DAY 11: DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A CUSTOMER AND A END USER

I had so much work to be done, and God in His infinite mercy, made today's lesson to be a short one. So I learnt about the difference between a end user and a Customer.

A Customer is a person who purchases the product, while the end user is the person who directly uses/interacts with the product or services. Meaning that the end user is necessarily not the person who purchases the product while the customer is necessarily not the person who directly uses the product but a customer can also be a end user (e.g A person who bought biscuit for a boy to eat is just a customer, while the boy is a end user, but in the case that a person bought him/herself a biscuit for personal consumption, the person then becomes both a Customer and a end user).

Understanding the differences between the customer and the end user is important for business because it allows companies to tailor their marketing development efforts to the needs and preferences of each group.

It's Day 10!

Truth be told, it has not been a buttery smooth journey, but was it meant to be easy peasy? Not at all! So understanding that motivates me to move on with the learning, even when my eyes are so so so tired after long days at work.

So today, I learnt about the differences between a user and a end user.
A user is anyone that has access to the product during development stage while an end user are the people who use the product for it's intended purposes. e.g. A woman trying book an uber ride using a hailing app

ANDDD WE ARE IN COURSE 2!
So I finished the first course yesterday, and I passed the quiz at the end of the course in flying colors grin. Thank God!, so I proceeded to course 2 today, and the first lesson was about USER RESEARCH

I learnt that User research is usually conducted at the beginning of the design process and involves a variety of methods to gather information about the user.

There are different ways of conducting User research, the most popular ones are:
1. Survey: This is a common method of collating data about the users. Survey are like are selected questions directed at a set of people to inquire about demographics, behaviors, preferences and attitude. Survey can be administered online, in person or via email.

2. Interview: This method involves a meeting between the designer and a user which requires the user to elaborate on their answers to the questions asked, this helps the designer to understand user's needs, goals and behaviors

3. Observation: This involves observing the user interact with the product or similar ones. This can help provide insights into the user's behavior, preferences and pain points.

4. Focus groups: This involves gathering a group of users to discuss a product or a concept. Focus groups can provide insights into the user's
attitudes and opinions about the product.

5. Contextual inquiry: This involves observing users in their natural environment and how they use the product depending on or relating to the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea.

6. Card sorting: Asking users to organize content or features into categories to identify patterns and preferences. In a card sort, participants group ideas or information written on cards into different categories in a way that makes sense to them. You can use virtual cards, pieces of paper, or an online card sorting tool.

7. A/B testing: This simply means showing users two different versions of a design and see which work best for them. This is also called split testing.

8. Analytics: analyzing user data, such as website or app usage patterns to gain insights into user's behaviors. They help designers understand how users interact with the product, identify pain points and user delight features.

Day 8: Role of UI/UX design in product development.

I was meant to post this yesterday but you know how Sundays can be in Nigeria, from closing late at Church to having to do some cooking and doing some finishing up on some of the design gigs I have at hand but we move! So yesterday I learnt about the roles of UI UX design in product development.

UI UX design plays a very critical role in product development because it ensures that digital products are designed with users needs, preferences and goals in mind and not just the preferences of the designer or the business. The primary goals of UI/UX design is to create products that are usable, accessible and visually appealing.

We also learnt the keyways UI/UX design impact product development, which are:
1. User Engagement: Good UI/UX design is crucial for creating a digital product that is engaging for the users. This is achieved by creating a visually appealing interface, designers can encourage users to interact with the product and achieve their goals easily and effectively.

2. User Satisfaction: UI UX design ensures that users are satisfied with their experience when using the product, by designing products that are easy to use, intuitive, engaging and efficient thereby increasing the likelihood of recurring usage and referrals.

3. Competitive Advantage: Effective UI/UX design can help create a competitive edge over the competitors, this can achieved by creating products that are not just visually pleasing but also effective and easy to use. This way, companies can differentiate themselves from their competitors and increase their market share.

4. Product Adoption: UI/UX design can play a critical role in product adoption. This can be achieved by creating user friendly interface, designers can reduce the learning curve for new users, and encourage adoption of the product.

5. Iterative Design: UI/UX design ensures that the product is always evolving and adapting to meet needed changes and preferences because UI/UX design is a recurring process.

UI/UX design is an essential aspect of product development. By focusing on creating user-friendly, engaging and effective products, designers can increase user satisfaction, market share and overall success of the product.

As at this time of the night, I was battling between resting a little bit or going on with the learning.

Moving on,

Design: the design stage involves creating wireframes, prototypes and mockups based on the results/insights gained from the research and analysis stage. This stage is repetitive and involves feedback and testing from the users to refine the design.

Testing: this stage obviously involves testing the digital products with real users and collating insights and feedback on it's usability, effectiveness, and the overall level of satisfaction experienced from using the product. This helps identify the area for improvement

By following this process, designers can create products that are easy to use, engaging, effective and intuitive for the user.

