THE STORY OF CHESS CHAMPIONS FROM OSHODI UNDERBRIDGE By Tunde Onakoya (@Tunde_OD on Twitter) Adeoye Fawaz, an 18 year old boy who works as a bus conductor and has lived years of his life Under oshodi bridge emerged as our overall champion in both chess and mental maths. A star is born. It was impossible to hold back tears in this moment when oshodi came to a complete standstill to celebrate our newly crowned chess champion. The final phase of the Mental maths competition was fast and furious but Fawaz aced the questions. Now imagine if you gave these boys a proper education?! Imagine if you gave them coding?! Imagine how many of them we've lost to the streets because no one paid attention. I took the pictures (Third and fourth frame) of Fawaz about a month ago when we saw him for the first time and wrote down his name. He mentioned that his dream was to become a musician and a comedian Who could have thought that he was an Untold story His dreams are valid ♥️ Everyday for two weeks, we taught them our mantra and made them believe that it was possible to do great things from a small place.♥️ It bothered us so much to see them wear the same clothes (Rags) everyday for almost a month so we thought about what we could do to give them a new look on the tournament day. So we brought in a Barber to give them nice haircuts and a stylist to take their measurements. We styled them in classy Native attires with Fìlà and new shoes to match their Owambe swag. They switched up very quickly from rags to royalty. This simple gesture of love is a reflection of what their future could really look like if we gave them equal opportunities to thrive. The grand entry was so beautiful Cars came to a halt Market women cheered for them Everyone wanted to associate with them We gave them the gift of chess. Because where the mind goes, everything follows. The Nigerian National Chess champion- International Master Femi Balogun was impressed by their performance and had a heart to heart talk with them after the games to inspire them on their journey towards chess mastery. And for the ones we subconsciously tag deplorable criminals and refer to as the scourge of society, they were critical to the entire success of this project and none of this would have been possible without their commitment to our activities. We forget that they're humans too♥️ Tope was the only girl in the midst of the 51 children we trained, she's incredibly smart but has lived a horrible experience trying to survive on her own out here. She now lives with one of our volunteers and will be enrolled in a school next year. 51 homeless children in one of the most dangerous ghettos in Nigeria showed up everyday for our chess training because they saw an opportunity to learn- A new lease of hope. Some of are them orphans, while some ran away from their villages to seek greener pastures in Lagos. During our mentorship sessions with them, they confided in us about some of the terrible vices they've committed in the past but they have shown great remorse and a willingness to follow a new path. We created a Database for everyone we trained between the ages of 11-20. We're already in contact with Shelter homes, rehabilitation centres and Orphanages while working out modalities to enroll them and mapping out a financial plan to cater for their education/Skills acquisition for at least the next one year. I now carry a great burden in my heart for those 51 children because now I know their names and I have seen what they can truly become if given an opportunity to let their light shine. Even if it means going to sleep under the bridge with them.... We're far too disconnected from the realities of these people we call "Area boys". Often than less, we underestimate the power of kindness. We query the security of our country whilst inadvertently turning a blind eye to the dreams of these little ones. For most of us, the Oshodi bridge is just a means from point A to B, but for these people, it's the only home they'll ever know. This is a call to action for all of us. The only future worth dreaming of is one that includes all them♥️ We're all Area boys! Let's do this. Looks Suprising and could sound strange, but it happened for real at Yikpata town of Kwara State NYSC camp in Edu Local Government, as a male Corper openly proposed to a beautiful Female Solider while other corp members were seen screaming for joy and couldn't contain their excitement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW50oGoYLoc Could they have just met during the few weeks camping exercise or they must have been dating before NYSC, well only God knows. We wish them all the best. This is to tell other guys not to hide their love for women in Uniform oo, they are people like you and I. Egg retailing or Supply business in Nigeria is another small lucrative business in Nigeria and the reason is because egg are used for many things beyond just eating at home, which makes the demand very high. Again, Egg in Nigeria are produced mostly in rural areas and in the South part, and are often sold in huge quantities to cities and up North. In this business, the agribusiness persons as retailers and suppliers make good money, and experience little business difficulty as those producing it as farmers who struggle with feeds, birds Management and fighting competition. Rather, the middlemen in this distribution sell what they buy, by adding little profit. Increase in price of buying means increase in price of selling. As Nigerians continue to commiserate with those who lost their lives in the unfortunate Ikoyi Collapsed Building in Ikoyi Lagos, a video footage of an Interview by the Property owner Mr Femi Osibona popularly called F.O talking about the prospects and dream behind the project had emerged. The 360° Ikoyi High rise project was described by Mr. Femi Osibona on TVC news recently as first of its kind in Lagos Nigeria, which he said is in continuation of what he had done in different countries around the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5WmUuzSIoo Mr. Osibona who was reported to have been trapped in the unfortunate Collapsesd Building claimed to have recently moved back to Nigeria to do what people expect only the whites or foreigners to do. Records shows that Femi Osibona had done previous similar projects in Lagos in the past before things went wrong.

