Yesss!!!! I watched when the bough breaks, and I can't help but to admire him also. He's tallness, male masculinity and dark skin colour is just so tempting...

Speaking of the movie, do you think that girl deserve that type of death? I mean, Yes! she's a psychopath and probably insane but she's just too beautiful and that pregnancy suites her...

And, I felt like, its not easy to carry a child inside of you for nine months and at the end, you just give it out no matter how much you were paid!!

No caring mother will do that!
But then, its business..
It was business. My own problem with her was not even wanting to keep the baby. It was that she wanted to steal Regina Hall husband. As in, is she mad?

The part when she wore that red dress made me spark.

Yeah, I think I can relate to writing about a character and their quality... It is difficult to describe a particular character, most especially the hero or heroine with disfigured face or so.. People easily relate with a beautiful or handsome hero or heroine. But that doesn't mean you can't add a disfigured person in the group. I get bored reading about beautiful people all day long.

About how you picture your male characters, I must say I'm thrilled.. Morris chestnut kiss
God, that guy is smooth.

At least, the characters he portrays are. I loved him in Four Brothers, The Best Man and when I saw him in When The Bough Breaks, I think I fell in love again. He's kind of the kind of middle aged man you'd want to have an affair with.

He and Regina Hall were like my couple goals. Except for the barrenness part.

Rosanna picked up her handbag and looked at her room for the last time. She sighed and said goodbye to the lavender toned room. She would most probably never see it again. Nothing would bring her back to Nigeria. Maybe Seyifunmi’s wedding. But nothing pertaining to her dad. The man still chose not to accept Dare. The thought of it made he angry. She stormed out of the room and came face to face with her father.
She looked at him in anticipation. Maybe he had decided to accept Dare. A small smile of hope crossed her lips.
“You’re leaving?”, he said slowly.
“Yes.”, she replied with her hope dwindling.
“Safe journey, then.”, he said.
“Yeah. Good bye, Dad.”, she said and left with her eyes shimmering with tears. She blinked them back and scolded herself. Her father never looked back and she wouldn’t. She walked out of the house to the car waiting. The driver Dare sent over was waiting by the door and opened it for her. She was shocked when she saw Dare in the car.
“Dare!”, she said as she entered.
“Hey. How are you doing?”, he asked and took her hand in his. The land with the pear morganite engagement ring he gave her.
“Fine. I’m ready.”
“I still wish I could give you the traditional wedding you wanted.”, he said despondent.
“Hey.”, she said and lifted his dropping chin. “Id give up the world for you. I don’t mind if we say our vows in a cowshed so long as you are there. Nothing else matters.”
“Your father’s blessings are important. I still feel we should wait.” She sighed.
“Im not waiting anymore to be with you. Do you know how long I’ve wanted to be your wife? You make me happy and I won’t give that up for anything. Not for my dad. Besides, my mum is in support of this wedding.”, she said and kissed him lightly. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”

She opened her handbag to bring out her passport and ticket. She couldn’t find them.
“Ma’am?”, the airline operator said.
“Im sorry. I’m sure I put it in here.”, Rosanna said as she rummaged for them in her bag.
“Rosanna, what’s going on?”, Dare asked perplexed.
“Ma'am, I’m going to have to ask you to step out of the line.”, the operator said.
“Abi!”, the couple behind them shouted.
“Them no them dey come airport, they no carry passport.”, one woman said.
Rosanna groaned in embarrassment and stepped out of the line.
“Are you certain you put it in your bag?”, Dare asked.
“Of course. I took it out of the brown Chanel bag and…”, she groaned and stamped her feet. “Seyifunmi borrowed my Louis Vuitton. She must have taken the passport together with her things.”
“Let me give her a call.”, Dare said.
“Will she make it on time? I don’t want us to miss our flight.”, she cried.
“Shh.”, he pacified and hugged her. “We can always get another flight. What matters is that we’re together.”
She smiled.

Your thoughts reminded of something I watched on Jenna Moreci's YouTube channel.

She asked the same question and she frankly answered the question beautifully.

Beautiful people are easier to imagine but the advice she gave writers is to balance it out. Not everyone in the book can be beautiful.

I personally feel beautiful people are easier to write about. Writing about disfigured or ugly people is quite difficult because apart from the quirk they have, if you want to be realistic, you have to write about their psychological insecurities and how it affects their behavior.

It inspired me to start a work about an MC with a scar on his face. And so far, it's been challenging.

....

You also mentioned the pretty guys you picture. If I can share mine... They are majorly men from different movie industries

Idris Elba, Morris Chestnut, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Hrthik Roshan, John Abraham, Shah Rukh Khan, Xi'an Lim, Daniel Padilla,

These are the ones I can remember now.

