RABBIT FARMING: ANOTHER WAY OF INCREASING YOUR INCOME

Rabbit farming is a profitable business that can give good return within six months. Rabbits belong to the category of micro-livestock because of their small nature. Rabbits are very easy to raise even in a small space and of course, highly prolific, moreover, they grow very fast. Rabbit can provide a good quality and healthy source of protein (white meat) for family. Rabbit meat contains high protein ratio, energy, calcium and vitamin than any other species of animal. Rabbit meat contains low cholesterol and sodium with a distinct taste.
A mature rabbit weighing 4 – 5kg is sold between N4,000 – N8,000. Gestation period of a female rabbit (doe) is between 28 – 32 days and can give birth to 6 kids on average. A doe can give birth 5 – 6 times in a year. Species of rabbit include, New Zealand White, New Zealand Black, New Zealand Red, Flemish giant, Belgium White and Chinchilla.
To raise rabbit profitably, you need to consider the following;
Breed Selection: Select good breed/parent stock based on your preference however, it is important to select breed that is healthy, active but calm. A mature male usually have big scrotum. To check for sexual maturity, hold penis in between your thumb and your first finger and slide it downwards towards the loin, this will distend the shaft of the penis and the sperm duct will protrude, it makes sharp protrusion then it is sexually matured and if otherwise, it is not sexually matured.
Housing: Battery cage system (Intensive system) is the best way to raise large number of rabbit. They can as well be raised on deep litter system on floor with bedding (from wood shavings, maize stubbly, etc). In battery cage system, rabbits are kept in a cage (hutch) made of iron or wood. The hutch should have space for drinker, feeder and kindling box. The hutch should be kept in a shade place having cross ventilation Male and female rabbit should be kept separately from each other unless during mating. This system allows easy harvesting of urine; rabbit urine contains 46% Nitrogen which can be used as fertilizer for crops.
Feeding: Feed consumption rate and nutrient requirements varies according to rabbit age and species. Commercial poultry feed (like grower mash) can be served to rabbits. They should be given sufficient water according to their demand. Its feed should contain 17-18 percent crude protein, 14 percent fiber, 7 percent minerals and 2700 kilo calorie/kg of metabolic energy. Green leafy vegetables, seasonal vegetable, spinach greens, Triadax procumbens, carrots, Muller, cucumber, green grass and vegetable waste can easily be used as feed for rabbit. The feeders and drinkers can be made of concrete materials. A lactating mother needs concentrate two times a day.
Reproduction: The female rabbit are naturally shy, the workers should keep away, the female should be taken to the male for mating and never put a male in the female cage. Use bigger male for crossing and after successful crossing, the male fall off the female with its back on the floor with typical sound. Separate the two after mating. Best time for crossing is between 5 and 7am in the morning. Pregnancy can be confirmed with hand after 15 day. A pregnant rabbit looks attractive and prefers more rest. Gestation period is between 28 – 32 days. The mother is separated from the kittens after one month and put for crossing again. Kittens are born blind and can remain for 8 - 10 days hence they need to be helped to get milk from their mother and should be protected from cold. Avoid touching the kittens with bare hand.
Biosecurity: Ensure the hutch and shed are kept clean. Remove faeces, urine and waste food materials from the hutch and floor.
Pest and Diseases: Block soldier ants entry into the shed and hutch. Proper management will keep the rabbit free from diseases and pests.

