ABUJA—A member of the House of Representatives, Samuel Ikon, who was accused of illegally soliciting for prostitutes, alongside two other lawmakers while in the United States, has written to the US ambassador in Nigeria, James Entwistle, and threatened to seek legal redress in competent courts of law both in Nigeria and the US.
https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Reps-sex-scandal-e1466199260817.jpg
He issued the threat in a letter addressed to the ambassador, explaining that he was ill during the trip and could not have had sex due to ill-health.
He said he would have no other option but to go to court, if the ambassador failed to clear his name of the allegation, saying also that he was ill at the time of the purported incident and couldn’t have had sex in that condition.
Entwistle had on June 9, 2016, written to the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, alleging that three members of the House, including Samuel Ikon, Mohammed Gololo and Mike Gbillah, requested hotel parking lot attendants to help them solicit for prostitutes during their leadership training in America.
But Ikon said the allegation was not only false, but also in bad taste, adding that he was diagnosed of Malaria and Typhoid before the trip and was on medication throughout the trip.
He said he only got a bit stable in Cleveland when the medication began to kick in..
The lawmaker, represents Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Constituency of Akwa Ibom, said he was also on medication to reduce his PSA level which tests in February this year, revealed a disturbing increase.
Consequently, he said the issue of sex was totally ruled out for him, in view of his health challenge.
Ikon urged the ambassador to review the case within seven days, after a more detailed look at the evidences available.
According to him, this will make him realise that a mistake had been made, so he can regain his integrity. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/sex-scandal-rep-writes-us-ambassador-nigeria-threatens-legal-action/ |

Politics › AGF, Malami ‘shuns’ Senate; Issues Statement by midolian(op): 8:57pm On Jun 23, 2016 |
Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), on Thursday, failed to honour an invitation of the senate, but later issued a statement to say Senate President Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, his deputy, will get fair trial.
Although, the reason for his absence was not clear, Malami was supposed be appear before senate committee on judiciary on Thursday, a suit of alleged forgery which he filed against the leadership of the 8th senate.
Saraki, Ekweremadu, Salisu Maikasuwa, former clerk of the national assembly, and Benedict Efeturi, his deputy, are facing charges of alleged criminal conspiracy and forgery of the senate standing rules, 2015.
Declared that its standing rules were authentic and not forge, the upper legislative chamber resolved to mandate its committee on judiciary to summon the AGF “to explain and to justify with evidence the basis for his act and to explain why it does not constitute incompetence, gross misconduct, contempt of court and abuse of office”.
The resolution of the senate followed a point of order raised by Dino Melaye, a senator from Kogi west.
Melaye had argued that if the senate rule book was forged it implied that the passed 2015 budget, and all ministers confirmed by the upper legislative chamber were fake.
But in the statement issued on his behalf by Salihu Isah, his spokesman, Malami insisted that those charged have a case to answer.
“The attention of the attorney-general of the federation has been drawn to a press statement by the senate, signed by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, chairman, senate committee on media and affairs, on June 19,” Malami’s statement read.
“The statement entitled: ‘Forgery Case, An Unconstitutional Violation of Principles of Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances’, was published in some national dailies and social media platforms.
“It is quite unfortunate that the senate construed move of the federal government as a coup against the legislature with a view to cause a leadership change in the national assembly.”
Malami said his office was empowered and vested with the power to undertake and initiate criminal proceedings in any court of law in Nigeria, accusing the lawmakers of deliberately raising allegations “to whip up sentiments”. https://www.thecable.ng/attorney-general-snubs-senate-over-forgery-charge

Criminals too want to enjoy immunity... Now, lemme ask.. If the legislooters enjoy immunity, when will they pay for their sins? Eg..David Mark was SP for 8yrs[if Buhari had not won election, he'ld still be there] and he has been in the Senate for over 16yrs...if we r to wait till he leaves the senate b4 dealing with him, it means we ll wait forever..cos this man wld love to be there till death says otherwise. Plus, it has been observed with dismay that most of these governors, after spending 8yrs looting their state's treasury, tend "to seek asylum" in the Senate. For goodness sake, imagine these conglomerate of looters having immunity..just imagine it. Not even one of them(SP) is imaginable. The Executive(Buhari & co) on the other hand can only be there for a maximum period of 8yrs after which they can pay for their crimes(if any). |

https://inl.56uliwuf3kooqtvdn.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Bukola-Saraki.jpgLagos – Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Wednesday said Nigerians are misinterpreting what the members of the National Assembly said with regards to immunity at the just concluded retreat on the amendment of the 1999 constitution in Lagos last week.
Speaking in a chat with Independent, Alhaji Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Senate President said contrary to the impression being given that the National Assembly is demanding immunity for its members, the lawmakers are only canvassing immunity for the heads of the three arms of government- executive, legislative and judiciary.
He said since the three arms of government are independent, the lawmakers are of the opinion that the executive alone cannot be enjoying immunity, while the two others are deprived of such. According to him “it is either immunity is given to the three arms of government or withdrawn from all”.
“ On the issue of immunity, what they discussed at the retreat is that the senators said it is either you give immunity to all three arms of government or immunity to none. That is, there are three arms of government; the executive, legislative and the judiciary”.
“One cannot be enjoying immunity, while the others can’t benefit from same. The immunity is not for the Senate president alone, it will also be given to the Chief Justice of Nigeria who is the head of the judiciary arm of government”.
“ So, the senators said it is either you give all the heads of the three arms or you remove it from the executive arm so that nobody will have it” he said. http://independentnig.com/2016/06/23/executive-alone-cant-enjoy-immunity-saraki/ |