Délé stared out the window thinking about what Seyifunmi said earlier in the day. A smile crossed his lips. She loved him? Was she serious or she was just playing around? He didn’t take words lightly. He shook his head and decided she was just joking around. He wouldn’t put it past her. He’d leave things the way they were. He’d keep his real feelings to himself. She didn’t have to know how much he loved her. He really wished she meant it.
The blare of the intercom interrupted his thoughts. He sat up in his chair and tapped a button to receive the call.
“Yes, Teni?”, he said as he sorted through the files on his desk.
“Sir, there’s a Mrs. Ige and a Mr. Adewunmi here to see you.”, she said.
“From which company? I don’t recall having an appointment today.”, he said.
“Sir, you don’t and they aren’t from clients. They insist the reason they’re here is important and confidential.”, Teni said. “Do I let them in?”
“I hope they aren’t for some charity organization. They should go to the CSR department.” Teni paused for a while and he heard voices underneath.
“Sir, they say they aren’t.”
“Fine, let them in.”, he said and hung up. Ige and Adewunmi. He didn’t know any Adewunmi. The only Ige he knew was his father. This was a woman. Probably just a coincidence.
The door opened and he looked up. He saw Teni lead in an elderly woman and a young man. The woman was wearing a green lace caftan and her hair was covered with a matching lace scarf with a small heeled slippers. The young man was wearing a simple polo shirt on jeans with Derby shoes. They were to causal to be on business or representing an NGO. He hoped they weren’t one of those 'support our ministry' louts.
“Good afternoon.”, he greeted and stood to shake them.
“Good afternoon, Délé.”, the woman said. His raised his brow as he sat. He didn’t know the woman. Why would she call him Dele?
“Im sorry. I don’t know these faces. And yet you called me Délé. That’s awfully weird.”, he said and reclined in his seat. He watched them exchange a look of trepidation. What were they hiding?
“Do I know you two? Or am I supposed to?”
The woman cleared her throat and the man sighed. They kept quiet and irritation spurred within him. Did they come to waste his time?
“Look, I was quite busy before you came in. You told my secretary it was important and confidential.”, he said, hoping they would say something.
“Wo, baba oko mi.”, the woman said as she descended to her knees.
Surprise shot through him. “Madam, please stand up.”
“Please, let me remain this way.”
“Please, tell your mother to stand up.”, he said. The young man rather than do what he asked join the woman on the floor in a prostration.
“What is the meaning of this? I asked you to state why you’re here. Instead, you go on your knees.”, he said and stood. “Please stand up. Please. E ma so mi l'enu. Mummy, e dide.”
“Wo, Bámidélé. I am not in the position to be here but I am because I am desperate. Ina n no mi l'abe aso. That is why I’m here.”, the woman said in tears.
“Oya, mummy e dide. Stand up first. If it within my power, I will help you. Just stand up, please.”, he said. Seeing the woman before him was like seeing his mother before him on her knees crying.
“Ose.”, she said and sat on the chair she was on. The guy stood too.
“Okay. So, who are you and what exactly do you want me to do for you?”, he said.
“I am Mrs. Funlola Ige and I am your uncle’s wife. Your cousin was diagnosed of leukemia and we need a bone marrow donor…”
“So you want me to donate my bone marrow?”, he said.
“I know it’s too much to ask…”
“It’s more than too much to ask. Madam, I respect your age and the fact you knelt before me. Seriously, had I known who you were I would have never allowed you in.”
“Please. I know we don’t know each other but we are family…”
“Please ma, don’t get me angry. We are not family. My last name is Daramola not Ige. How can we be family? God will provide a donor for your daughter and heal her. I can’t help you. Please leave my office.”
“Please, we’ve come all the way from Abuja.”, the man said.
“I could care less if you’ve come from the North Pole. It is none of my business. Especially not after your father did to my mother. Please, I don’t want be crass and rude by threatening you with calling security. I beg you to stand up and leave with the two legs you came in with.”, Dele said and stood. He pointed at the door. “The door is that way. Don’t let it hit you on your way out.”
The woman stood reluctantly with the young man and left his office. Délé hissed and called Teni.
“Sir?”
“Teni, never let them back into my office.”, he put in and hung up.

Felicia cried till she could cry no more. She sat on the floor by her vanity, wondering what to do. Why wouldn’t the Lord just say something? Why did He allow for this rift? Why did Jaiyé want to seek out her father? The man had almost succeeded in tearing them apart. Did Jaiyé want to give room for that to happen again?
Why didn’t she have a witness in her spirit about what Jaiyé wanted to do? Jaiyé was wrong. He was probably just motivated by guilt. He didn’t have to feel guilty. What they did was a trivial as a simple offence whereas her father’s crime was worse than a felony. She sobbed harder. Jaiyé wanted to take her children away from her. She could picture the custody battle. It would be gory and bloody. Jaiyé's doggedness and shrewdness when it came to his clients' cases was phenomenal. What would happen when he was fighting for his children? He wouldn’t fight fair. He would hit her below the belt if he needed to.
What was she going to do? Her father was a diabolical man. If they sought him out, she could swear he’d use it as an opportunity to finish what he started. If Jaiyé became the monster he was before, she’d die. Dapo would grow up believing that was the proper way to treat a woman. Goosebumps covered her skin as she pictured being beaten up and raped by Jaiyé again. She sobbed again. Her skin crawled at the thought of it. She began to feel a reminding pain in her stomach from the numerous times he punched her belly. Her ears rang from the gazillion times he slapped her. Her lungs burned from the time he tried to waterboard her. Her inner thighs hurt from the times he forced himself on her. And her soul cried from the times he broke her heart.
She couldn’t relive that. The torture and agony was too much to bear twice in a lifetime. If she left him, he would hunt her down and take her children away from her.
God, do something.
“Anything.”, she cried and whimpered. She remembered the murderous glint in his eyes earlier. It was as though he wanted to rip her head from her body. She heard the door creak open and fear drowned her. What if her father’s charm never really stopped working. What if it was abated for a while and it had now resumed efficacy and the old Jaiyé was back. She looked around her for something to defend herself and she picked up a scissors from her vanity. She clutched it and hid it behind her. Her chest rose and fell in enormous trepidation and adrenaline was released into her system. Her endocrine system working relentlessly charging her blood with fight-or-flight hormone.
Self-defense wasn’t murder, right? Jaiyé himself had told her that. If he made a move, she’d stab him in the gut and go and pick up her son and get away from there. Her firm had an office in Calabar so shed head there. Jaiyé already knew she was in contact with Ose and would first try to look for her in Lagos. Calabar was her safest bet.
“Felicia.”, Jaiyé called as he entered the room. She clutched the scissors tighter despite her sweaty hands slackening her grip.
“Felicia?”, he asked as he headed towards the en suit. He knocked softly on the door and opened it. When he saw it was empty, he turned to face her direction and he saw her. Her system produced more adrenaline and she clutched the scissors tighter and her nails stabbed her palm but she didn’tcare. She had to be prepared.
“Fel, I…Felicia, I’m sorry.”, he said as he walked closer to her.
She shook her head. He was deceiving her.
Jaiyé closed the gap between them and knelt before her pathetic curled up form. “Baby, I’m sorry. I was mad and I wasn’t thinking straight.”
Felicia’s hand slackened momentarily and relief washed through her. She sobbed and cried at the thought that she had been prepared to maim her husband all in fear of the unknown. The words of new pastor’s wife at the fortnightly women’s prayer meeting rung in her ears. The woman had quoted the Message translation of first Peter chapter four verse eight.
Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything.
The Lord Himself had told that there was no fear in perfect love. How could she claim to love Jaiyé and be so afraid of him to the point of contemplating killing him?
She bowed her head onto her knees and wailed loudly. Jaiyé touched her arm and begged. He probably thought she was upset because of his threat earlier. How could she be? What did she do to deserve such a loving and God-fearing husband. She was the one who threatened him first and if he retaliated it wasn’t inhuman. But here he was apologising. Was God sure Jaiyé needed a wife like her? Jaiyé deserved better. He was too good to be stuck with such a fearful wife.
“Felicia, please, stop crying. I know I hurt you and I’m sincerely sorry.”, he pleaded.
She looked up at him and she tried to speak but her throat was too sob-bitten to left her speak. She knelt in front of him and hugged him. “I-I-I a-am sorry too.”, she croaked and sobbed again.
“Stop crying, please.”, Jaiyé said and hugged her back.
“Jaiye, I’m sorry. I’m just scared. Jaiyé, I’m scared. There’s so much fear in me that I can’t take it anymore.”, she cried.
“We’ll surrender it to the Lord. Stop crying. It won’t solve anything. Only the Lord will.”, he said and stroked her hair. “Stoo crying.” Her sobs reduced till they were little whimpers and Jaiyé held her through it all.

