Five Premier League clubs have at least one player in contention for the 2023 award

Twelve current Premier League players, along with Harry Kane and Ilkay Gundogan, have been nominated for the 2023 Ballon d'Or.

In total, five Premier League clubs have at least one player up for the award, after the 30-man shortlist was revealed on Wednesday.

Manchester City lead the way with seven nominees, Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Julian Alvarez, Rodri, Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.
Arsenal pair Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard are also on the shortlist, along with Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah, Man Utd's Andre Onana and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Those nominees will be seeking to become only the third Premier League player to win the award, after Liverpool's Michael Owen in 2001 and Cristiano Ronaldo for Man Utd in 2008.

Onana and Martinez are also up for the prestigious Yashin Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper, along with two other Premier League players, Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale and Man City star Ederson.

Liverpool have a decision to make over the future of Mohamed Salah, amid interest from Saudi Arabian giants Al Ittihad, but have already found a replacement, according to the Daily Express.



Salah, 31, was the subject of a £150 million offer from the Saudi Arabian club last Friday. However, Sky reports that with the Saudi transfer window set to close on Sept. 7, Al Ittihad are reportedly preparing to offer the Premier League side £200m.



Following Sunday's 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, in which the 31-year-old forward scored his 188th goal for the club, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he was confident that Salah would remain at Anfield.

Tribunal dismisses election petition against Kogi West’s Senator Karimi

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja has upheld the election of Senator Sunday Karimi, the lawmaker representing Kogi West senatorial district in the National Assembly.

In its ruling, the tribunal affirmed the election of Senator Karimi and dismissed the petition of the petitioner in its entirety for lacking merit and being completely baseless after examining the petition before it.

The tribunal said it found that the majority of lawful votes cast belonged to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Karimi in the said election, and consequently ordered the plaintiff, T.J. Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to pay a fine of N150,000 to the respondents.

DAILY POST recalls that Yusuf had petitioned the tribunal on the ground of non-usage of the BVAS machine in some areas, accusing the ruling APC of rigging the 2023 senatorial election in Kogi West.

The 2023/24 Champions League group stage draw will take place on Thursday, August 31, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. The draw will take place at 5pm and will be streamed on UEFA.com.

There will be 32 teams in the draw, 26 of whom qualified for the group stage automatically and six play-off winners, whose identity will be confirmed on August 29 and 30.

Before the draw takes place, teams are then split into four seeding pots.

In pot 1 will be the holders (Man City), Europa League winners (Seville) and the domestic champions of England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France and Portugal. As Man City won the Champions League and Premier League, the final place in pot 1 was given to Feyenoord, the champions of the Netherlands.

It’s been nine years since I lost the love of my life. I met Debbie in college and we just instantly clicked. We got married a little over a year after we graduated. A witness identified as Dayo Israel has told the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal headed by Justice Arum Ashom, that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Ibijoke were allowed to cast their votes with invalid voter cards.

Dayo Isreal who was the Labour Party, LP, agent was summoned to testify in the petition filed by the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the March 18 2023 election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, to nullify the return of governor SanwoOlu.

While being led in evidence by the Rhodes-Vivour’s lead counsel, Olumide Ayeni SAN, Israel informed the court that he served as an agent for the Labour Party in Unit 006, Ward 15, Lagos Island Local Government in the election.

He said, ”I observed that the card reader showed their cards to be invalid but Sanwo-Olu and his wife were allowed to cast their votes and this is against INEC’s electoral process.” READ MORE

Some members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have said the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has no regard for former Governor Nyesom Wike’s political influence and called on him to join the APC and be their leader in the state.
