South Africa has the highest number of dollar millionaires in Africa, according to a new report. According to a report by AfrAsia Bank and New World Wealth, Johannesburg alone, known as the "city of gold", is home to 23,400 millionaires. South Africa has 30% of the total. Egypt's Cairo comes second with 10,200, with Nigeria's Lagos third with 9,100. The study defines millionaires as people with net assets worth at least $1m (£650,000). It estimates there are close to 163,000 millionaires living in Africa, with a combined wealth of $670bn (£440bn). The number of millionaires is rising fastest in Ghana's capital, Accra, the report said, even though at the moment, with 2,300, it does not make the top five. After Lagos, comes Cape Town with 8,900 and Nairobi with 6,200. Analysis: Milton Nkosi, BBC News, Johannesburg It may come as a surprise to many that Johannesburgh as more than twice the number of dollar millionaires as Lagos, the economic hub of Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation and its number one economy. However, Nigeria became Africa's largest economy only recently, whereas SouthAfrica has been at the helm for as long as I can remember and remains the most industrialised economy in Africa. Being a citizen of the"city of gold", as Johannesburg is known in local languages, I can see the money every day. South Africa's current economic problems has not prevented the emergence of new black industrialists. Economist Owen Nkomo and founder of Inkunzi Investments, told me that old money from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange companies, which is largely still in white hands 21 years after the end of apartheid, has been wisely re-invested. But he also points to the government's Black Economic Empowerment scheme, aimed at redressing the imbalances of white minority rule, as a key driver of the growing number of black millionaires. I have seen for myself in places like Soweto when the new black bourgeoisieflaunt their wealth on Vilakazi Street, where Nelson Mandela once lived, over the weekend. But I have also seen the vast properties in Cape Town owned by white families. All of this must not deludeus, so we forget the plight of the poor majority. South Africa with all its wealth still faces huge problems of unemployment, inequality and poverty. And that should give all of sleepless nights as we celebrate Africa's wealth growth. The University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital has performed its first open heart surgeries on two girls aged seven and 15. UITH Chief Medical Director, Prof Abdulwaheed Olatinwo, during a press briefing in Ilorin on Thursday, said UITH performed the operations on Wednesday in collaboration with medical partners from Apollo Hospital Chennai, India, adding that the patients were in a stable condition. Olatinwo said the partnership would expose UITH patients to the highest quality of surgical care comparable to that obtainable any where in the world. He added that it would facilitate skills transfer to the hospital’s cardiac care team such that subsequent surgeries would be entirely carried out by UITH medical team. Olatinwo explained that the Indian medical team, led by Dr. Neville Solomon, offered their services free of charge, saying the free surgeries were performed on children of indigent parents. Solomon, who is the Head of Department, Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Apollo Children Hospital, Chennai, India, said he had performed about 3,000 free surgeries as a way of helping humanity. He pledged his commitment to assist UITH to maximise the partnership. Source: www.punchng.com/news/indians-nigerians-perform-uith-first-open-heart-surgeries/ cc lalasticlala, ishilove |

YOU CAN'T WIN WITH WOMEN WIFE VS. HUSBAND A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, "Relatives of yours?" "Yep," the wife replied, "in-laws." W O R D S A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use a day... 30,000 to a man's 15,000. The wife replied, "The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything to men... The husband then turned to his wife and asked, "What?" CREATION A man said to his wife one day, "I don't know how you can be so stupid and so beautiful all at the same time." The wife responded, "Allow me to explain . God made me beautiful so you would be attracted to me; God made me stupid so I would be attracted to you!" WHO DOES WHAT A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, "You should do it, because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee." The husband said, " You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee." Wife replies, "No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee." Husband replies, "I can't believe that, show me." So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says.........."HEBREWS" The Silent Treatment A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE) , he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 AM ." He left it where he knew she would find it. The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM . Wake up." Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests. God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece. Ofcourse its good to have a referendum. but I tink its a pure waste of tym. The igbos are only 18% of Nigerians. At then end, majority counts. well except if its only d igbos dat r takin part in it. |

ziryboy:U r a sad and bitter person. I pity ur life. I rily pity ur life. Anyways, @Op, smart thinkin. I think its because the states dat are frequrntly attacked has a high rate of other cultural presence. Jigawa, katsina, zamfara and sokoto are mostly hausas and indigenes. Their population is also sometin to consider; and lastly, economically speaking, those states have little economic significance as compared to states like Kano, Kaduna amd Jos |
make I book space first b4 I open the link. But @op u no try ooo. u for post the story and the pic for here na. Anyways, abeg modify ur post. |

First, twas borno, then adamawa, den Jos, den Kano and now Kaduna. how long before our security forces connects the pattern and dots? Well, let's all be vigilant and avoid all places where dere r mass gatherins |
iamrealdeji:Well, God will save us in this country especially with our clueless police. |
heryyy:The extent of injury to vital structures around d neck will determine if he's gonna survive or not. First of all, the whole of the mandible is gone. wyle that does nt pose immediate threat, blood vessels around are injured, makin him to definitely lose so much blood. Again, the injury to the vocal cord are may cause oedema which will make breathin very difficult. If the pic were slightly rotated, then we would see if there were injuries to the trachea, thyroid gland and parathyroids, the cartilages of the neck, and maybe the oesophagus, etc. Again, the carotid arteries are dangerously close by. I am betting ofcourse that they were nt damaged, else he would be dead already. So for a country like Nigeria, that instead of gettin victims to hospital asap, they instead bring out their fones and start takin pics; victims prognosis worsens. My conclusion is that doctors elsewhere with advanced technology and fast response will easily save the man. For Nigeria, the Victims life is in God's life and his chances of survival is greatly diminished. |
iamrealdeji:my exact question. am guessin jazz or juju is involved in the brainwashin. It can't be threat. this is becos, the person involved would just escape once given d task and den safely remove the bomb vest except ofcourse if vest is programmed to detonate on any attempt to remove. But again, d boko boyz are nt dat smart. Anyways, their end is near |
EmmySparky:Ok. tnks for understanding. |
EmmySparky:Hey calm down. it has not gotten to dat level yet. all I was tryin yo point out was dat those girls were innocent b4 dey became brainwashed. Imagine twas ur sister dat was kidnapped and den brainwashed, and nxt we see her mutilated pix on nairaland; am sure u won't love it. p.s its nt an attack on u. I was jus sayin that lovin it shuld nt be the appropriate tin to say. |
Buhari, removing the checkpoints have no tactical benefit. Banning full lenght hijab would have been a better decision. Pls, wen r u goin to start making the right decisions for all our safety? Smh for Buhari and Apc and Nigeria ![]() |
EmmySparky:U love it? hasn't it occurred to you that its one of the innocent girls that was kidnapped? Well, these pics saddens me anytym I see it. I hope all these mess will end one day. |
Well, God will punish the brainwasher and the bokoharam sponsors. |
