mayormick: Ouch.....this is very painful bro, I know the feelings loosing a well matured rabbit just like that; unfortunately since it is bloat there is personally not much you can do. As I said yesterday have not really heard any treatment for it, even a close friend lost a doe that just gave birth to bloat last month and it was really painful. The best treatment of bloat is to avoid it totally, unfortunately it can't be too certain the way to avoid it. Personally what I can only advise is to be giving them water a plenty, don't let your greens(leaves) be too much although some people will want to argue against this because they believe it is feed that mostly cause bloat whereas I give my rabbits feeds(identify good ones please) very well. I notice the close friend of mine I mentioned above also gives tridax very well to his rabbits yet he couldn't escape bloating in his rabbits. I give tridax to my rabbits once or twice a week with bitter leaves and combinations of garlic and ginger solution, it is the organic way of taking care of my rabbits without depending much on drugs and is working well for me. Once again, I am very sorry for your loss bro Thanks for ya advice |

After taking it to a vet doctor yesterday, and after paying 1500. It was given an injection and a white substance in its mouth yet still it did not eat and poo yesterday...
I asked the vet when it will start eating, he said it should start eating by evening...but throughout it did not...
Unfortunately, this morning when i went to check my rabbit, i found it dead... It is so painful but what can i do... We move...
My advice to fellow rabbit rearers and farmers...ensure you avoid overfeeding and bloating at all cost... It is very deadly.

TosinKate: Sorry for the loss. I experienced this about 4 years ago. I lost all my rabbits, young, adult.... About 65 rabbits. It was viral infection. Hemoraggic...... In fact, I relocated my farm to another area. Through my research and curiosity, I later found out that my animal source was the problem. I bought those animals from a farmer in Abeokuta. The farmer bought the entire farm that had that same viral disease sometime ago, which resulted into disposal of the survival rabbits, cages and tools.
If that was the diagnosed disease, I would advise you slaughter other survivor, they are carriers and the viral infection may manifest later through them. Kindly disinfect your farm, tools, cages thoroughly and allow to rest for a month before restocking. Do not ever allow visitor on your farm and do not visit any farm. If there is need for visitor to enter your farm, let them be disinfected. All the best! Tosinkate that must have been so painful... Thanks for your previous advice... Can i ask, do u still rear rabbit currently? |

Rockeet: Going by the symptoms you stated, the rabbit is suffering from GIT, generally called BLOAT and this could have been as a result of overfeeding or under feeding, insufficient water, dirts accumulation, wrong feeding practices, feeding wet grasses. And this irregularity kills rabbits very fast. There the survival of the rabbit is a 50:50 chance as there is no guaranteed cure for it, especially when you don't on the first day. The best way to cure it is to prevent it from happening and when it does happen withdraw formulated feed from the rabbit and serve air dried or wilthered edible grasses, some farmers dissolve white flagyl in water and give twice on the first day then once on the subsequent days till the rabbit is fine, mixture of charcoal and about 1ml palm oil just once, aloevera and bitter leaf juice, cinnamon powder. You may be fortunate to have you rabbit's health back. All the best Thanks bro, i will kil it tomao...i am tired...i went to a vet today, it was given an injection and a white substance...but still it has not eaten |

GideonOludayomi: To start with, have you checked the teeth for maloclusion? Malocclusion causes the teeth grow abnormally there by making it difficult for the rabbit to eat.
Again, what type of feed do you use? Ready made or self milled? Your answer will determine the next response.
Lastly, it is true rabbit farmers have been experiencing a relative pandemic in the industry and efforts are in top gear to put everything to rest. 1) I think it has problem with his teeth.. Because if i force it to eat, it eats from a particular area. Please what can i do about that 2) i use grass and ready made foods. 3) sincerely bro...to breed rabbits no easy ooo |

Eazie351: bloat is highly suspected here, it's a 50/50 chance, depending on the severity, I'll suggest you give it bitter leaf, if it doesn't eat it, squeeze the juice in it's mouth, them remove it from the cage and put it somewhere it can move around for about 2 days.
the actual cause of bloat cannot be ascertained yet but is mostly linked to indigestion Do u suggest i take it to a vet? |
Pets › Re: Please What Is Wrong With My Rabbit? by midehill(op): 7:57am On Aug 26, 2020 |
safarifarms: That looks like bloat. Bloat is somewhat similar to constipation in humans.
If you feed your rabbits with compounded feed I would have really believed it is bloat. But it seems you use grass mainly.
However, I will suggest you lookup how to help a rabbit with bloat. Some of the options will be;
1. withdraw compounded feed and replace with grass (ie if you were using compounded feed). 2. Press it's stomach while raising it's butt upwards to help it release gas ( they don't normally pass gas on their own - maybe that's why bloat is common with them). 3. Take it out from the cage and leave it in an environment where it will have more space to hop around till the bloat subsides.
Cheers Hmmmn i have done all except that no 2, i will try that now |