Day 7

The electricity issue is still to be fixed but we moveeee! Today I learnt about User centered design process and understanding what it really means.

The User centered design process is a framework for creating digital products that emphasizes on the needs and goals of the user. This process involves understanding and grasping the user's behaviour, preferences and motivation and using that information to create a suitable and tailored design for the user.

We also learnt that the User centered design process involves the following stages.

Research: this stage involves collating data about the user, including their behaviour, preferences and needs. This can be achieved through User surveys, interview and usability tests. The goal of this stage is to deeply understanding the user and their context.

Analysis: This stage involves unifying the data collated in the research stage and identifying the patterns, themes and opportunities for improvement. This helps designers get a clear understanding of the user's needs and goals

We were also taught why these features are very important:

1. Consistency: Consistency in design helps create a sense of familiarity and helps users navigate the interface easily. Using the same visual and interactive elements throughout the interface helps in creating consistency in design.

2. Color: this can be used to create visually appealing designs and convey information. Choosing a colour scheme that is visually appealing and aligns with the brand identity is a sure way of create visually appealing designs

3. Typography: Typography can have a big impact on the overall look and feel of an interface. Using legible fonts and font sizes that are easy to read helps in creating visually appealing designs

4. White space: White space also known a negative space, refers to the space in between elements in a design. A good use of white space can help create a clean and uncluttered look and help draw attention to the important elements

5. Visual hierarchy: this refers to the arrangement of elements in design based on their importance. Use of visual cues, such as size, colour and placement to create a clear visual hierarchy and guide uses through the interface.

6. Images & Graphics: Images and Graphics can be used to convey information, create visual interest and establish the brand's identity.

7. User centered design: user centered design refers to designing with users needs, behaviour and goals.

8. Accessibility: Ensure the interface is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. Consider factors such as Color, contrast, font size and navigation

DAY 6 OF LEARNING UI UX DESIGN

It's sad times for the country, there is hike in price for almost everything! And that is more reason to learn and upskill yourself, because as humans we must be ready to adapt and in fact create solutions in every given circumstances.

So today I learnt about the best practices for creating visually appealing designs.

DAY 5 of learning UI UX design

So today, I learnt about the visual principles of UI UX design, these are guidelines that helps designers create visually appealing and effective designs.

The Main guidelines for Visual design:
1. Balance
2. Contrast
3. Hierarchy
4. Alignment
5. Colour
6. Typography
7. Repetition
8. Proximity

And for the definition of each visual guidelines;

> I understand balance in Visual design to be the way visual elements in a design are arranged and there are three types of balance in Visual design
1. Symmetrical
2. Asymmetrical
3. Radial.

> For contrast; this refers to the difference between elements in a design which can be achieved by creating variation in colour, shape, size,texture and other visual elements.

> Hierarchy refers to the arrangement of elements in a design based on their importance. A good arrangement of elements in design helps users navigate the design and understand the relationship between different elements

So I also learnt that there are principles that guides UI/UX designs.

Some of the key UI/UX design principles in my own way of defining them includes :
1. USER CENTERED DESIGN: This principle signifies designing for the user's goals, objectives and behaviours, rather that the preferences of the designer or the business.

2. CONSISTENCY: This principles emphasizes on the use of similar patterns, shapes, elements and interaction throughout the product which helps reduce confusion and cognitive load.

3. VISUAL HIERACHY: Visual hierachy is the use of visual cues, such as size, color and contrast to guide the user's attention and focus on the most important elements of the product.

4. SIMPLICITY: Simplicity in design means reducing complex and un-needed elements and interactions which helps users focus on the essential tasks and information.

5. FEEDBACK: Providing feedback to the user is essential for creating a positive user experience, feedback can be visual, auditory, haptic and it helps users understand the resulus of their actions and the state of the system.

6. ACCESSIBILITY: Accessibility means designing for users with disabilities and ensuring that the product is usable and understandable for all users. This principle is crucial for creating inclusive and ethical products that are accessible for everyone.

It's a busy time for we Graphic designers, which is the reason I didn't update this thread during the day, how are you guys doing?

So I learnt the definition of the different types of UX designs we have:
Information architecture designs: The design style features the arrangement of information in a clean and intuitive way which in turn helps users get accessibility to what they need easily.

Interaction design: This design style involves creating designs that converses with the user and makes users achieve their objectives in the most efficient way.

Visual design: This design styles is more about the visual aesthetics of the digital product which includes typography, color palettes and imagery.

User research: This involves gaining insights and studying user's behaviours, preferences and context.

Usability testing: This is all about testing the product or services with users to identify usability issues and opportunities for refinement.

Content strategy: This type of UX design involves creating strategy for the contents of the product.

Service design: This type of design involves designing the end to end experience of using the product or the services and other touchpoints.
This also means understanding the user needs and creating a digital solution round it.
