Born on this day January 31st 1960, Yemi Solade remains one of the best and freshest guys from the yore days of Yoruba movie industry. When you mention Ogogo, Kura, for Actions, you will remember Yemi Solade for being a lover boy role player, possibly to Opeyemi Aiyeola.. At a point in early 2000's I even thought they were dating, just like you see Muka ray and Iyabo Ojo together in most films back then. Yemi Solade is one of the few well trained folks in acting in Nigeria with a degree to show for it and he doesn't waste time in Interviews to brag about that. He bagged a Dramatic Arts degree from University of Ife (Now OAU), and has 3 Masters Degrees in Sociology, Administration and International Relations from Universities in Nigeria and Abroad. He is like Sola Fosudo to me, nicely schooled. When you see folks like Yemi Solade, Deji Adenuga Baba Wande, Akin Lewis, Sola Sobowale in a film, then it must be a good movie with nice story line. I remember Madam Dearest now by Tade Ogidan - one of the great movies I will continue to remember Yemi (my name sake) for. How time flies, it's good to see Yemi Solade aging cutely. Now a bit away from your regular films, as he does more of English films now, especially soap Operas, so you may have seen less of him in regular Yoruba films but he is still in the business. He claimed to have been acting for 43yrs now, and now that's something. Should we call him a veteran? Most likely. Let's celebrate our Actors that make us smile and give us something to stare at, in movies.. Happy birthday from Omoelublog to Oga Yemi Solade. Do you know shop rent might not be the first thing you need with your business ?Well, I was sent this video by Apostle Suleiman this morning by a female friend who have followed my Facebook page for years and recently got my latest book "Making Money with small businesses in Nigeria". Watch this video below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dc94kYsRIZg Good to see someone sharing same perspective with me on the place of sales offline and online. You will agree with me that this man is being realistic here, and I'm glad there is someone out there seeing small business the way I always see it. I believe in starting small and it irks me when people complain so much about money for shop as the big problem in their quest to start their business, when some people will sleep in the shop from morning till night without making more than two customers. Haven't we learn enough on how COVID-19 deal with Businesses owners that require to go to shop or offices ![]() And this, Covid wave is almost here again, that may cripple many Business again. We need to think. I have seen someone who had 150k to start a business and the first thing she could think of is buying a container, and tied the money down, and before she gets another money another person had started the same Business she planned to go into? I have also seen many new shops rented but are not opened for a whole year till the rent elapsed, why? That person quickly paid to secure the shop down with his starting capital. Well, in this book, Making money with small businesses in Nigeria, I have written about how you can start your business when you don't have money for shop yet and why rent for shop should not be your biggest problem. I also talked about how you can sell easily online and offline without shops as part of topics treated in this book. With N2,500 you will have this ebook now. See the full table of contents in the book and tell me why your small business Ideas shouldn't materialize this year?. Interested? While the going year 2020 comes with its ups and down, this young Nigerian, Morenike Victor-Banjo Indeed made some remarkable Academic records in 2020 with 9A1's in WAEC and 335/400 in Jamb, and many more that deserve accolades. Miss Victory Victor-Banjo finished recently from Princeton School Surulere Lagos. Her result was withheld by WAEC and released recently after a month in December, probably being checked thoroughly by the Exam body. She recounted on her linkedin account how she cries almost everyday because of this ugly development from WAEC, and this even affected her admission into a school. Victory Morenike equally also aced her Jamb by scoring 335 out of 400, and she says she's open to scholarship and funding opportunities. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/victory-yinka-banjo_nigerianews-activity-6747199203610501120-HqA2 See her other high scores credits in the Pictures below. LadySarah:Quite Sad |
The is a news report through video shared online by victims that a particular scandalous Empowerment Group named Atlas Initiative Scheme have scammed many Market women, millions of naira in ADO-EKITI, Ekiti State Nigeria. These women in ADO-EKITI cried out to the public and the media to help them find the whereabout of group Atlas Initiative in ADO-EKITI, Nigeria who promised to loan them money for their businesses. The Scheme organizers promised to give them N100,000 loans each, if they can pay N16,000, and 32,000 for N200, 000 respectively. The market women who are always in need of capital to boast their small businesses fell for this scam and were grouped in 10 to 12. Watch the video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cd0VotQK184 We also tried to check online if there is any official site belonging to Atlas Initiative Scheme Nigeria or Ekiti State, and we found this, which is a free hosting site called atlas initiative scheme site hosted by simple site. The number given as customer care hot line is also not available, but there are names of certain individuals on the site as management of Altlas Initiative Scheme. Nigerians should be careful of fraudsters claiming to be helper. They are everywhere now in the name of empowerment scheme. We however now call on Nigerian Police, relevant agencies and authorities in Nigeria to help look into this issue, to help fish out these evil schemers, and their representatives. Hi Nairalanders let's talk about business. I had an encounter with a woman this evening. A retailer bought an Item of 54k from her shop as a wholesaler, (She sells baby items, diapers etc) with the promise that she will pay in 3days. Three weeks after she hasn't paid finish. Paying almost four times annoyingly. She