alabi826: is there any form of discharge from the rabbit be it blood or mucus, if not it's not the prevelent viral disease. With the symptoms you gave I'm suspecting bloating(check if the stomach is inflated), if it's bloat what you can do is give the rabbit antibiotics injection and pray make God take over, but if the Tommy isn't inflated it might also be coccidiosis, of which you have to place the animal on embazin fort treatment Yes the stomach is inflated... But there is no discharge anywhere |

mayormick: from your explanation, the rabbit is probably suffering from bloat. To be honest, the survival rate is very little, nevertheless you can get flagyl into water to drink and don't give feed for now. Try to be giving greens, tridax preferably Itz not eating or drinking any water at all...please can i ask, are u a vet doctor |
Pets › Re: Please What Is Wrong With My Rabbit? by midehill(op): 9:46pm On Aug 25, 2020 |
seunH: I personally wouldn't charge anything for this kind of treatment because its not really a difficult procedure and moreover the drugs you're likely to get are quite cheap, so just get the drugs your vet asks you to get and just try and talk to him concerning service charge, your vet is most likely to ignore it. Okay thank u |

nedekid: If you are rearing it to sell and the value is less than 6k, you might as well sell it as is, or eat it rather than spend 3k with a vet. On the other hand if it is eg a female you see potentials for breeding or a pet, then you can spend money 3k on vet. Is it 3k they will charge...some are saying itz nt up to that |
Pets › Re: Please What Is Wrong With My Rabbit? by midehill(op): 9:32pm On Aug 25, 2020 |
tmaigari: Hi,
From your photo I can see that its not getting the right diet. 1. Insure you provide hay(dry grass) to aid its digestion. No hay no digestion for rabbits, hence no poo.
2. They hate heat, with heat they will not feed. I will assume your rabbits might be stationed in a hot space around your facility. Find the coolest place around and relocate them to it and you will amazed how they feed.
3. Also, one thing you need to know is that they Love tree barks, try moringa (whole plant: leaves stems and trunks. You might believe it but with time your rabbits will finish even the trunks.
4. Provide the same quality of water you would drink, they can fall I'll from in pure water.
I trust with the above listed 4 points you will not be in the Vet for any reason thorough rearing.
Cheers. Thanks bro |

bigfoot79: I think you should feed it with something different. Mine eats a combination of pellets and carrots and some days ago wifey noticed that she has not been eating or drinking. I started feeding her spaghetti and boom ! She was voraciously consuming it. Last night she was hyper active and very disturbing too but she is fine now Tried that but it is still not eating...gave it different kinds of fruits yet it won't eat |

seunH: I'm so sorry about your rabbit's condition, from the clinical signs your rabbit exhibited your rabbit may be suffering from what we in the Veterinary profession refer to as "Gastrointestinal stasis" In Gastrointestinal stasis, other signs your rabbit may exhibit include: weakness, abdominal pain and grinding of teeth, stops eating, extremely small or no faecal droppings, bloating, becomes inactive and acts depressed. It may worsen to become life threatening. This condition could be due to the kind of feed you fed your rabbit or the rabbit swallowing abnormal objects like hairball etc. What I'll advice you, is for the mean time try and massage your rabbit's abdomen gently and give over the counter pain relievers for rabbit, while you prepare to take your rabbit to a vet. Your vet is likely to administer laxatives or gastrointestinal stimulants, pain relievers, antibiotics and fluid therapy if your rabbit is too weak. Please don't mind those who asked you to cook it, or the treatment expensive. All the drugs for the above may not even be up to 500 naira !!! Please how much in total do you think a vet will charge me, i hope it is not too expensive... Pls quote me back...thanks |

PenSniper: The man i bought my rabits from last month told me the vet injects them at @500 each.
Are they male and female ? If yes, are you sure mating has not taken place without your knowledge ? Are you aware that the female must be separated from the day of conception ? Do you de-fat them regularly ? Those animals are highly allergic. Good luck. Do u tink itz injection they need...pls kindly get back to me |

Let's see what online vets can get you.
Why waiting, please get ingredients ready for rabbit stew. Ingredient for rabbit stew, what ingredients is that... Pardon my ignorance!!! |
