PoliticsShekau Escapes As Faulty Ammunition Stalls Military Operation In Sambisa …boko H by meltech(op): 3:20pm On Jun 20, 2013
Faulty military Ammunition and a dysfunctional fighter Jet stalled Military Operation in Sambisa game reserve, a notorious headquarters of the Boko Haram sect, Pointblanknews.com has gathered.

The Special Forces deployed to Borno State by the Army allegedly failed to test run its air fighters and it ammunition, a security source said.

A senior security source who is angry over the lackadaisical attitude of the Maintenance Department of the Army saddled with the responsibility to ensure routine maintenance of war machinery made the revelation to Pointblanknews.com.

According to the source, the infantry who had already made advances towards the Sambisa camp were forced to retreat when the fighter Jet failed to carry out air strikes.

Consequently the Boko Haram sect took advantage of the Fighter Jet failure and faulty ammunition to launch anti air fire, which also forced the Special Forces air fighters to retreat. Members of the Special Forces also abandoned five Military Operational Vehicles.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that the military top hierarchy had made frantic efforts to cover up their set back until it was revealed by the top security official.

“As we speak, some reinforced forces are on their way to Sambisa as well as parts of Gwoza hill to combat the boko haram terrorist”

More worrisome to the security officer was the failure of the forces to capture the most wanted leader of dreaded Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau who was said to have escaped with military uniform and vehicles and currently hidden in a secluded area around the Gwoza hill. Although some security officials says Shekau may have escaped to a secluded area around Taraba state.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that the security forces have moved to surround the suspected abode of the sect leader in Taraba state while other Boko Haram militants are said to be heavily armed and had vowed to resist military invasion into the Sambisa camp.

” This was the main reason why the Special Forces failed to convey local and foreign journalists to the Sambisa camp instead they (journalists) were taken to lesser camps in Kirenoa, Marte local government area of Borno State,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the JTF have today ordered the ban of thuraya satellite phones and accessories in Maiduguri.

Spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Sagir Musa said in a statement sent to reporters in Maiduguri that” anyone found with thuraya or its accessories will be arrested”

” The attention of the Joint Task Force (JTF) has been drawn to the use of Thuraya phones by Boko Haram Terrorists to coordinate their recent assassination of civilians especially school children and some Imams.

” Therefore, effective from 19 June 19 June 2013 , the JTF impose a ban on the use and sale of Thuraya phones and accessories including Thuraya recharge cards in Borno State.

” Anyone seen with thuraya phones, recharge cards and accessories will be arrested”.

PoliticsAnti-Amaechi Protests In Port Harcourt - Picture by meltech(op): 3:01pm On May 22, 2013
The political crisis rocking Rivers State,south/south Nigeria, took a turn for the worse on Wednesday, with thousands of youths under the auspices of the Rivers Peoples Assembly, a mass civil society movement, took to the streets of Port Harcourt ,the state capital demanding the resignation of Governor Chibuike Amaechi.
Security was unusualy tight around the Government House in the old GRA area of Port Harcourt as Anti-Terror Squad of the Nigeria Police with several Armoured Personnel Carriers deployed to ensure that the anti-Amaechi protesters do not cause a breach of the peace or attempt to enter the Government House.
The protesters ,most of whom are wearing T-shirts with anti-Amaechi slogans also carried banners and placards calling on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to probe all financial dealings in the state under Amaechi’s watch.

One female protester told reporters365 that she wants to know the true story behind the state’s two aircrafts the Dr. Peter Odili Administration left behind. She also wants Amaechi to clear the puzzle surrounding the registration of the state aircraft which Aviation authorities say illegal.
Meanwhile , reports reaching reporters365 indicate that Governor Amaechi’s supporters are planning a counter protest to show
that he is as unpopular as he is being made to appear.