Jaiyé caught his fingers trembling and he clenched his fists. They still shook and he hid them behind his head so as not to see them. He felt them anyway.
“God…God… God, please.”, he sobbed. “Please, take it away from me.” He knelt down and bowed on the cold floor of his study. Sobs racked him. He clamped his hands together yet they still trembled
His rage was back and he didn’t want it. Not after all the damage it had caused in his life. He had almost lost his chance be a lawyer. The Character and Fitness Board had got wind of an incident that happened in his third year of the university. He had almost strangled a hostel mate to death. Somehow the in his room had been able to pry him off the boy. The board had almost decided him to be unfit. He and his CLASFON brethren had interceded day and night, even his parents and siblings had fasted for him, they all prayed for God to intervene. And He did.
After that incident, he swore of his rage. Since Felicia’s outburst in the morning, he felt it coming back. He felt rage flow in in streams and tonight, hearing her on the phone with Ose, it engulfed him. She’d take his children away? It enraged him. And she had begun making plans? The beast came back. He could feel it snapping its jaws, roaring and hungry, wanting to vent and to destroy something.
“God, help me. Please, I don’t want it. Please…. Please, take it away.”, he shouted, not giving a damn that it was dark.
“Please.”, he whimpered and sobbed. He could still feel the ravening hunger and anger to destroy. “No, no, no!”, he shouted and slammed his fists on the cold tiles. He was at his wit’s end and hanging unto his sanity by a thread. His mind kept on nudging him to pick up his chair and slam it against the wall.
Do it. The evil, guttural voice said.
“No!”, Jaiye sobbed. “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.”, he cried. He knew if he gave in he’d be servant to his rage again.
You know you want to. Do it. The voice seduced again.
“Please, God.”, Jaiyé whispered as his trembling hands grew uncontrollable. He could feel himself rise, not of His own will but as a submissive to the monster in him. Just as He stood on his knees, he felt a slow wind blow in his mind and heart and he could feel the monster no more.
Jaiyeolaoluwa.
Jaiyé sobbed his appreciation and gratitude. He knew what could have happened had the Lord not intervened.
How long do the you want to keep destroying my work?
Lord, I try. I try not to give in, not to surrender to the rage but…
I am not talking about your rage. The rage you refused to surrender to me.
Lord, I…
For thirteen years, I’ve asked you to give me your rage but you hold back.
Jaiyé was perplexed. He didn’t want his rage. He would gladly give it to God if he knew how.
You refused to accept your problem. You put on a façade in interacting with people, relying on human mechanisms to take away your rage. Why didn’t you call on the men you trusted in to help you tonight?
Jaiyé cried and sobbed. “Lord, I’m sorry.” He didn’t realize he hadn’t trusted God for his rage. When the Lord had told him to surrender his rage, Jaiye had thought he meant forgetting his rage and leaving it behind. He decided to read books on how to control one’s rage. He never really asked the Lord for help.
Jaiyeolaoluwa, I asked you a question. How long do the you want to keep destroying my work?
Lord, I’m sorry. I will surrender…
I said I wasn’t talking about the rage. You and Felicia are destroying the work I have set to do in this family, in this household. How long will you arrive with me?
Jaiyé realised then the plurality of the you. “God, I spoke to Felicia about what you asked of me.”
And I sent you to deliver a message to her. I didn’task you to threaten her.
Lord, my rage…
When I instructed that you marry her, revealing my will unto you, I knew what I was doing. Never forget, that your life, your marriage inclusive is for the ultimate goal of the salvation of your soul. Felicia was the perfect instrument, designed from the beginning of the world, to help you with your rage. And you Jaiyé were to help her with her fears and insecurities and unforgiveness. Everyday I build and everyday, you remove the blocks and bricks I have laid. Why?
Lord, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize.
I understand. Jaiyé, guard your heart and marriage. Guard your home. You are my vicar in this household. My bishop. I am building this family as my instrument and battle-ax to destroy the works of the adversary, even in this country. Trials will come. If you do not stand guard, this family will be broken apart piece by piece and the adversary will have won. Jaiyé, my words do not return to me void. I am promised but you have to live up to your side of the promise.
Apologise to Felicia.
“What?!”, Jaiyé said.
Jaiyé.
“She won’t respect me. She will take me for granted..”
Is that what you think or what your ridiculous pride thinks? Apologise to your wife.
Jaiyé sighed and prayed in submission.

Seyifunmi groaned as she turned to face the bright backlight of Délé’s laptop. She winced and said,”Hey.”
“Did I wake you up?”, he asked as he stared down at her. She didn’t know why he enjoyed sleeping shirtless but it created as nice view for her. One would think she would have gotten used to his rippling pectorals by now. She looked up at him and met a goofy smile on his face. “You this girl. You treat me like eye candy.” He shook his head and continued typing.
“Baby, I don’t do candy, you’re my soul food.”, she said with her voice all raspy. He chuckled lightly and shook his head again. “How are you feeling?”, he asked as he looked through some documents and continued typing.
She cleared her throat and then croaked, “I feel a lot better but my voice is still horrible.”
“It’s horrendous.”, he corrected and she pouted in mock annoyance and he laughed as he turned to look at her. “You’re cute when you do that.”
“I was going for boiling mad.”, she said.
“Try again.”, he kidded and continued typing. She sat up and peered to look at the screen of his laptop. He seemed to be writing a report on the assets he was managing on behalf of Tinu’s children. A drop of jealousy fell on her heart. Tinu was no doubt a beautiful woman. Délé had taken her with him to greet the twins on their birthday the other day. While Temi looked somehow like Délé but not exactly, she could see Tinú in the little girl. Seeing the little girl, she couldn’t help but feel jealous. If Tinú got out of prison, Dele and her would have to interact not only because of the twins but because they were co-trustees. Would Délé fall in love with her? She was the mother of his children and… She shook her head. No more insecurities. She smiled as she remembered the day Dele said he didn’t like the sound of Miss Aladesuyi. Was he going to do something about it? Why hadn’t he done something about it? Was their relationship even heading anywhere? About two years and she hadn’t been elevated to the status of the love of his life or fiancee. She was still at the girlfriend level and he had never told her he loved her.
Ose said a man wouldn’t say what he didn’t mean. If he hadn’t said he loved her, was it because he didn’t love her? Does I’m crazy about you mean the same thing as I love you? Dare said some men needed to be coaxed into saying it, that some don’t realize the name of the emotion they are feeling until they are told.
“Penny for your thoughts.”, he said. “I can hear you thinking.”
She smiled and said, “Nothing. I just remembered a code I was working on.”
He turned to look at her and said, “You need help?”
“Nah. I’m a big girl. I’ll figure it out. Thanks anyway.”, she said and held his hand and kissed it.
“Mushy much.”, he teased smiling.
“I just love you so much.”, she said with her heart on the cap sleeves of her pyjamas.
“Are you going for corny, now?”, he said and she heard the shattering of glass. That was her heart that just broke. “Go to bed. Remember you have a department meeting tomorrow by seven thirty.”, he said and kissed her hand and extricated it from her loose grip.

