Former Governor Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State yesterday voiced dismay at the status of hero of democracy widely accorded to former President Goodluck Jonathan on account of his decision to concede defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential polls. Mr. Sylva, who succeeded the former president as governor before the two fell out, stated that Mr. Jonathan’s attempts to scuttle the election disqualified him from being declared a hero. Following a political quarrel, then President Jonathan had pressured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop Mr. Sylva from contesting for a second term in office in 2011. Speaking to reporters yesterday in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, Mr. Sylva described former President Jonathan’s concession as inevitable. He stated that it would have been suicidal for the former president. According to him, the bestowal of a heroic stature on the former president merely demonstrated that it was cheap to earn such status in Nigeria. “For me, conceding defeat is not an achievement. Let us take a look at the event they tried everything to subvert and thwart,” Mr. Sylva said, commenting on the declaration of Mr. Jonathan as a hero. He continued: “They tried to go to court to stop the announcement of the result. Former Minister, [Godsday] Orubebe, tried to stage a coup during the announcement [of election results] to allow some paid ex-militants to invade the venue. They asked the former Inspector-General of Police to withdraw security from the venue to allow ex-militants [to] invade the venue. When all else failed, what did you expect him to do? If the Super Eagles play a football match and were defeated and accepted defeat, is that an achievement?” Mr. Sylva stated, “Seriously, if this is the level where Nigeria has descended to, it is a sorry state. We cannot be praising somebody for loosing in such manner. [Jonathan] didn't have any other choice whatsoever. What would he have done? To kill himself? Any other thing for Jonathan to do in Aso Rock would have been suicide. Or self-destruction. At that point, Jonathan also knew it. What he should be saying is that, at that point, he did not self-destruct. If one can be a hero so cheaply in Nigeria, then it is sad. For the APC, what we considered was that there was no need to rub the defeat in. The man was down and we decided to humor him out of office.” On his possible run for the 2016 governorship election, Mr. Sylva remarked, “Bayelsa should not be worried about whether I run or not. What they should be worried about is whether APC is fielding a candidate or not. It is not about me. It is about the APC. But you people (the media) should know that I am still eligible and qualified to contest under the law. But whether I am running or not will be determined by the party. The APC will take the final decision. And whoever the party picks will win Bayelsa State.” Former Governor Sylva asserted that the ruling PDP in Bayelsa had lost its popularity and would be defeated in the forthcoming election. “Let me tell you, the fear element being used by the PDP is no longer there. Because Jonathan was an incumbent, there was fear. But now, it is no longer there. And that is why there has been an upsurge in the support for the APC. “It is the same thing Dickson is experiencing. He ruled the state with fear and intimidation. And when you rule by intimidating your people, then the loyalty is liable to break under any form of stress. That is what happened during slavery. And that is what happened with colonialism. Once you rule a people by fear and not love, it will break. The time for that loyalty to break is now.” Mr. Sylva added: “Today, I was in Otuokpoti community in Ogbia and I told them that the PDP is dead. You can continue to shift the date of the party's burial forward. PDP has tried to postpone the date of funeral all the time. I said that the PDP had postponed the funeral from 14th of February to March 28th, but of what use was it? The Party is dead.” Last week, Nigeria’s Director of Public Prosecution made an appearance in court to drop corruption charges against Mr. Sylva, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The controversial move rankled commentators on social media who saw it as an early retreat from President Buhari’s pledge to wage a no-nonsense war on corruption. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had brought the corruption charges against Mr. Sylva shortly after his removal as governor. http://saharareporters.com/2015/06/07/goodluck-jonathan-not-hero%E2%80%94timipre-sylva |

