Types of gigantomastia

Gigantomastia can be divided into several subtypes. The subtypes are related to the event that may have triggered the condition.

Types of gigantomastia include:

Gestational or pregnancy-induced gigantomastia occurs during pregnancy. This subtype is thought to be triggered by pregnancy hormones, usually during the first trimester. It occurs in just in 1 out of 100,000 pregnancies.

Puberty-induced or juvenile gigantomastia occurs during adolescence (between the ages of 11 and 19), likely because of sex hormones.
Medication- or drug-induced gigantomastia occurs after taking certain medications. Most commonly, it's caused by a drug known as D-penicillamine,

idiopathic gigantomastia occurs spontaneously, with no obvious cause. This is the most common type

What causes it?

The exact mechanism by which gigantomastia occurs in the body isn't well understood. Genetics and an increased sensitivity to female hormones, like prolactin or estrogen, are thought to play a role. For some women, gigantomastia happens spontaneously without an obvious cause.

Gigantomastia has been associated with:

pregnancy
puberty
including medications such as
bucillamine
neothetazone

certain autoimmune conditions also such as:
Hashimoto's thyroiditis
chronic arthritis
psoriasis

Gigantomastia or Macromastia is a rare condition that causes excessive growth of the female breasts. Only a 100 cases have been reported in the medical literature..

The exact cause of gigantomastia isn't known. The condition can occur randomly, but it has also been seen to occur during puberty, pregnancy, or after taking certain medications. It does not occur in men though.

The breast growth can occur over the course of a few years, but there have been some cases of gigantomastia where a woman's breasts grew three or more cup sizes within a few days. Other symptoms include breast pain, posture problems, infections, and back pain.

While gigantomastia is considered a benign (noncancerous) condition, it can be physically disabling if not treated. In some cases, the condition resolves on its own, but many women with gigantomastia will need to have breast reduction surgery

What are the symptoms?

The main symptom of gigantomastia is an excessive overgrowth of breast tissue in one breast (unilateral) or both breasts (bilateral). The growth may occur slowly over a period of a few years. In some women, the breast growth occurs rapidly over the course of just a few days or weeks.

There is no universally accepted definition for the amount of growth. Many researchers define gigantomastia as a breast enlargement that requires reduction of 1,000 to 2,000 grams per breast.

Other symptoms of gigantomastia include:
breast pain (mastalgia)
pain in the shoulders, back, and neck
redness, itchiness, and warmth on or underneath the breasts
poor posture
loss of nipple sensation
infections or abscess
The pain and posture problems are usually caused by the excess weight of the breasts.

Women are sharing pictures of their underwear on social media in protest after a teenage girl’s thong was used as evidence against her in a rape case.

The hashtag #ThisIsNotConsent trended on Twitter after the 27-year-old suspect was acquitted of rape by an Irish court last week.
The 17-year-old girl’s “thong with a lace front” was presented as part of the defence’s closing address.

In her closing address to the jury, Elizabeth O’Connell SC told jurors they should consider the underwear the girl wore on the night of the alleged rape, the Irish Examiner reported.

She told the Central Criminal Court in Cork: “Does the evidence out-rule the possibility that she was attracted to the defendant and was open to meeting someone and being with someone?
“You have to look at the way she was dressed.

She was wearing a thong with a lace front.”
Noeline Blackwell, the head of Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, said she was not surprised that the teenager’s underwear was the focus for the defence.

She told The Independent: “The reference to the girl’s underwear and the assumption and inference that the jury was being invited to draw – that because she was dressed like that she was asking for sex – does not surprise us.
“We accompany people to court and the whole time we see rape stereotypes used to discredit complainants and to enforce elements of the defendant’s case.”

The barrister’s comments sparked a furious backlash on social media.
Under the hashtag #ThisIsNotConsent, women shared pictures of their own underwear in support of the girl and protest at ‘victim blaming’.

Some aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State on Saturday affirmed the Senate Minority Leader, Chief Abiodun Olujinmi, as the leader of the party in the state.

Governor Ayodele Fayose had been the leader of the party in the state.

The members who met under the PDP Stakeholders Forum in Ado Ekiti also asked the National Executive Committee to dissolve the Gboyega Oguntuase-led State Working Committee, which is loyal to former Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Among those at the meeting were Olujimi, a former Deputy Governor, Dr. Sikiru Tae-Lawal; a former Speaker and Acting Governor, Tunji Odeyemi; incumbent Deputy Speaker, Segun Adewumi; a former chairman, Bola Oluojo; a former PDP Secretary, Dr. Tope Aluko and a former governorship aspirant, Yinka Akerele.

Our correspondent observed that the PDP’s secretariat on Ajilosun Road, Ado Ekiti, remained shut on Saturday with armed policemen stationed on guard.

Aluko had invaded the place on Thursday with some other aggrieved members to accuse the state executive members of making suspicious withdrawals from the party’s account.

But the police quickly moved in to secure the place and were still on the ground on Saturday.

A communique read after the meeting by the Protem Secretary of the stakeholders’ forum and former member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Bunmi Olugbade, said Olujimi as the highest ranking officer in PDP from Ekiti State was adopted as the party leader.

It also called on the party leadership to constitute an independent committee to look into affairs of the party.

The forum while commending Aluko in discovering and detecting the illegal and suspicious withdrawals by the SWC urged Olujimi to liaise with the National Executive Committee of the PDP to freeze the state account of the party.

The communiqué overruled the SWC on the suspension of Aluko, saying he remained a bonafide member of the party.

It read in part, “We are poised to reposition and return the PDP back to the people and therefore call on the party leadership to constitute an independent committee to look into the affairs of the party in Ekiti state with a view to repositioning the party for the 2019 elections.

“That there is an urgent need for reconciliation and the panacea for true reconciliation is the immediate dissolution of the present state working committee of the PDP and a constitution of caretaker committee.

“That Senator Olujimi should constitute Advisory committee in all the 16 local governments to midwife reconciliation and also Finance to strategise and mobilise funds for the party.

“That we appeal to our members who are aggrieved or sitting on the fence to come back to the party. Again, we stand by our party national exco, our presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, the various candidates in Ekiti State and promise to vote for them substantially”, it added.

When I say servicing debt, I am not referring to repaying the debt. I am saying that ₦1.8 trillion was used to pay the INTEREST on the debt. The PRINCIPAL is not even being touched. It is your children and grandchildren that Buhari wants to pay his debts.

Now tell me how we can pay this huge interest and still manage to repay the loan capital in this generation?
