Music/Radio / Any Trumpet Or Sax Players For Hire In Lagos ? Urgently Needed by mikeydre: 11:38pm On Sep 07, 2010
Hello,

I didn't get much of a reply in my last post so I might as well do another.

I urgently need an experienced sax and trumpet player for a few studio sessions. I would pay well for your time.
Music/Radio / Please Someone Read This And Help Me If You Can! by mikeydre: 3:08am On Sep 07, 2010
Hi everyone, sorry for the overly dramatic subject. I am hoping someone here can help me with information on the general state of recording in Nigeria.
First a bit about me. I am 25 and currently completing my masters degree in the UK. I left Nigeria when I was 18 and have studied and worked here for the last 6 years.
I joined a band in the UK, we made mostly prog metal (its like heavy metal but more melodic), we got a few gigs around the Manchester and London scenes but nothing major.
Quite recently we've had an A&R looking at us, but I'm not willing to sign a record deal here as I'm coming back to Nigeria.

By the way, i'm the vocalist in the group and unfortunately I don't play any instruments but I write all the songs and the melodies.

So here's the question,

I am coming back to Nigeria next month, and I want to get into the music industry, it's that simple.

I've been writing music that is geared towards the Nigerian market --I can categorically say that there is NO ONE in the industry that makes the kind of music I do-- my style is a blend of soul/funk/hip-hop rock, it's very eclectic so it's pretty hard to describe it. Maybe my best description would be, a bit of ASA and a bit of fela.

I was wondering if it was possible to get a studio where a whole band can record a song. Over here, if a band wants to record with live instruments they can do that in a studio and some studios even have spaces for choirs (which I might need),since I only make music with live instruments, I am quite worried that I might not be able to record any songs for lack of space and I also worry that most recording studios in naija would not make instruments like guitars and drums available to the recording artist.

Also, I was wondering where I could find session artists (ie people who can play instruments and would play for hire). Since I can't play any instruments I would need to find band members, I would be happy to pay them for their services on a per song basis.

Thirdly, where can I find a quality studio, how long is a session and how much is it ?

Fourthly, how can I generate publicity for the song, I don't intend to sell CD's or anything, I just want the music to be played on radio and TV (forget channel U and MTV base, Lagos TV station is all I am interested in).

The reason I'm so anxious is because I decided at the last minute I was going to come back to Nigeria and I have a song that is pertinent to this coming election, so it's my intention to get it played on radio and TV before the election day, it's a very political song and I have a lot of hope in it. I need it to be on TV stations by 1st December

My problem obviously is that I have to come to Nigeria late October, find a studio, a producer and an engineer, record the song, then shoot a video.

Is it even possible to have it in Lagos TV stations and radio stations at short notice (maybe if I settle the DJ ?)

By the way, to any potential bandmates:

I am looking for someone to play Bass (very urgently)
Drums,
Acoustic Guitar and Electronic guitar
Trumpets

and if I could get a female vocalist that would be great! (Wishing)

Sorry for the tediously long message, but before I go,

In Nigeria's Rap Game I only recognise two,

M.I

Business / Re: I am Planning On Coming Back To Naija, What Biz Can I Invest 10,000 Pounds On? by mikeydre: 3:20pm On Feb 15, 2009
I laugh, I would still live with my parents in Nigeria, and at 23 owning a home isn't the most important thing to me now.

I am looking for what or how to invest my savings while I do my NYSC, I am sure there are options for 2.2 mill, even if it means putting it in a fixed deposit account for two years.

Naijacutee, I have a great payment plan that is interest free for an entire year, but buying high end electronics to sell in Naija is properly not a good idea. But abeg which plans can you guys advise ?

Brianromel, thanks Jare. I have been so out of tune with Naija, I can't possibly see what kind of buisness I can start, but that phone and laptop buisness sounds good.
I get my laptop on 12 months credit here.

I am on a buy now pay later plan and I bought a Sony Viao, for about a 1,000 pounds that I pay off in bits, I can also get phones like that.