PoliticsFG Bans Governor Amaechi’s Aircraft From Flying Innigeria by meltech(op): 6:09pm On Apr 28, 2013
April 28, 2013 - 04:21 — siteadmin
By Nnenna Ibeh
The Federal Government on Saturday intensified
its attack on the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi
Amaechi, with the National Civil Aviation
Authority, NCAA, banning the Rivers State-owned
bombardier aircraft from flying in Nigeria’s
airspace again.
Mr. Amaechi has been having a running battle
with the presidency over his stance on major
national issues and his plane was on Friday
temporarily prevented from leaving the Akure
Airport. A spokesperson for the Federal Airports
Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, later told PREMIUM
TIMES the plane was blocked from taking off
because the pilot failed to declare the flight
manifest.
But at a press conference in Lagos Saturday, the
Acting Director General of the NCAA, Benedict
Adeyinka, the Director of Airworthiness and
Standards, announced the suspension of the
plane from Nigeria’s airspace, saying its
clearance certificate had since expired.
“The controversial aircraft on the service of
Governor Rotimi Amaechi is operating illegally in
the country” Mr Adeyinka said. “The aircraft, a
bombardier –BD700, global express with
registration no N565 RS has its clearance
approval expired since Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013.”
He continued, “By our records, the last flight
clearance for this aircraft was approved for
operation on Thursday, March 28, 2013 on Accra-
PH –Accra and to terminate on April 2, 2013. With
this development, the aircraft has exceeded the
extra two days or 48 hours leeway for it to leave
the country.”
The NCAA official further noted that “while still
operating illegally, the aircraft has been sighted in
several places including Owerri and Akure.”
“The owner of this aircraft according to the
certificate of registration is Bank of Utah, trustee
of Salt Lake City, Utah USA. The clearance for the
aircraft was sought by Caverton Helicopters on
March 27, 2013. Consequently, this aircraft in
reference is hereby grounded at any airport that
is located right now in the country.”
The presidency and the top brass of the Peoples
Democratic Party had of late become
uncomfortable with Mr. Amaechi who is believed
to be leading a massive opposition against
Chairman Bamanga Tukur and President
Goodluck Jonathan. He is also accused of using
his post to strategically position himself as vice-
presidential candidate of the party in the coming
presidential election.
In late February, the ruling party formed the PDP
Governors’ Forum, led by Governor Godswill
Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, in what analysts see as a
last gasp effort by Mr. Jonathan and Mr. Tukur to
dilute the perceived growing political influence of
Mr. Amaechi, who was elected chairman of the
Nigeria Governor’s Forum in June 2011 for an
initial two-year term.
The Grounding of Rivers State Aircraft: My
Story —- Governor Amaechi
Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers has
spoken out about the circumstances
surrounding Friday’s grounding of the state-
owned aircraft by the National Airspace
Management Agency.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary,
David Iyofor, the governor, in a statement,
described the entire saga as shameful and
ludicrous.
Read the entire statement below.
We had set out from Abuja in the morning of
Friday April 26, 2013 to Imo State to attend
the funeral rites of the younger sister of the
Deputy Speaker of the House of
Representatives Hon. Emeka Ihedioha. Our
plane, a Bombardier jet owned by the Rivers
State Government, landed at the airport in
Owerri. It was in Owerri that the pilot of our
plane was first tipped off that there is a plot
to ground our plane in Owerri that Friday.
Fortunately for us, we took off from Owerri
airport and arrived at Akure airport en-route
to Ekiti for the burial of the Deputy Governor
of Ekiti State Funmilayo Olayinka without
any incident. On the flight to Akure was the
Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt.
Hon. Aminu Tambuwal who we met in Imo
State and was also heading to Ekiti for the
burial of Mrs Olayinka. Also on the flight
were the Governor of Rivers State Rt. Hon,
Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the Director-
General, Nigeria Governors’ Forum(NGF),
Asishana Bayo Okauru, Kalabari prince and
politician Prince Tonye Princewill, some
aides of the Governor and me.
Once our party left the Akure airport for
Ekiti, our pilot went to the airport offices to
make statutory airport payments and fees,
file his flight plan and declare his manifest.
After filing his fight plan and declaring his
manifest, our pilot was told to go and see the
Controller. The Controller bluntly told him
that the Rivers Government plane would not
be allowed to leave the airport. In other
words, the plane had been grounded! He
said that the plane should have been
grounded in Owerri. The Controller on duty
at the airport in Akure mentioned some
vague issues relating to the customs papers
of the plane, which has been flying in Nigeria
for many months? That didn’t make any
sense to the pilot. He enquired on whose
orders the plane was being grounded, he
was told that it was the Managing Director
of the Nigerian Airspace Management
Authority (NAMA). And that he should reach
the NAMA MD.
By the time our party, which now included
four House of Representatives Honourable
members- Mohammed Sani Idris Kutigi,
Daniel Rayeineju, Idris Ahmed Wase and
Ifedayo Abegunde- returned to the Akure
airport, there was confusion everywhere.
Speaker Tambuwal, the Honourable
members and Governor Amaechi and his
team, were all stranded at the airport. The
plane that brought Speaker Tambuwal and
Governor Amaechi to Akure could not leave
Akure airport. Calls were being made as
these two democratically elected leaders,
furious and perplexed, tried to fathom what
could have caused this monumental
embarrassment to them and their offices.
After trying fruitlessly for some time to get
the plane released, Speaker Tambuwal then
offered to fly Governor Amaechi to Port
Harcourt with the plane(another small
aircraft) that brought the other four
Honourable members to Akure. To
accommodate Governor Amaechi in the small
aircraft, one of the House of Representatives
members offered his seat to the Governor .
The pilot of the Rivers State Government
plane was already locking up the aircraft for
us to leave for Lagos by road when a call
eventually came through that the plane
could now leave. The Controller received a
directive to allow the plane fly out of Akure.
The decision to let us go, we later learnt,
was due to the pressure brought on the
aviation authorities by Speaker Tambuwal.
It is indeed most shameful and ludicrous
that NAMA and the Aviation authorities are
now saying that they grounded the Rivers
State Government plane because the pilot
did not file a flight plan and declare a
manifest. That’s a blatant lie. A big fat one
at that. The pilot filed the flight plan and
manifest, and paid all the statutory airport
fees and charges shortly after the plane
arrived at the Akure airport in the afternoon.
If the pilot filed a flight plan and manifest at
the airports in Abuja and Owerri, where he
flew from same day, why won’t he then do
the same in Akure? It is instructive to note
that all through the traumatic time we spent
in Akure, no official of the airport or aviation
staff came to tell Governor Amaechi that we
were grounded because our pilot “refused to
file a flight plan and manifest.” All they kept
saying was that they were just obeying
directives, it was beyond them and we
should call Abuja. Speaker Tambuwal and
the other four members of the House of
Representatives are living witnesses to that
charade.
NAMA and the aviation authorities should
explain to Nigerians why an aircraft owned
by a State government, that flew the
Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Hon. Aminu Tambuwal and a democratically
elected Governor of a State who also is the
chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum,
would be grounded at an airport for no just
cause?