GONE is a 2020 movie produced by Daniel Ademinokan with leading Actors like Gabriel Afolayan, Stella Damascus and Sam Dede - who played great roles to make the movie one of the best you will ever watch in recent times. It's a story of how Career and Men's strides to fulfil dreams and make more money especially in foreign land can affect their families they leave behind in Nigeria, if care is not taken. Gabriel Afolayan showcased some of his best vibes I have ever seen, with his street drama while Stella Damascus reminds one of the place of motherhood in family Travails. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GomUxocgXo Sam Dede who played the role of Animashaun a.k.a Ani reminds me of his Action movies of the good days of Nollywood. His steps, shakes and sighs, will give you something to be nervous for. Generally, GONE has a good story line and It's suspense filled and definitely not one of those movies you will hiss after watching - like what is this. The filming is classic and it's just perfect glimpse of "make-to-belief", that one can fault very little. Standing tall among many foreign movies as part of Top 10 Nigerian movies on Netflix, you go no say e get why, even with little Social media noise - it truly made my weekend relaxing. If I'm to rate it, I will give it 9/10. Smile! I'm so generous with marks like that because I appreciate efforts and hardwork. E no easy abeg. If not for how it Ended. I for even knack am 10/10 make e carry first Class. Lol. It looks like the story continues somehow with Philip trying to get Ani's wife by force. Go watch, you will enjoy yourself. © OmoElublog

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has advised state governments to enact laws to make mandatory monthly rent payments to make housing more available to Nigerian masses. Fashola made the call on Thursday, October 21, at the 10th Meeting of the National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development in Ikeja, Lagos. According to him, “We may not be able to make all people homeowners, but we can reduce the number of those who lack shelter or live on the edge every so often when rent is falling due. I am sure that our country will be a much better place when three years rent in advance, two years rent in advance or one year rent in advance for middle class and working family residential homes becomes monthly rent, payable at the end of the month. Why we may not get there immediately, this is an area of immense exclusion that we can remedy by legislative action at state level. This is a matter in which the Federal Government has no legislative competence. It is a matter for the states, and I urge you not to turn your backs.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv4pqUXEIWo He said economic indicators showed that payment for a year or more in arrears affected affordability thereby increasing shelter gap, hence the need for legislation. “All state legislators must see this as an important area of representation of their people to make life easier. So must governors and commissioners through executive bills,” he said. This position has been ongoing for months now, as the Minister keep hammering it at slightest opportunity he gets to talk about housing in Nigeria. He said same in 2018, and 2months back at another gathering of housing stakeholders in Nigeria. Well, Nigerians have divergent opinion on this as many think such policy may not work here because of our different earning capacities. See some People's comments and reactions to this. I also express my views in the video of the session where the Minister discussed this. Guys, what's your take on this? Monthly or Yearly?