If I spent a good portion on my savings buying laptop and phones do you think there is a viable market for it back home ?

Wow, sorry man, you aren't being very enlightening.
The point of my entire post was to intimate that I was interested in investing in Nigeria and I was looking for advice as to what to invest in.
You then write a very oblique post that doesn't give any sort of information but promotes whatever business you are running.
You would have been more helpful if you had suggested what sort of investment would be worthwhile as opposed to letting me know that the source of wealth creation is investment.
Well if I didn't know that I would be asking the question in the first place.
Suffice to say, your entire post is irrelevant, and you didn't write that post with an intention to help me but to promote yourself.
Romance / Re: Who Do You Prefer - Foreign Or Naija Lady? by mikeydre: 11:54am On Feb 15, 2009
I don't know about in Naija, but here in England, those Naija girls are craaazzzy. They are looking for suger daddies as opposed to boyfriends and get this, they are way more promiscuous than their western counterparts. For the last two years I have dated a swedish girl and it has nothing to do with her race and a lot to do with her temperment.

What's up people ?

I just graduated Uni in the UK ,I originally intended to come back home in a couple years but at 23, my parents are pushing for me to come and do NYSC.

I have been pretty independent for the last six years and I am loathe to come back home and go back to asking my parents for money as I know that I would not get a job immediately because
a) I have to do NYSC for one year
b) I would have to go to Law school after NYSC for two years ( I am a law grad)

I presently work in an insurance company and I have savings that are just short of 3,000 pounds. I am certain that I could increase that to 10,000 pounds when I am ready to come back, but my question is, what do I do with the money ?

For the last 6 years, I have always been in employment and I have been used to a steady income, I don't want to sve all this money just to spend it back home.

Does anyone know of any viable business opportunity or investment that I could put that money into.

And I no be maga, 419ers don't bother replying. My eyes shine well well.

I just need to know exactly what I would be doing and if Nigeria is actually a place I can invest my funds.

Peace

Michael
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Abeg O Make Una Helep Me! by mikeydre: 11:59pm On Sep 09, 2008
Thanks you guys. Really I don tire for this place, I came here with a plan just to do my undergraduate and come back home but like juju I just find myself postponing it because of my fears that I wouldn't find a decent job in Nigeria. Now I just dey pack degrees like Abacha Pack our money but still I never get gaurantee say things go sure for me. Anyway sha, e go better.

There a very few Assest management firms that would support work permit for international students but I might find a position in a bank. Na to begin fast and pray remain.

Wetin dey my people ?

I just graduated from a Uni in the UK with a 2.2 in Law. As you can imagine that was quite disappointing for me as I expected better. Any sha, I got a job in a marketing company in their sales division (the pay is shit 16 K Pounds a year, which is nothing here) but I am seriously considering coming home.

From what I have heard a Bachelor's degree is nothing in Naija and I go still struggle find better job, so I have decided to save money and go back to Uni for a masters degree. I plan on doing a Finance postgraduate degree (I am more interested in Finance than Law), I also am in the process of taking my CFA exams here (without being patronizing for those that don't know that stands for Chartered Financial Analyst), I hope to have finished level 3 in the next 18 months, I also will be studying for an IMC (Investment Managers Certificate).

So in 2 years I hope to become a CFA (certificate holder prior to full charter) and have an IMC including a masters degree in Finance and Management (from a good UK uni).

As you can see, I would have garnered no relevant work experience as I have never worked in any finance related jobs.

My question is how will this affect my employment prospects back home ?

I intend to work as an investment analyst or assest manager but every single job offers in assest management firms are looking for people with 5-10 years experience in the industry. Are there no graduate entries in Assest management Firms ?

What do you guys suggest I do as I would be 26 when I finish my Masters and other qualifications.

Finally, with a masters degree and all, how much should I be reasonably expect to receive ??

Sorry for the long winded message, I would appreciate a reply.