Was it because of Daddy Mummy ran away then? If Daddy beats Mummy, why did she come back?
He didn’t want anything to happen to his mother. If she was going again, would she take him? Why were they fighting? Who was the monster Mummy was talking about? Was it Daddy? He wished everything would be normal and they would be happy again. Somehow, he doubted they would be happy again. Is it because they fought that Daddy didn’t come down for prayer?
God, please, help.
He loved his father and mother and he wanted them to be happy. He didn’t want his daddy beating his mummy.
God, please.
✴✴✴✴✴✴✴✴✴✴✴✴✴✴✴
Felicia picked up the call and walked in the bathroom.
“Hello.”, she said quietly.
“Felicia, I saw your text and the alert. Don’t tell me that bastard has started beating you again. I warned you not to go back with him but all you spirikoko people. You will be saying God told you. Now, look what has happened.”, Ose shouted in anger.
Felicia kept mum and sighed. She couldn’t blame Ose. She had no one else to turn to. She heard him breathe in and out. “Felicia, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. Please don’t worry about a place to stay. You and Dapo can stay with me. My house is your house. Just please, don’t let that bastard hurt you. You and your son are my family. Please just get away from him.”
“Ose, I understand. Please just send me the information on the school you told me about. I don’t want Dapo to stop his school for anything. He is already behind by a year. Thank you for everything Ose. I really appreciate it.”, she said.
“No problem, coz. Say me well to Dapo.”, Ose replied and hung up. She rested against the wash hand basin. “God, please help me.”
She left the bathroom and met Jaiye sitting on the bed with a murderous glare in his eyes. The air in her lungs escaped and her heart raced in fear.
“Since when have you been there?”, she asked perturbed as she walked to the vanity. “How is Dapo?” She was going to play it cool. She wouldn’t give herself away by letting her fear show.
“When I met you, you were young in Christ but your growth rate was exceptional. I mean the Holy Spirit started speaking to you almost as soon as you gave your life. Even some people who’ve Christians for years cannot boast of hearing the Lord audibly. When we started courting, you wouldn’ttake any step without hearing from the Lord. Felicia, you’d stand me up if you didn’tget a go ahead to go out with me. I didn’t mind. I took it in stride and somehow your zeal and hunger for a relationship with the Lord impressed me. Honestly, I didn’t know why the Lord would ask me to marry a baby but when I met you , you challenged me. You inspired a new hunger in me for the Lord.”
“I know I made a grievous mistake and I killed your faith in the Lord when I agreed to what you suggested then. I was so stupid and the Lord is still showing me the error of my ways. Felicia, you’ve become something else. The Felicia I knew seven years ago would ask the Lord to explain to her, to make her understand if it was His will. Look, I didn’twake up yesterday and the though hit me. The Lord had laid it I my heart for months but I decided to pray for the wisdom to handle it. What I did to your father was disgraceful at the least. I didn’t pay your bride price to him, I didn’t seek his blessings. He had every right to do what he did. I will apologise and restitute whether you want me to or not.”
He glare intensified and his tone hardened. “ But Felicia listen to me. If you try to take my children away from me, you will see a Jaiye unlike any other. If you thought I was a monster before, I was a puppy compared to what I will do for my children. I will sue for custody and trust me, when I am in the court, especially for something I am passionate about, I take no prisoners.” He paused and stood to walk close to her fear gripped form. “Look me eyeball to eyeball and read my lips. I am not threatening you. I am promising you. If you try anything funny, you will lose both me and our three children and you will never set your eyes on us for as long as you live. So whatever plans you have will Ose, you better pull the plugs on them.”, he said and walked out of the room.
Felicia’s straight back curved as she bent over and wept.

Jaiyé watched Dapo brush his teeth without any enthusiasm. No songs, no gist and no jabbering. He felt embarrassed and heartsick when he met his son standing behind them. The boy rinsed his mouth and brush and walked past him to his bed. He got in by himself and mumbled a goodnight sir and turned on his side with his back to his father.
He wondered if his son saw him as a monster now with all the things Felicia was shouting. He walked to the bed and tried to touch his son. He stretched out his hand and a few inches from the boy's body he stopped. How was he supposed to explain everything to a seven year old? Would he understand? He heard a soft sniffle and his sick heart died. He got his lip to jolt himself from the heart wrenching pain of hearing his son cry. The taste of blood did nothing to stop the feeling of anguish in him.
“Dapo?”, he called with a cracking voice and he cleared his throat.
“Sir?”, his son’s quivering voice answered.
Jaiyé blinked back a few tears and sat on the bed. His pain became immeasurable as the boy moved farther away from him. He lost his words. “Erm… are you okay?”
“Yes, sir.”, the boy said coldly and sniffled.
Jaiyé didn’t know what to say. He wanted to reach out to touch but he was afraid of his son's reaction. Would the boy recoil from his touch? He wouldn’t be able to stand that.
His throat stung with tears and cleared it to assuage the pain but it remained. His son sniffled again and the soft sting became a gash. “Dapo, I want you to know that I love you so much.”
“Hmmn.”, the boy replied.
Jaiyé thought he couldn’t feel any worse but the response his son gave him he felt a hundred times worse. He stood and left the room.
When he heard the door shut, Dapo sobbed and cried his heart out. He never knew his father was one of those kinds of men. He remembered a Christian movie he watched at his grandpa’s house. The man used to beat his wife and she ran away.

