Politics › Re: Over 140m Nigerians May Become Poorer By December - PriceWaterhouseCoopers(PwC) by Mexyz(m): 5:55am On Jan 08 |
Kemetian: ACCORDING TO AI ChatGPT, PriceWaterhouseCoopers has often made mistakes and is UNRELIABLE for economic forecasts.
ACCORDING TO AI:
''....there have been public controversies or outcomes tied to PwC’s work:
📌 a. Audit and Assurance Controversies
PwC has faced fines and regulatory findings for audit shortfalls (e.g., inadequate audit work in some jurisdictions).
In Nigeria, controversial cases exist around forensic audits where PwC acknowledged limitations (e.g., limited access to data), leading observers to question the conclusions.''
✅ Yes, PwC forecasts have been questioned and sometimes proven inaccurate, especially long-term economic projections — but this is true of virtually all economic forecasters.
✅ PwC generally states its projections are based on models with assumptions, not guaranteed outcomes.
✅ Short-term forecasts may also miss actual outcomes due to unpredictable events.
Nigeria is unusually policy-sensitive
Nigeria’s economy can change direction very quickly due to policy shifts.
PwC could be wrong if, for example:
Fuel subsidy savings are actually redirected efficiently
FX reforms stabilize faster than expected
Local production substitutes imports more rapidly
Social intervention programmes scale properly
State governments outperform federal expectations
Nigeria is not a slow-moving OECD economy. It’s high-volatility, which makes short-term poverty forecasts especially fragile.
Nigeria’s informal economy distorts forecasts
Over 60% of Nigeria’s economy is informal.
Most models:
Handle formal wages well
Handle informal resilience badly
Historically, Nigerians:
Adjust consumption rapidly
Shift jobs and income streams
Create informal buffers during downturns
PwC models often underestimate adaptive behavior, which can blunt poverty outcomes relative to predictions.
Media headlines amplify the most pessimistic scenario
Guardian Nigeria (and most media) will highlight:
“PwC forecasts worsening poverty”
But PwC reports usually include:
Base case
Downside case
Upside case
The downside case is what becomes news.
So PwC might actually be saying:
“There is a significant risk of worsening poverty unless X, Y, Z happen.”
That nuance is lost in headlines.
Conclusion:
PwC’s forecast can be wrong because it is based on assumptions about policy continuity, inflation, and structural constraints — and Nigeria routinely violates those assumptions, sometimes for the better.
PwC models Nigeria as a system that behaves predictably. Nigeria rarely does.

Yeah, let's believe AI rather than real people who took out time to conduct their research taking note of all the economic policies and decisions of the present administration. drstranged: I can put it to you that the Tunisians were very very poor in this match, probably their worst performance in recent times. Go and watch their match against Uganda and their world cup qualifiers you'd understand. Yet despite how poor the Tunisians were on the night they still managed to score 2 goals against Nigeria, and could have even scored more but for their poor finishing. Yes there was significant improvement in Nigeria's performance compared to the world cup qualifiers (no one is doubting that) but the point is that they have no defence and goal keeper. No matter how good the strikers perform, they should pray they don't meet a more clinical side that would tear that defence to shreds. Tunisia should have easily won that game if they scored those chances they shamefully missed. We are both saying the same thing, Tunisia has been good but were very bad yesterday while SE has been performing poorly for a while now while they played very well yesterday, so this is just a case of two teams turning the tables when not expected. Tunisians would have won if they had converted their chances, yes and same can be said for the SE also because I know Victor missed many chances also same with the Ejuke guy. At the end of the day, the team that converted their chances won and that's what football is all about and not what would have happened(assumptions) |
