Skywalker5: Yeap. I got the deal through a friend. Its online course which is why it cheaper than classroom training. I got the confirmation from vmware when i was done.
I was not interested in the training as i have been working with ESXI for a while. Just breeze through it and got my exam voucher.
OH WOW! "information is power" . lol oh well and i paid over £2,000 for mine excluding exam lol .
ComputersRe: Any Interested Person For Vmware Study Group In Abuja by Mellorix: 5:47pm On Aug 31, 2014
Skywalker5: Less than £200. Cant remember the exact amount
Less than £200 for accredited VMware course? Hmmmm are they recognised by VMware?

Feex: Lol cheesy
You are definitely not used to corporate world. I have seen candidates with first class + MSc bounced for 'ordinary' 2.1 candidates.
I can not answer that question on face value. Their performance in the interview will determine who will get the job. One thing you need to know his that most employers don't expect too much from fresh graduates. They just need a smart and intelligent graduate who is ready to learn. They know that you will have to learn on the job irrespective of your 'paper' certifications.
If you think employers DONT expect too much from a fresh graduate then i think you dont know what the present job market in Nigeria is saying. Take few mins to search on the internet ("graduate roles in Nigeria"wink and see the enormous requirements.

Do you know how many unemployed graduates are in Nigeriahuh On what qualities do you think they are being screened?

AND If you cant answer my simple verbal reasoning question above then unfortunately i wouldnt have any further conversation with you at this time. I will have you in mind for any further conversation.Thank you for commenting.

Feex: I didn't mean to interfere but I think you are the one being unnecessarily strong headed here. It's quite simple and clear. AjanleKoko is right.
@Feex
You didn't mean to interfere, but you just interfered ! - OK first let me explain - Please chose one who you will employ from the below.

Candidate A: Graduated with 2.1 . With no experience and no certification - Applied to your company for a Graduate Engineer

Candidate B: Graduated with 2.1 with 6 IT Certifications(which he attained while in the university) and NO experience - Applied to your company for a Graduate Engineer .

Who will you employ? - Please pick wisely -

Before you interfere you might need to scroll up and find out my point before pock-nosing!

Thank you.

AjanleKoko: The only way to get good experience is to get an opportunity to work in a solid organization.
The only way to get into a solid organization in Nigeria is to have a good degree. You can't get experience by writing certification exams in school. Mostly certifications won't get you into those organizations.

How will you get into any of the big telcos, or any of the companies like Accenture, Computer Warehouse, Telnet, Resourcery, BCX, Netpune Software, TechMahindra, Comviva, etc, or any of the OEMs like Ericsson, ALU, Cisco, MS, IBM, Oracle, without a good degree, or good work experience? Where will you get good work experience if you don't get the chance to work somewhere that'll give you the required training + exposure that sums up to experience?

If you don't understand something you should ask. Rather than trying to make smart remarks on Nairaland undecided
cry

ComputersRe: Any Interested Person For Vmware Study Group In Abuja by Mellorix: 11:10am On Aug 31, 2014
Oh great! I am planing to revamp my citrix skills. I just found out that more and more coys in Nigeria use Citrix.

Anyways - Next step for me in terms of Vmware is Vcloud Director and enhance my SRM skills. Have you already looked in to these?
ComputersRe: Any Interested Person For Vmware Study Group In Abuja by Mellorix: 10:08am On Aug 31, 2014
oh that's great to hear! What was the cost of your VCP? Did you go to an accredited training center for it? @skywalker5

AjanleKoko: Well . . . number one weapon for tackling the labor market, if you are looking for degree-level employment, is a good degree
AjanleKoko:
The most important thing, for anybody looking to work with a degree, is to get a good degree.
No need to deceive yourself.
Also there is no 'honeypot' in telecommunications. I've been working in the industry for 13 years now. It's just jobs.
Experience is way more important than certifications. Get a good degree, then use the good degree to look for good opportunities. really good opportunities are very very few in Nigeria. Simples.
.
.
So Looking at the above in Bold... What is your point really? A good degree? or Experience? lol what are you really arguing about.

And which of my points are you trying to counter ? STOP contradicting your self

Contradicting your self! - You would need eyes for details. Apparently you did not read my post carefully.

Do have a nice day!.

AjanleKoko: Probably longer than you.
I graduated well before the time of certifications and 'self-development' wink
So what is your point really? - I am still lost.

UK is a very large country. many people will have different opinion to your question . I like portsmouth - its fairly ok but im not sure of jobs (well depends on your profession though ) .The only advice ill give is stay somewhere close to London at "most" 2 hours from London. Rent in these area would be about £700 - £850/month for a 2 bed flat. (since you have a family) excluding other bills of course.

My uncle is a friend to d md so i was asked to start work immediately and was given an app letter. 10% is quiet small but i wouldn't mind. Bt i would wish it were anything above 10%

My question is this i work with a firm here in lagos i'm 6month old in the job, after 1year,i'll go back to abuja cos thats where am based.and that was d agreement being their HQ. The firm is runned by a lebanese who favours only a few workers.smppl hav been working for years with same salary they started with.i was evn confirmd without a salary increase.by jan i wil move bk to abj.pls hw do i ask 4an increase in salary without incuring d wrath of the MD knwing that the cost of living in abuja is high and we dnt hv a staff bus there bt we do here in lagos. FYI d human resource is jst a figure head who cn do nothing.the lebanese MD has the final say.thank u
OK... You have few questions to answer .

1. What is your role there? are you a trainee? or please specify
2. Can you consider you self despensible at your current work place?
3. How much increase are you idealy looking for ? 10% or your current renumeration? or 6% etc.

The above questions will help us advice you futher.

Cheers.!

AjanleKoko: You need to graduate first bro wink
With all Due respect , I dont think that is a correct advice (personal opionion though). Because with the current unemployment status in Nigeria - You might need to fully equip your self before graduating.

I was looking at a graduate role the other day : and the requirements were enomous . So my advice is - get as much certification/Training you can get before graduating.

Cheers

I agree with @mikkybrick everything struck on the head!

Just to add a little , i think the internet data speed and Rate in Nigeria is killing the full adoption of cloud technology. I like to think of the internet as the backbone of cloud technology - In fact cloud is internet .

@mikkybrick i remeber you were studying Netapp storage sometime ago , how's your progress or did you digress?

curiouses: Kindly Help review this (the attachment). It's my first attempt. I did it myself following what I read online. And if you can, kindly help with a sample.
CV Review, - Firstly you have to look at your Font size. The normal acceptable font size for CVs is between 10 and 12. I think 17 is just too big.
Secondly, looking at your objective , I could really get a gaps of what kind of trainee role you are looking for . There are numerous trainee jobs – Catering , Driver , IT, Nurse Etc – what kinda of trainee role are you looking for?
Third: In your CV “Education” section,, you said you have B.Engr University of Illorin 2014 – without telling the reader what you studied in the university. Did you do fine ART? Or Geography Education?