Jaiyé walked into the house and met Felicia deboning fish for Dapo. The boy screamed Daddy and ran to hug him. His anger thawed momentarily. He loved seeing the joy in his son’s eyes whenever he returned from work. It meant that he was loved by his son.
“Daddy, welcome.”, the boy said and collected his briefcase and jacket from him.
“How was school today?”, Jaiye asked.
“Fine. Tèmí and Tóminí's birthday was today. Their aunty brought cake and they shared a lot of snacks. Mummy said I can take the biscuits to school tomorrow.”, Dapo said ecstatic.
“Okay then. Go and drop these upstairs. Thank you.”, Jaiyé said and walked to the dining.
Felicia looked at him and said nothing. She went into the kitchen and brought out a plate and laid it on the table.
“Are you eating semo or spaghetti?”, she said as she stood by the dishes ready to serve his food.
“What is wrong with you?”,. Jaiyé said irritated.
“Look, Jaiyeola, I have no time for this. What do you want to eat?”, she said and crossed her arms. He felt so angry at her sassy attitude. He took a deep breath and tried to calm down. If he vented at her, she would hate herself.
“Why didn’t you return my calls?”, he stated simply.
“I thought it was obvious. I didn’t want to talk to you. Jaiyé, are you eating or not?”, she said
“Since when did I become someone you decide to talk to when you want to?”, he replied.
She huffed and walked to him. “Since you decided to let a monster tear our marriage apart again. What is your problem Jaiyé? No. I want to understand. We’ve been together for months now. We’re happy and you want to ruin it. Please leave the devil alone where he is”
Jaiyé hissed. “You know what? Sometimes I feel like I don’t know you. You’re not the woman I married.”
“Of course I’m not. The Felicia you married died with all the torture you put me through, with all the beating and rapes. I’m a different woman. I have a defense mechanism now. I will not wait for you to come back and start beating me again. If you want to go and apologise, go ahead. But I will not be here when you return.”, she shouted.
Jaiyé bit his tongue to hold back his retort and turned to see their son standing behind them with tears in his eyes.

We can’t find him.”, Lydia said. “Donald, I’m sorry. I don’t know where he went to. I went to get groceries and the next thing, I couldn’t find him. Please, forgive me.”, she cried and wiped her cheek.
Donald stuttered saying incoherent words. Elsa wanted to hold him and tell him to calm down but Donald just walked out of the shop.
“Daddy, should I still bring the biscuits?”, the attendant shouted. Elsa told him no and pulled a dazed and crying Lydia out of the shop. They met Donald by his car, removing his jacket, wristwatch, cufflinks and shoes. He dumped them all in the back seat of his car. He pulled out a pair of slippers from the back of his car and locked the vehicle. He began walking, shouting for Robert with every step he took.
Elsa’s eyes watered at the sight. What would Donald do if he didn’t find Robert? Elsa tried not to think about it and hoped they would find him.

Felicia tucked the envelope of money deep inside her handbag and dialed Ose's number again. She was already making her preparations. If Jaiyé was going to be stupid enough to go and apologise to her father then she wasn’t going to stick around enough for whatever charm her father would use on him to be experimented on her. She would take Dapo this time and flee. She had warned Jaiyé the first time not to trust her father but he did and she was the one who paid the price. Not this time. If Jaiyé came back to beat the furniture in the house then all well and good. It wouldn’t be her.
She had already wired some money to Ose. If the time came, he’d use the money to get her an apartment. As for schools, she had already asked Ose to help her find an inexpensive but quality school for Dapo. She’d probably have to get multiple jobs and take on a few free-lance jobs but she didn’t mind. She wouldn’t be the first woman to singlehandedly raise children.
Ose didn’t pick the call and groaned in frustration. Had he received the alert or what? She decided to call him later. She got back to typing her letter requesting for a transfer back to the Lagos branch of FDL publishing. Her phone rang and she checked the caller ID. It was Jaiyé. Why was he calling her? To convince her to go her father’s? Didn’t he hear her loud and clear? She rejected the call again.
A few minutes later, her phone dinged at the arrival of a text message. It was from Jaiyé.
Are you rejecting my calls? I don’t want to believe you are. Felicia, call me back.
For a lawyer, he was a bit slow. Of course, she was rejecting his calls. She didn’t want to talk to him, so why would she call him back? She hissed and saved her letter.
Felicia.
Not now. Her entire soul screamed. She wasn’t going to apologise to her father. He was her father for crying out loud. And he deliberately set her up for such a horrendous life. Weren’t parents supposed to love their children unconditionally? She didn’t think there was anything Dapo could do to make her so angry enough to do evil to him. She wouldn’t apologise. Over her dead body. If she had died by the hands of Jaiyé or trying to deliver her stillborn daughter? What then? She didn’t have a father o. And she wasn’t apologising to anyone.
Felicia.
Not now. Her heart said and the voice in her quietened till there was a deafening silence.

Elsa panted as she waited for the shop attendant to get her a bottle of water. They had scouted half the estate but no one had seen Robert. Donald had been invited to give a speech at a conference. He would be back anytime soon. She didn’t want to think of what would happen if they hadn’t found Robert by the time he returned. Donald didn’t just call Robert his baby for nothing. He believed Robert was a chance to raise a baby. He had gotten him as a puppy and took care of him till date. If anything happened to Robert, Donald might not recover.
“Iwo da?”, Elsa shouted to hasten up the attendant. She turned to Lydia. The woman was already chewing on her manicured nails. She was afraid Donald would hate her for losing Robert. Elsa wanted to tell her to calm down but Elsa herself wasn’t calm. She worried about how Donald would take the news. He’d the devastated.
“Sorry, ma. I wanted to get a very chilled bottle.”, the young man explained and handed the bottle to her. She paid him in change and immediately broke the seal and opened the bottle. As she was about to down the water, she heard her name and then Lydia’s. She knew who the voice belonged to. A shiver worked its way down her body and her mouth went dry. She drank her water. She would rather face him with her thirst quenched than with thirst tearing at her throat. She capped the bottle and then noticed the woman beside her quivering in fear.
“D-D-Donnie. You’re back so early.”, Lydia stated.
“I left after I gave my speech. I remembered Robert has a seven o'clock appointment at the vet's tomorrow. I decided to come home early and rest.” He then turned to the shop attendant. “ Hey, you. Please give me one pack of that dog biscuit usually buy”
He smiled at Lydia. “I was given some food at the conference. Maybe we could eat it together at your place before I leave with Robert.” He said in a low tone.
Elsa wondered how long this would last.
“Donnie, I have something to tell you. I… I am… I’m so sorry but Robert is missing.”, she spat out and ripped the band-aid off.
Elsa watched Donald’s smile dissolve. He blinked repeatedly. “What do you mean by missing?”, he asked with his voice dull and full of fear.
“We can’t find him.”, Lydia said. “Donald, I’m sorry. I don’t know where he went to. I went to get groceries and the next thing, I couldn’t find him. Please, forgive me.”, she cried and wiped her cheek

I want to say I hate you but I can't.....