PoliticsNigerian Gunmen 'kill Mubi Students' by meltech(op): 1:50pm On Oct 02, 2012
At least 20 people,
mostly students, have
been killed by
unknown gunmen in
Mubi, north-eastern
Nigeria, a police
source has told the
BBC.
The attack happened at a student hostel away from
the Federal Polytechnic Mubi campus, the source
said.
A lecturer told the BBC that more than 40 students
had been killed but there has been no official
comment.
The reported killing comes days after a major
operation against the Boko Haram militant group in
the town.
The lecturer, who did not want his name to be used,
told the BBC's Hausa service that men in military
uniform asked the students to line up and then say
their names.
Some were then shot dead and others stabbed with
knives, and their bodies left in lines outside the
buildings.
The lecturer says it is not clear why some were killed
and others spared - some of those killed were
Muslims and other Christian.
"Everybody is scared," he said.
He added that students were now leaving the town,
many with tree branches over their cars - a
traditional sign of neutrality in Nigeria.
Other Mubi residents say they heard gunfire for
about two hours during the night and that those
living near the hostel were also targeted.
The authorities have imposed an indefinite curfew in
the town and ordered residents to stay indoors.
Mobile phone masts attacked
Last week, the Nigerian military carried out an
operation in Mubi and arrested dozens of people over
suspected links to Boko Haram.
BBC Nigeria correspondent Will Ross says mobile
phone masts in the area were recently attacked by
the militants, so getting information from Mubi is
difficult, and even the emergency services are
struggling to communicate with their staff on the
ground.
Mubi is in Adamawa state, which has a mixed Muslim
and Christian population and borders Borno state,
where Boko Haram came to prominence in 2009,
staging an uprising in the state capital, Maiduguri.
Boko Haram has not yet commented on the Mubi
attacks.
It is fighting to establish Islamic law in Nigeria and
has killed more than 1,000 people in numerous
attacks across northern and central areas this year.

The Nigeria Army says it has killed some
suspected members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah
Liddawati WalJihad, also known as Boko Haram,
in Zaria.
Several people, including a woman, were
arrested during the operation and the troops
seized and destroyed a building which was
heavily loaded with explosives and the storage of
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
A statement signed by the Army Public Relations
Officer, Captain Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the
gunfight took place in the early hours of today
when the militants engaged troops and the State
Security Service (SSS) in a fierce fun battle in
Gaskiya Layout, Tukur-Tukur, Zaria.
Captain Abdullahi said the engagement followed
a tipoff that Boko Haram was planning a major
suicide mission in Zaria, Kaduna and Suleija to
coincide with this week’s Independence
anniversary celebrations. A joint operation was
then launched on a residential building in Gaskiya
layout to flush out the terrorists.
The statement did not say whether any innocent
people were killed, or whether the militants were
the only residents of the building.
Captain Abdullahi said the IEDs were intended
for the various operations the sect was to carry
out, and to inflict maximum casualty on army
troops.
“As a result, a controlled detonation was carried
out by Army Engineers so as to save other law
abiding residents of the area and to stop further
planning and execution of the nefarious,
destructive, criminal and deadly activities of the
Sect,” the statement said.
Investigations will determine the extent of the
involvement of the individuals who were arrested
during the operation.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency
Management Agency (NEMA) said two people
were killed in the operation and another
bystander was injured.

