As you gear up with jingles and holly, it’s important to keep your home and workplace a safe and fire-free environment. Here are few tips on how to avoid fire outbreak this holiday season. Don’t overload electrical outlets Electrical fires are common in office spaces that have larger equipment (like copiers, many computers, etc.). While it’s alright to be festive for the season, mind how many cords are leading to each socket and calculate the wattage from the outlet or extension cord. Use non-flammable decorations During this festive period, you would want to decorate your home or office to get in the holiday season spirit. Make use of non-flammable decorations because if a fire were to occur, this will minimize the amount of flammable items such as wreaths, garland, etc. Check lights and decorations for frayed wires Frayed wires could catch fire easily and spread throughout the strand of lights quickly. As a general room, you should also only link a maximum of three strands of lights together. Never open presents near a lit fireplace Wrapping paper is extremely flammable and can ignite suddenly and cause a flash fire. Some types of wrapping paper also contain material that can produce sparks or create a dangerous chemical build up in the air of your house. Turn off all lights each night and every weekend Be sure to turn any holiday light off when you go out for the evening or when you go to bed. Try using an outdoor timer to switch lights on and off. Never leave holiday lights on for extended unattended periods of time. Merry Christmas in advance from us at 24buzzng. Enjoy the season. Skin cancers are cancers that arise from the skin. They are due to the development of abnormal cells that have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Ultraviolet radiation from sun exposure is the primary environmental cause of skin cancer. Here are 5 tips to prevent skin cancer 1. Wear sunblock Just because it’s cloudy doesn’t mean you should ditch the sunscreen. Sunscreen should be applied every 20 minutes during exercises or in the water. Dermatologists recommend a broad spectrum water-resistant with both UVA and UVB protection and an SPF of at least 30. 2. Never sunbathe Sunbathing is bad because ultraviolet rays are harmful to the DNA of the cells in the skin. When those cells gets damaged, it leads to signs of aging and then skin cancer. When you are at the beach , reapply a water-resistant broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every two to three hours and seek shade as much as possible. 3. Avoid tanning beds The radiation from tanning beds is sometimes stronger than radiation from the sun. This can cause skin cell mutations. Once the cells are mutated, they continue to grow into tumors that are cancerous. 4. Wear protective clothes Choosing a cloth with UPF label on means that it is fashionable as well as functional, with light breathable fabrics. You can often find UPF labels on long-sleeved shirts, pants and wide brimmed hats. 5. Check yourself If you have a history of extensive sun exposure, lighter skin pigmentation and a family or personal history of skin cancer, you should check your skin once per month. If you are in a lower risk category, then three months or so is fine. If you notice any bleeding, burning ,itching, or a non healing sore, you should see a dermatologist.
