What is the make of your system? Do you know the RAM size? Processor speed? Operating system its running?

1. The system is verrrrrrry slow. - You probably have too many programs installed. Please uninstall some programs./Run virus scan / Defragment your hard disk.

2. How do I install microsoft outlook, word, excel 2007 from the net? : You would have to purchase the Microsoft office software to get Outlook, excel, powerpoint, word and the rest. (you can also download trail version from Microsoft website).

4. The system always freezes when I'm working. -That could mean many things - Background application, overheating,weakhard disk. one cant know until we perform proper diagnostics

You haven't installed your wireless adapter driver. Search the internet and download it .see below for Link in the .txt attachment.

A file in the installation package seems to be corrupted (resulting in checksum error), or it could be a bad burn or damaged media. I'd try a different DVD or try downloading the PES file again.

try to start your computer in "LAST KNOWN good configuration". by pressing F8 at start up the chose last know good configuration.

This is more of a personal decision and your IT skills .

If you are an average user, who uses the computer for some email, little bit of presentations or spread-sheets, movies and web browsing, Ubuntu/Linux is Definitely the operating system you should use. It enables you to accomplish everything that you normally do using Windows 7, its much more secure, has little or no maintenance, and its free of cost.

For advanced users, say web designers, gamers,programmers who develop software for the Microsoft platform, or have certain applications that only run on Windows, you should stick to Windows .

Personally, I like windows for personal use. It feels easy for me.

purplekayc: Go to fedora website and request for cd /dvd of their latest operating system software.Tthey give out free every month all you have to do is fill out a form and you can either request for a cd or dvd in either 32bit (x32) or 64bit (x86).

Gospel367: I want to install a flavour of linux on an old laptop and I have decided to go for linux mint 13 xfce but the problem is that the size of the iso image is too large (up to 820mb) and i doubt any of nigerian network will be fast enough to download it and even if it fast, i dont have cash now to subscribe for a plan. So I want to know whether it is possible to get these my choice of linux flavour that is already burned into a cd or dvd at a minimal cost or from someone who already used it or does not need it anymore or from someone who is kind enough to help a brother in need....thanks

To be honest I'm not sure about the price but the last time I got it was around N7,500.

The problem with these batteries dying quickly is as a result of our power supply.
You either over charge your laptop - for example you plug it on power over night - that's bad! It kills the battery cells .

Secondly - electricity spike or surge spoils the battery . When ever you buy a new batter make sure you buy a surge protector aswell. It helps against too high current killing the battery cells.

Oh nice I haven't tried pertino. how good is it?
I use teamviewer and it's working really ok for me so far. And I can remote to my lab with my iPad aswell while on lunch (I think that is epic ) lol

If you remove the power source from the laptop will the laptop still remain on? Or will it go off! ,

If it goes off then you probably need a new battery . Your battery is dead and calibration can not help.

Calibrating, also known as "conditioning the battery" requires you to fully charge then drain the battery. This ensures all battery cells are working and get routinely used. Calibrating the battery can extend the life of the battery. please see below for procedure.

You need to check the make of your hardware using Device manager. Please let me know if you know how or i post a "how to guide for you ".

CAPS does not have anything do with letter toggling, rather it is just for Upper case and Lower case.

I have always used WSUS in my previous work place and it was supporting a user of about 160 so i just was relaxed with updates and the network was simple for me but where i am not is about 200 servers so i need to implement best practice and no room for error and this time, i have to implement SCCM. My question was how do you test updates? Do you create a test server and install the update there and see if its perfect or you just deploy and pray that it does not mess things up.

Yes - we have hmmmm 4 days period of testing updates. for example. Server Updates, Desktop updates. (We have 2 windows server that is not critical - so what i do is deploy to these 2 servers first and monitor the patch. if all is fine then i deploy to the rest servers. same thing with the desktops.)

Where you able to get through to your desktop? i mean did you see files and folders you have on your desktop when you did a safe boot?

Safe boot will take a little time to load up . so Start in safe mode and leave the pc for few minutes to see if it comes up.


If it doesn't. Then there is something called "system file checker" . You would have to perform on the Laptop. Let me know your progress and i will post how to perfom sfc.

The Windows 8 DVD you have is NOT bootable. please get another bootable windows 8 DVD. (And when you say it refused to Load, what do you mean? ) You put the dvd into your slot and change the boot options to start from CD ?

also please check your boot options in your bios. (Let me know if you can do that )

Ok. So I actively used SCCM 2007 for Software update which was kind of fun. Anyways moving up to 2012 .However, I assume you already have SCCM 2012 Installed in your environment – if not oh well then you will have more work to do. Get an SCCM Lab set up.
WSUS will be used for Pulling all the Updates and metadata from Microsoft as a requirement for SCCM Software updates.

Your question is kinda broad – but if you have any issues while implementing SUS for sccm let me know ill be happy to help.

For best practice, I use the below forum a lot - they are some good guys there for SCCM. I also use Technet – (the turnaround is marvellous)

I think your battery capacity is dying or dead. It is somewhat clear that it is a battery issue. except you have any more information to provide us.

There are several thing that could cause this problem. First you need to think about few questions.
1.Did you install any application recently?
2.Did you install any Hardware recently ? (printer, Memory card,harddrive etc)?
3.Did you uninstall any application?

Now few things you can try

Start your computer in Safe mood and see if it comes up. To start your computer in safe mode - Click the F8 button continuously when your system is booting up. You will be prompted with the message in the below image. Now click Safe me. Post back your findings.