PoliticsWe Bombed Jos Church - Boko Haram by meltech(op): 3:36am On Feb 27, 2012
The leadership of the Jama'atu Ahlis
Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad, widely
known as Boko Haram, has claimed
responsibility for today’s suicide
bombing of COCIN Church
headquarters in Jos, Plateau State.
Its purported spokesperson, Abul
‘Qaqa,’ told journalists in a telephone
conference that they carried out the
attack in Jos, and were also
responsible for the burning of a public
primary school in Maiduguri, in
retaliation for the invasion of Islamic
schools.
The sect said, “We are responsible
and it will continue, we must revenge
killings of Muslims in Plateau State.
Anybody that stands on our way must
lower six feet to the ground. Our
attacks have no distinction on any
person, be him Muslim or infidel.
For as long as they stand against us
and our cause, their blood is
legitimate to be shed. More of this will
come beyond imagination."
Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor,
Jonah Jang, has directed thorough
protection for churches and mosques
in the state.
The governor disclosed this following
his visit to the scene of today’s
bombing scene and. He also visited
the victims at the hospital.
Jang said, “We are doing everything
to make sure that churches and
mosques are protected from these
attacks, the security offices and major
buildings are also being protected. I
urge that we should all calm down and
remain law-abiding; people should not
take the laws into their hands, we
should allow the security personnel to
handle the situation.”
He also cautioned against rioting,
saying, “It will not help anybody if we
start rioting. In any case, who shall we
riot against? These are the people
that the security should be able to

PoliticsArmy Arrests 4 Boko Haram Bombers In Kano: by meltech(op): 11:13pm On Feb 22, 2012
Sounds of bomb blasts and several
gun shots scared residents of
Tinshama in Otoro, Taurani Local
Government Area of Kano State,
Northwest Nigeria, this morning.
The crossfire started at about 5 a.m.
and lasted till about 6.30 a.m. this
morning.
According to one of the residents,
“We woke up this morning disturbed
by sounds like bombshell which
sounded for about five times. They
were followed with several gun shots.
“As I talk to you now, most residents
including myself have fled the area,”
a resident who refused to disclose his
name told our correspondent.
A military source later told the AFP
that the militants had thrown
explosives and fired at a Nigerian
military checkpoint on Wednesday,
igniting the gunbattle, the
reverbrations which were heard all
over the city, where attacks in
January killed 185.
“Our checkpoint …came under attack
this morning by gunmen believed to
be members of Boko Haram,” a
military source told AFP.
“The soldiers repelled the attack and
arrested four suspects” in the wake of
the dawn assault that shook the
northern city still trying to recover
from the January 20 deadly bomb-
and-gun assault.
Kano State military spokesman Iweha
Ikedichi confirmed the arrest of “four
suspected members of Boko Haram”
in the Tinshama area of the city but
refused to give further details.
Security forces cordoned off the area
for several hours after the attack.
Soldiers later drove around the
neighbourhood shooting into the air
and arrested the four suspects.
The country’s emergency agency
NEMA said there were no casualties.
An AFP correspondent heard at least
six explosions followed by gunshots,
just before the Muslim dawn prayers.
The Islamic sect staged coordinated
gun and bomb assaults in Kano on
January 20, killing at least 185 people
in what was the deadliest of a string
of recent assaults in northern Nigeria.
There have since been several smaller
attacks in the city.
Yet, there were conflicting reports
about the incident at Tinshama this
morning as at the time of filing this
report.
A version of the report said the JTF
raided a Boko Haram hideout within
the area which resulted in a bloody
gun fight.
The casualties during the gun fight
could not be ascertained by
P.M.NEWS as at press time.
An AFP correspondent also claimed to
have heard at least six huge
explosions followed by gun shots, just
before Muslim dawn prayers, which
continued for around an hour.
Tinshama is also close to the low
income suburb of Badawa, which also
home to both Christians and Muslims.
“The whole area has been cordoned
off by armed soldiers and policemen.
All we hear is that a house suspected
to be a Boko Haram hideout was
raided by security agents,” said
Badawa resident Bala Haruna.
In January, Boko Haram staged
coordinated gun and bomb assaults in
Kano, killing at least 185 people in
what was the group’s deadliest ever
strike.
There have since been several smaller
attacks in the city.