Where is our update?

You cut it off at the interesting part. Well, we are patiently waiting.

Mr. Adakole is totally the kind of Gillian I like. He reminds me of those Mexican hacienda owners stopping their sons from falling in love with a farm worker. Or if you've watched Ikaw Lamang, Don Maximo. I like that it's a man and not a woman. Antagonistic mothers are overused

I don't think you did Jameel justice by using Timini. In my head, he is much hotter.

Please, Timini fans don't kill me. I'm just saying.

But I guess I'll keep working with the guy in my head. I think I've totally switched up the races of the characters but I blame it on way too much foreign telenovelas. God help my soul.

I love this work and somehow you remind me of me. I want to be like you when I grow up sha.

Please don't leave us waiting. Love you dear.

Elsa grudgingly stood as the door bell rang. She had always told Omotunde to take the key with her whenever she was going out. Regina gooed at the sound of the door and Elsa smiled and gooed back at her and the girl giggled. Elsa laughed as she walked to the door. She opened the door and came face to face with a sweaty Lydia. Her brows were furrowed and she was panting. Did she jog all the way here?
“Good afternoon. Donald isn’t here. Are you okay?”, she asked in genuine concern.
“I know Donald isn’t here. Please, did… by any chance, is Robert here?”, Lydia asked with her voice quivering.
“No.”, Elsa said and Lydia’s face crumpled. “Is he missing?”
“I left him to get some groceries and when I got back he wasn’t in the house anymore. I’ve looked everywhere. If Donald finds out, he’ll hate me.”, she said crying.
“Calm down. Robert doesn’t stray. He likes to play hide and seek. Have you checked all the rooms in your house.”, Elsa said.
“Yes. I’ve asked everyone in my block but no one has seen him. He’s a white sheepdog. How could no one have seen him?”, Lydia sobbed.
“Will you wait so I can put the baby in the stroller? Then we can go and look for him.”, Elsa offered.
“You’ll help me look for him?”, the woman said bewildered.
“Of course.”
In the next five minutes, Elsa called Omotunde and got the baby ready for a long stroll. As they got out of the building, they met Omotunde returning. Elsa handed the baby to her and asked her to take her upstairs and went on with the search.

Rosanna looked up at the sound of her door opening and saw her step mum. She smiled and greeted the lady. She barely saw her these days. She sat up and looked expectantly at her. When she was younger she loathed the woman and blamed her for her father’s refusal to return but as she grew she realized that the woman came into the picture much later.
“Rose, can we talk?”, the woman asked.
“Of course.”, she replied and the woman sat on the bed. Rosanna’s mind danced around thinking what the topic of the tete a tete could be.
“Rose, I know we barely know each other. And somehow, I feel it’s my fault. I was too much of a chicken. I was afraid to get close to you. I knew you didn’t like me and I was content with the cold relationship we had.”, the woman started holding Rosanna’s gaze with hers.
Rosanna imagined if she could have had a warmer relationship with her father’s wife back then and no picture could come to mind. Things were better the way they happened. Rosanna knew that if the woman had tried to force a relationship down her throat she would have gotten her hard.
“Rose, look. I’m definitely not the one hundredth person on the list of people who could give you advice but please try to make up with your father. This battle of the wills has gone on for too long. This situation isn’t an impasse. You can both try to reason together. Try to see things from his own point of view. You’re still his baby girl and he wants no harm to befall you. Besides, what elders can see while sitting, youngsters can’t see it even if they climb a tree.”, the woman said.
“I appreciate you coming here and your advice. Really. If this had been any other situation, I might have been a little willing to bend, to compromise but this isn’t about Daddy protecting me. He’s trying to control me. To make me stay with him for as long as he wants but what he doesn’t realise is that I’m grown. I can make my own decisions. And he’s turned his back on me once. Why shouldn’t I? Look, I’m living for the States tomorrow and Dare and I are getting married. If he wants to hate me, he should go ahead. If he couldn’t give up his happiness for me, I’m not going to do the same for him.”

Chapter One - The Wall

Nathan

The moment she barged into my office and slammed the door, I knew something was wrong. I could only pray she hadn't found out before I got the chance to tell her myself.
She looked pale, a ghost of her glowing self. Her beautiful big black eyes now red and swollen, long dark hair dishevelled. Her once round face and full cheeks now looked so thin. I watched her with trepidation and waited for the shell to drop but nothing came.

She moved to the opposite side of the room and glared at me like a patient who escaped from a mental institution. Scary, confused and lost. She looked so fragile in the baggy sweatpants and Tees she wore. It had to be me who did this to her, the only reason she did not run into my arms for comfort.

I moved the chair I sat on out of the large Mahogany office desk and strode towards her but she took two steps backwards and lifted her palms urging me to stop.

"Don't come any closer. I just need to hear you say it." She finally spoke. Her hand dug into her hair and made it even a bigger mess.

"Eni, why don't you sit and I'll get you something warm." I tried to pacify her.

"I did not come to see you at past seven in the morning to sit and drink tea. I just want to hear it from your mouth Nathan Adakole!" She said.

Nathan Adakole. Danger.

"I.. don't know what to say." The only sentence my mush brain could muster.

Her expression that of disbelieve.

"You don't know what to say? Won't you even try to make me understand any of this?" She asked, pointing her phone that had the news of my engagement splashed over its large screen at me. I stared at it like a strange object from space. Just how did the news get out so fast?

"I thought we had something special in spite of our differences" She continued. "After all these time together, did I not mean more than just a piece of rag to be discarded without regard?" She waited for me to speak but continued when I didn't.

"Even if I mean nothing to you, why not tell me to my face! Instead you gave me hope and made me believe it was you and I against the world!" Her voice became loud. I guessed my silence provoked her. Her hands now wiped the tears that spilled, making her face a mess, the sight made my heart shatter. She did not deserve to be hurt, at least not by me and certainly not like this.

"Am I not even worth your respect to be told this news in person? You wait to let me find out like this?" She waved her phone at me and I felt her choke on the last word.

"I tried to bring myself to tell you but this..." I said. Pointing to the both of us.
"...This is far more complicated that you can understand. I am left with no other lifeline Enitan. There is no way out of this!"

