The Chadian President, Idris Derby, Monday, made a volte face as he said that he does not know the where about of the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau. President Derby had in a widely circulated claim said some months ago that he knew where the Boko Haram leader was hiding and had warned him to surrender or risked being killed by Chadian forces. But speaking with state House correspondents after meeting with President Jonathan, President Derby said even if he knew where the terrorist was, he would not say where he is. “I cannot tell you today that I know where Shekau is hiding and even if I knew I won’t tell you” he said tersely in an answer to a question. President Derby hinted that the inability of the Nigerian and Chadian army to carry out joint operations may have affected the success of the on going operations in the North east to tackle Boko Haram. “Is regrettable that the two armies that is the Nigerian army and the Chadian Army are working separating in the field, they are not undertaking joint operation. If they were operating joint operation probably they would have achieved more results” he said. He said he was in the Presidential Villa to consult with President Jonathan on the fight against terrorism and to congratulate him for setting a good record for Africa by conceding defeat in the just concluded election. http:// www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/i-dont-know-where-shekau-is-chadian-president/ |

After being credited for fueling the Xenophobic attacks in South Africa, Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini has been persuaded into acting after a series of meetings with provincial and national government leaders. Zwelithini’s call on foreigners to pack their bags and leave is what reportedly started the wanthon attacks onAfrican immigrants in the country . According to City Press Members of the ANC provincial executive this week, called for the king to be asked to address the public directly in an effort to defuse the situation. Zwelithini has now called an imbizo in Durban for tomorrow, where he is expected to call for an end to xenophobic attacks. The imbizo, at which the king will address the province’s traditional leaders and their subjects, will be held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium at 10am. This is coming after more than a week of efforts by national and provincial ministers to convince the monarch to publicly call for peace following his controversial comments in Phongola late last month, which are regarded as having triggered the violence. President Jacob Zuma, who cancelled his trip to Indonesia to deal with the crisis, yesterday paid a visit to the Chatsworth refugee centre in Durban, where mainly Malawians, Zimbabweans and Mozambicans have been accommodated since being driven out of their homes. He told the foreigners that government was not forcing them to go, but would provide transport to repatriate those who wanted to leave. Those who wanted to stay, he said, would get help to return to their communities. “We are not fighting with you as government. Not every South African is saying you must go. It is a small number of people who want you to go,” President Zuma said. “We want us to live as sister and brother.” Last week, as pressure increased on him to retract his words or apologise, the king dug in his heels and blamed the media instead.
