This is the latest Police Report coming from the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos State, Nigeria. It contains only the achievements of the RRS, with each of the cases specified, and their frequencies included.

In the month of November, 2017, there were six(6) Foiled Robberies, one(1) Robbery Incident, five(5) Accident Victims rescued, eight( Fire Outbreaks, nine(9) Civil Disturbances likely to cause breach of peace, one(1) Rescue Mission, and one(1) Shooting Incident. Giving a total of 31 recorded achievements for the RRS.

It’s a little surprising that there was only one Rescue Mission as I would think that many kidnappers would arise in these “Ember” months. Nonetheless, it is good to see that Lagos is becoming quite safer than what it was years back.

Even though these reports could cause us to relax, I say never! Be on alert always, and remember that there is no such thing as being too cautious when it comes to saving lives!

The name of our darling country Nigeria has again been mentioned in connection with a globally critised act, the slave trade in Libya.

According to a Cameroonian returnee, Foka Fotsi, the slave trade is being carried out by many nationalities, and this includes Nigerians and Ghanaians.

Foka Fotsi, who was abducted in his country, told Reuters he was trafficked twice. He went on to reveal that those in charge of one of the places where he was held included Ghanaians and Nigerians.

Fotsi’s story corroborated another testimony by a Nigerian in the southern state of Edo, who identified one Charles, a Nigerian as the trafficking kingpin.

Unable to find work to support his family, Fotsi decided to leave Cameroon last year, but fell into the hands of a Libyan kidnap ring before reaching Europe.

It’s the era of ‘matured’ musicians venting their anger(s) on successful new breeds who didn’t turn back to return the favours they got a while they were struggling to make it in the music industry.

The ‘Kaba Kaba’ singer, Konga said he ‘gave’ Wande Coal to Don Jazzy and D’Banj during the era of Mo’Hits records because he knew he (Wande) could make it better in Mo’Hits than being with him as a backup singer that he didn’t need back then.

“I thought of making Wande Coal my backup artiste but I felt he will shine more with Mohits that’s why I introduced him to Don Jazzy and D’Banj,” Konga said in a new interview with Goldmyne TV.

Critics in recent times have called for the scrap (their own words); National Youth Corps to be cancelled.

Why? Because to them, it has outlived its purpose and has become a waste of national funds. However, some Nigerians are still of the opinion that the scheme should continue for the purpose of bringing Nigerian youths together as many of them have encountered people and places that have changed their lives for the better.

This brings us to the crux of the matter at hand. Apart from going through all the vigorous activities that is; from the 2 week long camping to acquiring the discharge certificate, there is one more amazing reason for many Nigerian Youths to look forward to the one year programme.
Surprisingly, apart from the “Owambe” parties, office environment, hang out and so on, NYSC its another perfect opportunity for the young to meet Mr and Mrs right. Several photos of corp member proposing to their spouse at just recent Passing Out Parade has given us cause to believe love can be found anywhere. Although several conversations, reactions and rants have been raised for and against it, its still refreshing and exciting that there are risk takers who would rather start their lives fully as young adults with marriage. Despite the odds, its still one more thing for the next generation of youth corpers to look forward to.

A serious incident happened this morning in the department of HOME SCIENCE, NUTRITION ND DIETETICS department in University of Nigeria, Nsukka Campus.

Charms and broken eggs was seen in the premises leading to the general office of the department. Palm frond was also seen tired around the entrance leading to offices and lecture rooms.
Lecturers and students were seen in the morning praying, casting and binding.

A note was seen under the charm saying “SINCE YOU PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO LEAVE US, U WILL DIE HERE WITH US”

Rumors going around says the charm was dropped by students because of the excessive failure rate meted on them by the lecturers of the department especially on the present graduating students in which there is less than 30 of them graduating out of a class of 80 students.

it was recorded dat in a recent released course, there was an alarming failure rate of up to 60 Fails out of a class of 80 students and these courses where written by final Years students.
Some people says the charm was dropped by overstay students who the department has refused to graduate, other news says it’s the third year students who the lecturers failed woefully.

Kevin Spacey has responded to allegations he made unwelcome sexual advances towards a 14-year-old actor, saying he did not remember the incident but if it did happen it was likely “deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour” for which he sincerely apologises.

The Star Trek: Discovery star Anthony Rapp has accused Spacey of traumatising him after a party in New York in 1986.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Rapp alleged that Spacey, then 26, invited him and a 17-year-old friend to a nightclub, despite both being visibly underage, during which they were entertained in the VIP area by Spacey.

Rapp said Spacey then followed up with an invitation to a party at his Manhattan apartment, which Rapp attended.

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES OFFERED PROVISIONAL ADMISSION FOR THE 2017/2018 ACADEMIC SESSION

Candidates offered provisional admission are required to adopt the following guidelines to regularize their acceptance of the offer:

Visit the University of Nigeria website (unn.edu.ng) or portal (unnportal.edu.ng), log in your JAMB Registration number to generate and download a Payment Invoice which contains a Remitta number, the invoice will enable you to make payment at any Commercial Bank.
With the Payment Invoice, the candidate is requested to pay Twenty Five Thousand Naira Only (N25, 000.00) acceptance fee. Ensure that the Invoice number is keyed in appropriately at the Bank and obtain a confirmation slip containing your Confirmation number and Invoice number.
Visit the University of Nigeria website (unn.edu.ng) or portal (unnportal.edu.ng) again and login your JAMB Registration Number, the Confirmation Number and Invoice Number, then print the Admission slip and complete the Acceptance Form online.
Proceed with other fee payments and registration as indicated on the University of Nigeria website.