The words escaped my lips before I had the chance to shut my mouth. My teeth grinded so hard against eachother they threatened to crack. This conversation drove me crazy because it made me realize I had lied to her when I called her my 'ride or die', I felt like a liar, a coward, incapable of either riding or dying. How pathetic.

I wanted to offer her something more than all I said, a good reason for my betrayal. She deserved that much but my mouth remained shut while my eyes searched her teary ones for any kind of understanding. How unfair of me, how could I expect her to understand it was me, her trusted lover who picked up the knife and stabbed her right in the Heart. I didn't know where to begin. I was too ashamed to defend myself or comfort her.
So I stood there in silence and watched the tears flow.

"Fine! Don't speak. Ignore my need to make sense of all this.
You don't owe me an explanation anyways, you were never mine in the first place."

You were never mine in the first place

Her words made my heart sink to the pit of my stomach. Because they weren't true, I was hers only, always have.
... Always will be

With that she dashed past me and headed towards the door. I wanted to grab her, hold her tight in a hug and tell her this wasn't my wish. I wanted her more than anything else in the world. I loved her so much and was ready to run away together. But all this was beyond me and my need for a woman.

So I stayed. Rooted to the ground until I heard the door close behind me.

'She is gone' I said aloud to myself. Gone. Just like my family and fiancée wanted.

Fiancée

The word made me cringe in disgust. It made me angry. It brought the awful reminder; my wedding was in two months. Two months until my life became miserable, oh was it not already? But it was the price I had to pay for the family name and business. My legs weak and shaken from the thousand emotions coursing through my veins, I walked to my chair and sank in.

The hook of J. Cole's 'Lost ones' pealed of my phone bringing me back from my melancholic thoughts. I glanced at the caller and fell back on my seat when I saw her name. Annabelle Martins. The She-Devil. I suspected she leaked our engagement story and staged pictures to the tabloids. I did ask her to keep it out of the media or at least wait till I had a few things settled on my end.

Until I had the guts to talk to Enitan about this sham of an engagement

But she didn't listen. Now the blogs and media houses feasted on my ill-luck and indirectly made me lose the only woman I ever truly loved. Annabelle's sick way of revenge and staking her claims in this war. A war I lost the moment Enitan walked out that door. I watched the phone ring again, this time I answered.

" Annabelle. Morning."
"Hey shuga, how was your..."
"Can we do this later?" I cut her of. "My hands are full at the moment." I ended the call before she agitated me further.

My only thoughts were on Enitan and how she left my office bewildered.

I worried about her getting home in one piece so I called Everest, one of my personal security to keep an eye on her from the moment she stepped out of the elevator. But she never did.
How no one told me about this thread I don't understand. I thought I had friends o.

Ann2012 and Khriztal, there is God o.

Now, away from them....

Baby girl, you stirred my heart with your first chapter. I'm so sorry I had to quote it all but damn... I struggle with writing first point of view and all I can say is that you did an excellent job. I could totally feel Nathan's pain and Enitan's trauma. You've made me hate Annabelle and I hope you are happy. Mama barely said five words and I hate her already.

Bottom line, I'm in love with this work.

Two thumbs way up for you.

P.S. if I'm not updating, I think I'm going to be here.

Folá Ige sat by his daughter and held her hand. To think, her engagement party was supposed to be this week. How she had come down with leukemia of all diseases baffled him. He had thought it was a childhood disease but the doctor said though it was common in children, adults could have it too. That wasn’t the painful part. She needed a bone marrow donor. He was too old to donate and so was his wife. Jolá was out of the question. Even if Jolá could donate bone marrow with the pending issue with his son’s ex-wife he doubted Jolá would ever come to his aid. None of his other three children's HLA types matched hers. He turned and saw her fiancé and sighed. When the doctor said seventy-five percent of patients didn’t have siblings whose HLA matched theirs, the young man had instinctively offered to donate. They didn’t match either. The register for donors in Nigeria was very small. He considered flying her out of the country but the doctor suggested against it saying HLA differed by ethnic group.
He hated this HLA of a thing. Couldn’t it be as simple as having the same blood type? He would have gladly given every drop of blood in his body to save her. Why was it so difficult? It was as though God was punishing him. Was God punishing him? Because of Elsa? He had ruined her life. And somehow he couldn’t forget the last sermon he heard in church. Something about God punishing children for the sins of their fathers and fathers eating sour grapes and the children’s teeth being set on edge. That Sunday he had been so afraid. Would his four daughters be raped too? He remembered the instance the pastor gave. How David’s sin with Uriah's wife was punished. The son from that union died and Absalom slept with his father’s concubines in public.
Now, his first daughter had cancer of the blood. He had been praying for forgiveness since he became born again. Did God really have no intention of forgiving him? His daughters were innocents. He hadn’t even had them when he raped Elsa.
God, please, have mercy.
His wife ran into the ward panting. The rims of her eyes were red. She had been crying since Peju got admitted. Her tears and sobs turned into wails and weeping as each HLA sample tested with their daughter's was unmatched. She had a weird smile on her face probably because of the crust her years had formed on her face.
“Mummy, what is it?”, Dayo, their daughter’s fiancé, asked in a worry frenzy.
“Dayo, we have three possible donors we haven’tcontacted yet.”, his wife said in glee.
“Really?”, the boy asked in elation.
He raised his eyebrow and stared at her as she manufactured three donors. “Oya, o. Who are the three donors? How could we have missed three donors?” He wasn’t getting his hopes up for nothing.
“Dele and his two children.”, his wife listed in ecstasy. His curiosity and irritation faded into dejection.
“Gbagbe e. Forget it. Ko s'ana n be.”, he said and turned to his daughter.
“What do you mean by ko s'ana n be? If Dele is angry with his father, how is that our fault? He and Peju are cousins. He should want to help her.”, Kemi asserted.
“Kemi, o o l'ojuti. You have no shame. Do you know what Délé looks like? But you want to go and ask him to donate his bone marrow to a cousin he doesn’t know. If you have no pride, I do.”, Folá spat at his wife.
“Sir, permit me to say. Mummy is right. Saving Peju's life is bigger than our pride. If I have to beg this Délé guy then I will. All that matters is that Peju is well.”, Dayo said and his wife nodded in approval.
Folá scowled at the boy and hissed. “I thought you had something better to say.”
“Folajimi, nkankan o gbodo se omo mi. If you have to call your nephew and beg him, I don’t know. But nothing must happen to my daughter. Because you are growing shoulder pads and huffing in pride. If that pride will donate marrow to my daughter, then go ahead and be a peacock. If not, you had better toss that AG title aside and the pride that comes with it and do what real fathers do.”, his wife scorned and left the ward.
“Excuse me, sir.”, the young man said and left too.
God, you have decided to ridicule me. Ahh, Folá, o ti te!
Folá's phone vibrated in his pocket and he brought it out. Jaiyé was calling. He had to go back to work. He had left all his duties on the shoulders of the young man. And no matter how strong and efficient those shoulders were, they weren’t meant for the burden he had cruelly placed on them. He picked the call and said, “Hello.”
“Sir, I'm so sorry to disturb you but have you seen the new bill the National Assembly just tabled before the president?”, the man said in panic. He could hear noises in the background. Most likely staff discussing the bill. Folá, now, could not be bothered by the content of any act. So long as it didn’t outlaw bone marrow transplant. Jaiye wouldn’t have called him if it wasn’t important. At least, to the nation. Now, his daughter’s health was the most important thing to him. He decided to feign interest.
“No, I haven’t. What about it?”, he asked.
“Sir, it’s a poorly constructed bill to reduce the number of inmates on death row. How? By carrying out the death sentence the very day it is given. It leaves only twenty four hours to process the appeal.”, Jaiye said.
“What?!”, he shouted as he recalled Délé’s ex-wife. If she died, Dele would be sad and a reconciliation with Jolá would be impossible. And Jolá would in turn ruin him.
“Sir, it violates the Constitution, the rights to life, fair hearing and…” Jaiyé’s words were lost on him. If Dele was angry, he would never donate his bone marrow. The waiting list for a donor was three years long due to absence of available donors. Anything could happen to his Peju in three years. If Jolá was angry, his practice and reputation would be tarnished. Both ways, he'd be finished.
“Ahh!”, he shouted into the phone and Jaiyé's nagging stopped.
“Sir?”, Jaiye asked. Folá realized he was still on a call and hung up.

