Omijin: I went to a federal hospital to remove a tooth.. I did removed one tooth in a private hospital and it was simple and painless. In the hospital, while the doctor was removing the tooth half of it got broken deep down in the gum. The doctor told me that I needed to do xray to know where the remain was hiding. Unfortunately for me I came all alone, the hospital is a very big place, it took me like 15 minutes to trek from dentist area to where I'm to make payment of 1000 naira. When I got there, the que was really much. I waited for like 20 minutes before getting to me. After that, it took me another 10 minutes to go to the place I'm to convert the payment receipt to another paper before heading back to the dentist area. They took the xray, the checked it, Told me to lie down on the bed again, he started removing the remaining, he was using one particular electrical tool like that. One pointed tool like that. Suddenly, the light went off, the doctor asked what happened to the light. A nurse came in to tell him that, the person that supposed to sign to allow the generator to remain on longer than usual is not around. The doctor could not say anything, he had to use another tool manually to complete the removal. After everything, the doctor was telling me that, tooth removal is not always that difficult. In my mind, I was like. No bi you go tell me. Something I did in a private hospital with very little machine or tools but higher bill and it was smooth which what motivated me to do another one. Since that day I lost interest and respect for government hospitals. How can any normal person turn off the generator, when you know that the doctor is in the surgery room. That made me to conclude that, nonchalant behavior, carelessness, lack of proper communication or understanding among the workers are responsible for 30% deaths in Nigerian hospitals. Its true sha. Once saw a woman bled to death during operation cause the relatives had to be tested( HIV test, HCV, blood group etc.) before donating blood, something that should be done before starting the operation |