Some minutes ago, Facebook and Instagram were down. Thousands of users were complaining as they were unable to login into personal accounts.

Nearly 4,700 users reported facing issues with Facebook — with 44 percent experiencing a total blackout, 38 percent saying they are unable to login and 17 percent reporting they cannot access the Facebook app, according to downdetector.com.

More than 1,000 people reported issues with Instagram — with 59 percent unable to see their newsfeed, 21 percent unable to login and 18 percent unable to access its website.

24buzzng recently got the news on the outbreak of Monkey pox in Bayelsa and decided to do a research on what this Monkeypox is and How to Prevent it.

Monkeypox is a rare viral zoonosis (a virus transmitted to humans from animals) with symptoms in humans similar to those seen in the past in smallpox patients, although less severe. Smallpox was eradicated in 1980.However, monkeypox still occurs sporadically in some parts of Africa.

Monkeypox is a member of the Orthopoxvirus genus in the family Poxviridae.

The virus was first identified in the State Serum Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1958 during an investigation into a pox-like disease among monkeys.

Transmission

Infection of index cases results from direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or cutaneous or mucosal lesions of infected animals. In Africa human infections have been documented through the handling of infected monkeys, Gambian giant rats and squirrels, with rodents being the major reservoir of the virus. Eating inadequately cooked meat of infected animals is a possible risk factor.

Secondary, or human-to-human, transmission can result from close contact with infected respiratory tract secretions, skin lesions of an infected person or objects recently contaminated by patient fluids or lesion materials. Transmission occurs primarily via droplet respiratory particles usually requiring prolonged face-to-face contact, which puts household members of active cases at greater risk of infection. Transmission can also occur by inoculation or via the placenta (congenital monkeypox). There is no evidence, to date, that person-to-person transmission alone can sustain monkeypox infections in the human population.

Signs and symptoms

The incubation period (interval from infection to onset of symptoms) of monkeypox is usually from 6 to 16 days but can range from 5 to 21 days.

The infection can be divided into two periods:

the invasion period (0-5 days) characterized by fever, intense headache, lymphadenopathy (swelling of the lymph node), back pain, myalgia (muscle ache) and an intense asthenia (lack of energy);
the skin eruption period (within 1-3 days after appearance of fever) where the various stages of the rash appears, often beginning on the face and then spreading elsewhere on the body. The face (in 95% of cases), and palms of the hands and soles of the feet (75%) are most affected. Evolution of the rash from maculopapules (lesions with a flat bases) to vesicles (small fluid-filled blisters), pustules, followed by crusts occurs in approximately 10 days. Three weeks might be necessary before the complete disappearance of the crusts.Monkeypox is usually a self-limited disease with the symptoms lasting from 14 to 21 days. Severe cases occur more commonly among children and are related to the extent of virus exposure, patient health status and severity of complications.
People living in or near the forested areas may have indirect or low-level exposure to infected animals, possibly leading to subclinical (asymptomatic) infection.

The case fatality has varied widely between epidemics but has been less than 10% in documented events, mostly among young children. In general, younger age-groups appear to be more susceptible to monkeypox.

Diagnosis

The differential diagnoses that must be considered include other rash illnesses, such as, smallpox, chickenpox, measles, bacterial skin infections, scabies, syphilis, and medication-associated allergies. Lymphadenopathy during the prodromal stage of illness can be a clinical feature to distinguish it from smallpox.

Monkeypox can only be diagnosed definitively in the laboratory where the virus can be identified by a number of different tests:

enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
antigen detection tests
polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay
virus isolation by cell culture
Treatment and vaccine

There are no specific treatments or vaccines available for monkeypox infection, but outbreaks can be controlled. Vaccination against smallpox has been proven to be 85% effective in preventing monkeypox in the past but the vaccine is no longer available to the general public after it was discontinued following global smallpox eradication. Nevertheless, prior smallpox vaccination will likely result in a milder disease course.

Prevention

Preventing monkeypox expansion through restrictions on animal trade

Restricting or banning the movement of small African mammals and monkeys may be effective in slowing the expansion of the virus outside Africa.

Captive animals should not be inoculated against smallpox. Instead, potentially infected animals should be isolated from other animals and placed into immediate quarantine. Any animals that might have come into contact with an infected animal should be quarantined, handled with standard precautions and observed for monkeypox symptoms for 30 days.

Reducing the risk of infection in people

During human monkeypox outbreaks, close contact with other patients is the most significant risk factor for monkeypox virus infection. In the absence of specific treatment or vaccine, the only way to reduce infection in people is by raising awareness of the risk factors and educating people about the measures they can take to reduce exposure to the virus. Surveillance measures and rapid identification of new cases is critical for outbreak containment.