*WHY I STARTED RABBIT FARMING*

I am Ojogbon Abimbola Omoseebi Helenbims Global Rabbit Farms. I went into rabbitry because I was looking for alternative source of income when I wanted to apply for my PhD program 2 years ago. I realised what I would pay as school fees will be much and there would be no one to assist me with money.
While ruminating on how to go about this, On a funny note, i prayed to God to open my eyes to a profitable business, then what i heard the following day was rabbit farming. (Don't be surprised I needed to pray for God's guiding, because I'm a minister in MFM). After this word of knowledge, I told my wife about it, but she objected that how much would rabbits give me. I never allowed myself to be discouraged because I knew the word I received was unusual and I mustn't let it go. So, I started scavenging for information about Rabbit farming online. To the extent that Every time I am reading on the internet , I read nothing apart from rabbit farming. So I equipped myself with adequate knowledge through YouTube videos, google search, nairaland and blogs. I started studying Kenya's system and God brought an article on nairaland to me where I dropped my Number and was added to "Rabbit Buzz". The wonderful people I met in the group made me filled with passion to start immediately with their daily expository knowledge, lectures and answers to questions. With this burning passion in me, I launched out to start rabbit farming business. Though, my madam still insists No� but I secretly paid a carpenter to construct a 6 room hutch for me. When I finished the hutch, I brought it home and ordered 2 Matured Does(One from Gvision in Ilorin) and 1 Buck. I started with these and after a month, I bought another Matured Doe from Abeokuta. Goga, opened my eyes to wide opportunities in rabbitry while Mr. Toyese succeeded in teaching me some marketing strategies and viola, customers started booking for my rabbits.That was how I started making constant money and my wife was finally convinced to support me. I started buying more, breeding more and making more money till today.��


*Lesson*:

1. Let God direct you in whatever business or anything you want to do.
2. Let passion be your first drive in any business you want to do, for you will lose your fortune if you invest in any business you have no knowledge about.
3. Don't be discouraged to pursue whatever dream you believe in.
4. Acquire knowledge, get mentors if you are starting a business.
5. Don't despise your little beginning. A journey of long distance must start from somewhere. Don't wait until you have big money to start that business of your choice, start with what you have and from where you are.

*My Future Plans*
1. I want to have the biggest rabbit farm in Ondo state in few years to come where other farmers will be coming to buy and also for trainings.
2. I want to have a rabbit/barbecue joint where only rabbits and chilled kunu and soft drinks will be sold.
3. I want to be employer of labours through this business and have dispatch motorcycles/customized tricycles for delivery of my Rabbit meats.
4. Have more outlets at convenient places in the town where frozen Rabbit meats will be sold.
5. Invest more in advertisements and make rabbit meats popular.

@midehill, after reading your sister's story, I can say that her situation won't be this bad if she has financial independence. You said your sister has her own bad side, can you please shed more light on that? Do you think her bad side contributed to her husband's change in attitude?
But in all, I think the man should at least consider the welfare of his children.

1) She shouldn't pack out the house cos if she does the issue may never be settled. I have someone like that, she packed out and the man philandering ways became worse, two women packed into the house. The child she left behind died, they claimed she committed suicide.

It is sad, the marriage is seriously fragmented. The man having a woman and a child outside makes the whole union very entangled, no pun intended. This is the very reason why a woman should and never be financially dependent on a man be it boyfriend or husband, have something doing that will be yielding you money no matter how small. If your sister is a little bit financially stable, she must have left with the kids by now. If your parents are still alive and can accommodate her and the kids, then temporal separation would do both of them good, while your sister upgrades herself. If after the separation they don't come back together again, so be it, yes your sister can still find love again even with her kids.

For me your plagiarism rate is very okay. The fact that AdSense denied your site isn't because of plagiarism. There a many issues that can stop your AdSense approval. E.g

If you withhold your country or name on your website

If your privacy policy doesn't state the data you collect.

If your contents are about porn, hacking, betting, etc.

I think you should employ an expert that will look into those things and give you AdSense approval. If you don't have the budget, then carefully go through their content policy word for word until you fix every issue in your blog.

Also, you can make money from affiliate marketing and selling ad space. Don't depend entirely on AdSense. Find a way to make money for your blog yourself.

Hello guys, I opened a site and I have more than 60 articles on it, I applied for google adsense, I was denied approval. The site is 3 months old at least

I have all the necessary things like contact us page, about us page, sitemap.

My site is seo friendly and neat.

The only issue I have is that some phrases and sentences not more than 5 looks plagiarised.

When I checked plagiarism checker tools, I was informed that I have 75 percent original article with 25 percent plagiarism

Could that be the reason why I was denied approval? Please help...

I have asked some pple wu r experienced in this way, some said it does not mean as long as all the sentences In the article are plagiarised, some said it is one of the things affecting my approval.

Hello guys, I listed my domain name for premium listing on afternic before the end of the initial 60 days, so after the 60 days, my registrar namesilo sent me a mail that afternic wants to list my domain for sale on their premium listing that I Shud accept if I am the one that initiated it, I accepted, does that mean I am now on afternic listing automatically?
