Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Wednesday morning, signed the Senate’s version of the National Minimum Wage Bill, 2019 (SB 722).

The Bill passed the Third Reading stage at the Senate on Tuesday.

The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, on Monday alleged that his Assets Declaration Form 001 at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) had been tampered with.

Onnoghen made the allegation at his resumed trial on alleged non declaration of some of his assets before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).



The said documents are the CCB assets declaration forms of 2014 and 2015.

The prosecution after calling its 1st witness, James Akalla, a Senior Investigative Officer with the CCB, had sought to tender the said documents in support of his evidence against Onnoghen.

However when the documents were shown to the defendant, Onnoghen through his counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo SAN, however said a careful look at the documents showed that they had been tampered with. According to him, the 2014 form has become loose, part of it mutilated and has become blue in a way.

Awomolo said a similar observation was made in the 2015 form with some duplication and omission of some pages.

“We have some reservation on the documents, we will not object in the interest of justice but we have reservations that would be addressed at the end of the day”, the senior lawyer stated.

The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, was absent from the Tuesday’s proceedings of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, where he has been charged with six counts of non-declaration of assets.



Explaining his absence to the three-man Bench of the CCT, his lawyer, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), said the suspended CJN developed a toothache which needed to be treated urgently.

To justify the defendant’s absence, Awomolo produced a medical report obtained by Onnoghen from the hospital where he was said to be receiving treatment.

The prosecuting counsel, Mr. Aliyu Umar (SAN), acknowledged that he had been given a photocopy of the medical report.

He noted that he would have expressed “an observation” about the medical report but for the comment of the doctor who signed it, stating that Justice Onnoghen had a high blood pressure of 410/121.

He also noted that the doctor also stated in the letter that the defendant needed to observe bed rest.

The tribunal, led by its chairman, Danladi Umar, had ruled on Monday that hearing in the case would hold daily.

It also deferred rulings on two separate applications filed by Onnoghen to challenge the jurisdiction of the tribunal to hear the charges against him till when final judgment would be delivered in the case.

However, following the concession by the prosecution and the recommendation in the medical report that the defendant needs a bed rest for 72 hours, the tribunal adjourned the case till March 18.

The All Progressives Congress in Edo State has broken an all-time record in electoral contest in last Saturday’s House of Assembly election.

It won all the 24 available seats in the Assembly as candidates of the APC defeated all Peoples Democratic Party candidates from the results announced by INEC Returning Officers at various collation centres.

The results of the House of Assembly election was different from the February 23rd presidential and National Assembly election in which the PDP won with a margin of over 7000 votes.

In Edo Central that used to be a bastion of the PDP, the APC won all the six available seats in the senatorial districts.

The results of the House of Assembly election threw members of the APC to joyful mood as they trooped resident of the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Barr. Osarodion Ogie for victory celebration.