The management of Zenith Bank, which majorly funded my election, called me to a meeting where I was assured that fund will be provided for my election Just like that Does this man think Nigerians are fools? |
Politics › How Zenith Bank Funded My Election –fayose by midolian(op): 3:49pm On Jun 22, 2016 |
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has opened up on how his election was funded two years ago by the Zenith Bank Plc, fund raising, donations from friends and associates as well as sales of campaign souvenirs.
“I have no financial transaction whatsoever with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) under Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) and former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro either by cash, cheque or electronic transfer,” the governor said.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, the governor challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to publish statements made by Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, his son or any other person associated with money from the NSA office where they claimed they gave him money for the election.
The governor said; “The management of Zenith Bank, which majorly funded my election, called me to a meeting where I was assured that fund will be provided for my election. I was asked to nominate a trusted ally to be related with and I nominated Mr Abiodun Agbele.
“All the payments into Abiodun Agbele’s account domiciled in Zenith Bank were directly from Zenith Bank. In actual fact, the account was opened by Zenith Bank hurriedly at that time and Abiodun Agbele’s identity card which ought to have been collected before the account was opened was only collected last week in the bank’s desperation to perfect the account obviously after submitting to the intimidation and harassment of the EFCC.
“Most of the funds posted into Agbele’s account were through the Ibadan, Akure and Lagos branches of the Zenith Bank and sometimes; they brought cash.
“Assuming but not conceding that cash moved from Lagos to Akure as being claimed by the EFCC in its usual manner of media trial, was meant for my election in Ekiti, why was the cash not moved to Ado Ekiti branch of Zenith Bank or the cash handed to me directly? Why was it deposited into Zenith Bank, Akure and did the bank make any report on the transaction to the appropriate authorities? Why did the bank send its bullion van to move the money from Akure Airport to their Akure branch if it was illegal money?
“I must say it categorically that I don’t have any link financially with Obanikoro and I know as a fact that he (Obanikoro) has not; and cannot mention my name, as beneficiary of whatever money any company in which he has interest could have gotten from the ONSA if truly Obanikoro collected money from the ONSA as being claimed by the EFCC.
“Therefore, bringing Obanikoro and his son’s narrative or that the Zenith Bank is telling different stories, having been blackmailed and coerced into submission by the EFCC is a joke that will not fly.
“I wish to state further that if it becomes evidently clear that those who willingly provided money for my election can no longer stand by what did, may be because of threat from the EFCC, I will not hesitate to name names.”
“EFCC is only acting a movie scripted, produced and directed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of President Mohammadu Buhari just to silence me being a major opposition voice in the country,” he said. Zenith Bank was not available for comments as at the time of this report.
Its spokesperson, Victor Adojie, did not answer or return calls. He is also yet to respond to a text message seeking comment.
The governor, who challenged the EFCC to also beam its searchlights on the funding of APC elections, especially that of President Buhari, said; “Since we are now in the era in which financial assistance from Nigerians to fund elections is being criminalised, the international community, especially those funding EFCC must insist that the commission probes the funding of APC elections before further funds are released to the commission.
“Most importantly, Nigerians are interested in the $60 million allegedly donated to the APC campaign by Sahara Energy, on which EFCC has been forced to suspend investigation.
He said it was obvious that he had become the main headache of President Buhari’s government, adding that; “what they are doing now is part of their grand plots to intimidate and harass me into submission but I am not someone that can be cowed by threats of incarceration and death.
“I advise that they should keep their gun pounder dry and wait till the end of my tenure in 2018 and I want to assure them that I will be available to answer any of their questions, no matter how unreasonable.
“Furthermore, Nigerians should know that I have been persecuted by the EFCC before, using phantom N1.2 billion poultry scam and I came out victorious. I was not only acquitted, I got N10 million judgment against the EFCC and my impeachment that was orchestrated by the EFCC was quashed by the Supreme Court.
“Nigerians should recall that it was part of this plot to get back at me because of my critical stance on Buhari’s government that the Ekiti State House of Assembly was invaded by men of the Department of State Service (DSS), placement of travel ban on me and lately, illegal frozen of my account by the EFCC.
“I therefore make bold to state that in the overall interest of democracy and well-being of Nigerians, I will continue to speak my mind on issues bordering on governance in Nigeria. I will not be intimidated!” On the alleged involvement of President Buhari’s wife, Aisha Buhari in the Williams Jefferson scam, the governor challenged the president’s wife to visit the United States of America to convince Nigerians that she was not the Aisha Buhari mentioned in the judgment.
He said; “It is on record that the President has visited USA three times and his wife did not travel with him. Equally, she ought to have visited USA last year September to chair a United Nation programme but she sent wife of the Senate President, Mrs Toyin Saraki to represent her.” http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/205750-zenith-bank-funded-election-fayose.htmlLalasticlala |