has to be remembered that she's owing before she pays the little she had paid. Her excuse? The people she's selling to, are also owing her. Imagine! She may be right. Yet the profit on the 54k sales is barely 3k. The gain is in turnover. To buy sell, and restock quickly and do that over and over. I met the wholesaler, she laments bitterly today and says she's getting frustrated with the business. "Sir, How much am I making on this product that I will have to beg people to pay, all because I don't want to tie goods down? - She told me while almost crying ... I explained few things to her that may help. The woman above is like many of us in business. Many people put money in businesses but at the end of the year, it's almost down the drain, not because of anything but because many people buy without paying or delayed payment. A business can be like a sick being, you need to heal it. If you don't, it will fizzle our before your eyes and everything will become history. Guys, you see, debts repayment is a big problem in Nigerian business sector. No matter how beautiful your business plan is, if you don't design a model to checkmate buying on credit because you don't have patronage, the latter will kill you than "not selling" that you are running away from. There is actually nothing bad in buying when you are stranded or borrowing when you need, I borrow too, but everyone knows me, If I borrow N1 from you, you should have your money in the next hours once I get boxed up or when I promise. I hate debts. It kills my enthusiasm. I don't go to sleep with debts. I hate it. I won't be okay... I learnt this from my Dad. He will tell you "A kii fi gbèsè sorun s'osoo" . You don't owe someone and you start buying other things to merry or for comfort or to look good. No, you should sacrifice for someone who do you a favour. This is the same attitude with loan repayment, you will see people getting loan from an account through bank and warm people not to send money to that account again, so that banks don't deduct. What evil is more? "Can I take it and pay later" is a common attitude in Nigeria, especially among salary earners. You feel because they work, they will pay but you will be shocked that they won't turn up as expected. They will even insult you and make you feel like that are only helping by even buying on credit. Many people even have money, but will go and pay those who they know don't give shits and won't sell when you don't have money.. As they do "cash and carry". But for you, they know you are very caring. Smile. Nothing Nigerians won't buy on credits, even for food canteen, you will see "No credit today, come tomorrow, pay before service". Lol... Visit car parks and factories to see how drivers and big men keep eating morning, afternoon, and night on credit and food vendors will be chasing them about. I know a lot about this... Lol All these point to many things. You see, before you decide to sell anything, Plan on ways and model to sell them very well and only trust few people. Know your area and the kind of people they are. Let me share an experience. My Dad wanted to start a school business about 20yrs ago that, we often call "Ekolagba International School" jokingly. (Ekolagba means Education leads in Yoruba) He was so passionate about education and having made small money in real estate, he got money for start with some buildings, with many kids in the neighbourhood that he can Influence to have, and being a retired teacher and a community leader, the school by forecasting is already a success by estimation. But hey, he sat down and rethink. He knows the challenge that many school owners are facing and being a father to many people in the area, he will most likely be getting many parents begging to allow their kids to stay that they will pay later, yet he would have to pay teachers and finance the school running. He aborted the Idea immediately and went to buy land in bushes which he was reselling later at appreciable rate. Here are 5 things to know... 1. If you are very popular, you will have problem with people begging to have your service freely. Think 2. Know the kind of business you can do (You can know know your kind of business in many ways. One of it is knowing yourself well and your personality. It helps to know what you can handle well. You need discipline to succeed in some businesses otherwise people will wreck you. (See my book for other ways to know your own kind of business) 3. Design your marketing and sales plan well in a way that credit seekers may not be much, if at all you will allow few. 4. Always try to know what you will be 50% sure that it will sell and learn innovative ways that you can use to sell, I shared some in my a research work I put together on ways to sell your products that can help you greatly. 5. Study what it takes to do business well In Nigeria. Ask people who are already in the business. Don't assume most things. The book "Making money with small businesses in Nigeria" is a must for all small business owners in Nigeria, because there are some special things about Nigeria customers and people that you need to learn. Don't bring foreign business education to Nigeria without studying the pattern and starting small to experiment. It always end in premium tears. See my signature, for more helpful business Ideas, hints, and tips for starting small business in Nigeria. Don't let Nigeria happen to you. Be wise! Young Taofeek Sheikh is a graduate of The Oke Ogun polytechnic, Saki Oyo State currently serving in Kano state. He recently met an Ebira woman roasting maize, who gave him some maize to eat while going about his national assignment, and he posted about the good gesture on his social media account. The post generated good feelers REACTIONS, where some people gave Taofeek some money to give the woman in reciprocation of her kindness. Taofeek went ahead and bought the woman an umbrella to help her through the small business, against sun and rain. Well, for this rare kind gesture, the young corper got a call from the DG of NYSC, Brig Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim today, which is in recognition of the exemplary virtue. Nigeria needs more youths like Taofeek and many thanks to Nigerians who wouldn't stop helping others when the need arise.