Chapter 26
Felicia rubbed her husband’s hand to wake him up. Her hands felt cold against his. She called his name softly and he stirred. He muttered something that sounded like five more minutes. Felicia shook her head and chuckled softly. Dapo always said the same thing every morning. She decided to treat him like Dapo and smacked his bum.
“Daddy Dapo.”, she called and his eyes fluttered open. He groaned at the appellation she had given him. He hated that name. He said it made him feel old.
“Morning. What’s the time?”, he said as he rubbed his eyes with the heels of his hands. She told him and he groaned. He rolled to the edge of the bed and then went on his knees. Felicia was certain he was awake as he mumbled his matins and left to sit at the vanity.
She picked up her deodorant and applied it under her arms. She would have applied her makeup but lately the smell of her foundation and powder triggered her morning sickness so she steered clear of them. She spritzed her new perfume on her wrists and behind her ears. The fragrance started a churn in her belly and she swallowed and sat still. How long was this going to last? It wasn’t this bad when she was pregnant with Dapo and Nancy. Maybe it was because of the two babies in her womb. She smiled and rubbed her belly.
She stood slowly and walked over to the beside table and picked up he pill case. She pouted her pills for the morning onto her palm and swallowed them with the aid of water from the bottle on the table. She fought the urge to regurgitate and pushed the pills down her gullet. The drugs left her mouth bitter and she drank more water.
She sat on the bed and waited for Jaiyé to be done. He mumbled the few confessions he made every morning and then looked at her. He smiled weakly and she smiled back.
“How are you doing? Did you go to the doctor?”, he said as he stood up and went to the wardrobe.
“Your children are being a pain.”, she said mischievously as he flipped through suit and shirt options. He picked out a black pinstriped suit and a white shirt and laid it on the bed.
He looked at her and tilted his head and smiled. Though Dapo was an obedient and respectful boy, Jaiyé wondered if he could ever do wrong in Felicia’s eyes. “Let me guess. You and Dapo fought last night. What did he do?”, he said.
“My Dapo is an angel.”, she said and flipped her hair over her shoulder. Jaiyé rolled his eyes as he searched the wardrobe for his cufflinks, wristwatch and tie. “I am talking about the two rascals inside me.”
“As if Dapo can do anything wrong.”, he muttered and walked towards the bathroom before her words sank in and he turned to face her. “Did you just say two rascals?”
Her mirthful grin said it all and he rushed over to carry her. “Jaiye, put me down please.”, she shouted and swatted his shoulders merciless. “Please, I feel nauseous.”
“Sorry.”, he said as he put her down. He kissed her forehead and snaked his arms around her waist. “Thank you, Jesus.”, he muttered panting in exhilaration. “When did you find out?”
“Yesterday. I wanted to tell you when you came in but you fell asleep as I was talking. Jaiyé, I’m so glad. God has finally compensated us for the baby we lost.”, she said and rested her head on his chest. “They are all I can think about. My boss is going to murder me but I can’t stop daydreaming about who they’ll look like.”
Jaiyé hummed in response and wondered how to tell her what he wanted to. “Felicia?”
“Yes, my love. Baba Ibeji.”, she cooed mischievously as she grinned unto his chest.
“I automatically earn that title, don’t I?”, he said and she laughed. “Felicia, I have something to tell you.” He waited for her reaction. She broke the hug and looked up at him with smiles. “I want us to go and apologise to your father.” His words were a heavy torrent that washed away her smile and left no traces of the curled lips that lighten her face. As though all the color in her was sucked away, she turned blanched and she took two steps away from him.
“Did I hear you correctly?”, she said.
“Felicia, you did. Our marriage was built on lies. And we dishonoured your father and hurt him. I can understand why he did what he did…”
She didn’t let him finish before she shouted, “Are you justifying his actions? Are you saying he was right I doing the horrendous things he did? Jaiyeola, is that what you’re saying?”
“Maybe I am justifying his actions. What we did was every bit as horrendous. Felicia…”
“No!”, she sobbed. Her face reddened with tears of anguish. “You don’t know how much I suffered. You know what you were told. I know what I went through. That animal is indign and will not receive any apologies from me.”
“Felicia!”, he shouted and she crossed her arms across her chest indignantly. She was till crying but he didn’t care. How could she call her father an animal? “What is wrong with you?”
“Look, Jaiye. I am not sorry for what I said. He is an animal and I will not apologise. And the day you go to him, that day you can forget you have a wife and children. I will take my children and you will never see any of us again. I did it for two years. So don’t test me. Jaiyé, I am not threatening you. I am promising you. We will leave and for as long as you live your eyes will not see our shadows let alone us..”, she said and left the room.
