks, Mozilla.

Do what @LordReed advised above and if you still having problems, test your internet connection by doing the below.

hold down your Windows + R key to bring up the Run dialog box as shown below. Then type CMD

the Command prompt window opens.

try to PING WWW.google.com and see if it replies .

This is a virus that hibernates on your temp folder( that is the %temp% folder). firstly press the Windows + R key to bring up the run application as seen below. Then type %temp% hit enter. Please look for any file with name google.vbs then delete it. If you dont see any file - Download AVG antivirus its free and efficient scan your External hard drive and see the outcome.

I would like some advice, i graduated with a degree in Engineering 6 years ago, i was never without a job as after service year i was retained in the Electrical and Mechinacal Construction company i worked, ( prepared bills of quantities, n tender docs) i got bored and got another job with a tech start up(did many different things there), did 2 years there and moved to a oil servicing coy.

I haven't worked long enough as an engineer to seek for an experienced position in an engineering coy and i have been out of school for too long to be considered as a fresh graduate(2-2). My current job has no career growth prospects its pays enough to keep me content, but i worry for the future, so now at cross roads i wonder if i should start up a small business, which i can grow and fall back to, or just keep me busy(my current job is not that demanding) and give me something to invest in, or get a masters degree to both increase my knoweldge and my chances at getting a better job(not better pay, but career growth prospects and security)

Honestly, only you can advice your self in this situation. Any thing i say or anything anyone says will be compared to their situation. For me ill say start up a small business while still working and take up an online masters form . In that case you have the best of all worlds (if that makes sense)

Look underneath your Laptop for your serial number - then post here i will tell you the exact driver you need to download.

Also have you checked that your WLAN switch is toggled on?

Firstly , how do you know your fan isnt working? it might be stuck by dust, have you tried blowing the air vent?

There isnt issue here. I am sure your laptop does have a DVD room. All you need do is get a Bootable Windows 7 or Windows 8 DVD.

Open underneath your laptop and Unscrew the Hard disk compartment - Remove the Old hard disk and fit in the new Hard disk

Put the Windows DVD into the DVD Room.

Power on the laptop and immediately press F12,

Select the DVD as the boot device,

Format the hard disk

and start the installation.

Post back here if you have any concerns.

The fan isnt expensive - I think about N2,000 Not sure though - but please dont power on the system with out the fan. Your processor might be at risk

LordReed: Processes can be stopped from running even if the computer is restarted. If you don't know how, ask you will be taught.

Ok So what is your point?

Killing processes can not guarantee your system running faster. Take it from me - I have been in this game for so long.

Things that can make your system run slow are :

A virus infection
Some conflicting software programs that loads at the startup
Multiple security programs
Recently installed software updates or drivers
Third-party browser plug-ins
Cluttered files over years
A lot of items loading at the startup/Background

And please no further need to argue - Im just here helping users and you can do that too.

I presume your solution would have to stop processes running "everytime" when he/she powers on the system right? smh