A senior official of the Federal Ministry of Health, Martins Ugwu, who has been practicing as a medical doctor for close to 10 years, has been arrested by the police upon discovery that he stole the medical license from his friend. Ugwu, who is a Senior Medical Officer II on Grade Level 13, was found to have impersonated his friend, Dr. George Davidson Daniel, who is undergoing a residency training programme in Jos, Plateau State. He allegedly stole the license from his friend for whom he was best man during his wedding in 2006. They both hailed from Orukpa in Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State. THE PUNCH learnt that Ugwu, who was due to be promoted as Assistant Director in Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Health, has been working in the civil service since 2006 under the name of Dr. George Davidson Daniel until he was indicted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria as an impostor. Ugwu, who was arrested by the police last Thursday, was however released a few hours later, fueling speculations that the policemen might have been compromised. Ugwu’s arrest was sequel to an investigation by the MDCN, which registers all Nigerian doctors and regulates their practice, after investigations uncovered two Dr. Daniels—the same name on two separate identity photographs. The MDCN, in a letter to the Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission, dated June 4, 2015, signed by the Registrar, Dr. A. Ibrahim, described Ugwu as an impostor, adding that the case had been reported to the police for further investigation and action. It reads, “Records available to the council revealed that this Dr. Davidson Daniel George is an impostor as he is impersonating another Dr. Davidson Daniel who is the genuine doctor and currently undertaking his residency training in Jos, Plateau State. “Council summoned and interacted with the genuine doctor who gave some vital information on the impostor. Council has reported the matter to the law enforcement agency as a case of impersonation, with the genuine doctor deposing to a statement with regards to what happened between him and the fake doctor whose real name is Mr. Martins Ugwu. “As it is, Mr. Martins Ugwu is an imposter. You may therefore wish to take further actions to deal with this matter in accordance with the provisions of the law.” But the MDCN said it was dissatisfied with police handling of Ugwu’s case and promised to take up the matter with the Inspector-General of Police. The council cited a previous arrest of a fake doctor arraigned for prosecution, insisting that prosecuting police officers have never called the council’s investigators to court as witnesses while the case stalled in court. The council said so far, it is currently investigating and prosecuting some 40 cases of quacks in courts. Ironically, Ugwu was part of a government committee that met more than 200 contingents returning from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea where they had volunteered to help fight Ebola under an African Union mission, last week in Abuja. The Head of Inspectorate Department, MDCN, Dr. Henry Okwuokenye, who led the team of investigators, confirmed Ugwu’s arrest to one of our correspondents on Sunday in Abuja. http://www.punchng.com/news/fake-doctor-practises-with-friends-licence-for-10-years/ |

I searched through google to see what the site is all about and all I could find was hate campaign against Buhari..jst like breakingtimes.com OREMUSSANCTUS:Sometimes, it is good to see the fire first. |

lomprico:live to call him super-clueless. |
Even if GEJ's the last person left on earth. Buhari won't consult him on choice of ministers. He ll have to be super-clueless to do so |
Decryptor:And who owns this lost goat that is bleating? |
dominique:ok then. |
dominique:yea, you are right. Buh pressing the report button doesn't work @ times. When you press the report button, the post you are reporting immediately disappears "for you" and you alone. Others will still be seeing it. |
When you have too many children in the house, you are bound to have the good, the bad and the ugly. Check the stats to see how many pple are on nairaland..there is no way you can easily moderate 1.3million Nigerians And you sef gatz lower your gaze if u don't want to be seeing things like that. From the topic, you should know what to expect. You don't see a topic that reads "Boobs on display" and expect to see something decent when you open the thread. |
Caseless:hahahahaahahahahaha ![]() This your prediction strong o! ![]() |
SeverusSnape:Now, go check his threads to see how many I ve commented on.. You ll find but a very few. And these very few must be shared with me b4 I comment.. I don't take him seriously anymore cos he writes with hatred for Buhari. And as a result, doesn't give valid points..and that was the simple statement I made b4 u said I hate him. I hate that because I don't hate him. The guy haz never insulted me or my religion b4. And for this, he deserves my respect. As for u,. You are neither muslim nor christian. And I know you have a reason for that..and I respect whatever reason u have for this decision u made. Pls respect my religion too. If you observe, in most cases u mention me, I don't respond(that's when I see you are trying to make a mockery of my religion).. If u have problem with me, gv me a bashing as much as u can but pls, let my religion be. #peace |
Caseless:hahaha...I can't help but to disagree with you on this.. I don't know ecstacy, its agarawu I know..And he is our MR. Nairaland 2015 ![]() |
SeverusSnape:hate to insult you, buh guy, u neva deserved the little respect I av gvn u in the past. To think I envy a failure like your god(barca), makes me disappointed in you. What is it about him that ll make one(a right thinking person) want to be like him? Is it his hypocrisy? Inconsistency? oR his misplaced hatred for Buhari? Lemme make it clear to you here. I dont hate barca as you ignorantly stated. I only hate the fact that 'he used to write because he has something to write, buh these days, he writes because he needs to write something(especially to please kids like u)'.If I don't hate you and oremu.ssanctus that insult me and my religion, then I still don't see that person that's very active in the politics section that I ll hate. There is something about u these days that I don't really get.. Are u having problem growing up OR there is something else wrong with you? |
Thank God! This is a good news |
