Thanks OP

I am an undergraduate Geophysics student. I have been hearing about GIS but really do not have a complete understanding of it. I would just say it involves the use of geographic maps. Here are my questions :
1.0 Where can this knowledge be applied especially in Nigeria ?

2.0 Does it guarantee quick employment ?

Religion / Re: The Road That Leads To Pastor Chris Oyakhilome's Hometown In Edo (Photos) by Mimifumsy: 8:04am On Nov 24, 2017
The attack on the Church is rising with unnecessary things been used to attack it.

Why can't we call on the Muslim kings with strong political influence to appeal to the government to repair the road leading to their domain.

That was same road VP Osinbajo and Dangote pass to the cement project.

The immediate past Minister of Works (Mike Onolemen) can also appeal to the govt that the road to his place needs repair.

Adams Oshiomole takes that road to his village every time and with his political influence why can't he influence the repair.

The Deputy Governor of the state takes that road to his village every time.

And lastly Buhari used a Helicopter to Oshiomole wedding because of the bad state of the FEDERAL ROAD.

Then why picking on Pastor Chris when the people that suppose to repair or influence the repair use the road regularly but are not bothered because they have the money to change their car when it gets bad.

Look! We are not absolving the govt of their responsibilities. But there is what is known as CSR - Corporate Social Responsibility. If I am in the man of god's shoes, I will do better. This is the only road leading to his village. The injunction: Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven is still valid.

Take Oyedepo as example: https://www.nairaland.com/4193431/living-faith-church-construct-four

Why are we picking on Pastor Chris, when the Catholic church has a business venture in the same town (Monks bakery). Same road leads to a cement factory in Okpella. The present Deputy Governor must pass that road to his home town and the Past Governor (Adams Oshiomole) must take that road to his home town. Same road links Delta and Bayelsa to Abuja.

The federal government is to be held responsible because it is a FEDERAL ROAD.

You are right and also the immediate past Minister of Works (Mike Onolemen)
Religion / Re: The Road That Leads To Pastor Chris Oyakhilome's Hometown In Edo (Photos) by Mimifumsy: 12:14pm On Nov 23, 2017
The OP and others attacking the pastor should be aware that the road is a FEDERAL ROAD and travellers travelling to Abuja from most part of Delta and Bayelsa must use that road.

They should also know that it leads to the home town of:

Adams Oshiomole (Ex Governor)

Philip Shaibu (Present Deputy Governor)

Speaker Edo state house of assembly

Also it leads to:
Some cement factories

Communities of rich Muslim kings in Edo states.

A pastor should not be held responsible for the failure of the government.

@ Mimifumsy Fascinating! You must be a professional in this.. Pls is it financially rewarding? Can someone from a medical science background (medical physiology... I can remember O'level geography ) learn it?
All you need is a basic computer knowledge and then we teach you the Fundamentals of GIS which will give you a broader view of the application of GIS. Then learn the specific application in your chosen field.

How is Gis applied in health?
GIS IN HEALTH
The benefits of Geographic Information System (GIS) is numerous, but i will look at some of the benefits of GIS to healthcare.

Identifying Health Trends
The software offers healthcare professionals the ability to identify health related trends and more thoroughly target healing efforts based upon those results.

The utilisation of GIS in health trend identification includes cancer surveillance, heavy metal poisoning monitoring and other environmental health related studies.
In cancer surveillance programme, assess to demographic data, such as home address, workplace, cancer type, and even data collected from wearable health tech of all patients entered into the system can be collected, georeferenced and mapped. Healthcare professionals can visualize the locations of patients and determine if there are clusters of specific types of cancer associated with similar working conditions or residential areas.

In heavy metal poisoning monitoring and other environmental health related studies, GIS can be used to know if the occurrence is close to a mine (eg lead poisoning), source of water, nearness to heavily sprayed farm and close to an industry with large effluent discharge.

Tracking the Spread of Infectious Disease
Occurrence: GIS can help in knowing the occurrence of diseases (where diseases occurs).

Causes: It also can help in tracing the root cause of the disease.
Prevalent rate: GIS helps in knowing the occurrence rate of a disease. This will help to know how severe it is.

Spread: GIS can help in monitoring how a disease is spreading, the rate at which the infectious disease is spreading and direction of spread.

Checkmating: GIS can help in curbing the spread of an infectious disease and also in eradicating it.

Improving and Staffing of Health Facilities
The use of GIS technology can enable Health management board to work more closely with hospitals to take larger steps in addressing healthcare needs. The system can help identify which neighborhoods are in greater need of specific health services such as more pediatric centres, maternal facilities and vaccination centres. Analysis of demographic data and knowledge of some occurrence such as the rate of snake bite, can help in knowing the specialty of healthcare workers needed in a facility and types of vaccines and drugs that is more needed in a health care facility.

The Business of Health Care Geographic
The use of GIS in the private health sector encompasses applications in marketing and business management as well as those concerned with patient care.

Health care providers can no longer afford to indulge in the "build it and they will come" fallacy. Health care is a business and to be competitive they need to be located conveniently to their customer base.

Also health care providers can find new markets by increasing the range of services they offer based on an analysis of patient needs, both present and future, in their market area. This allows growth without requiring relocation. Another strategy involves identifying and cultivating a hospital's most profitable services. This strategy includes studying competitors to learn about the services they offer and populations they serve and to gauge how profitable they are.

Using GIS for demographic analysis to estimate the demand for various types of services can also benefit individual physicians. How consumers access the services of managed health care providers is controlled by geographic location. Matching physician locations to where employees live or work assures that primary care physicians are available throughout the network and that the types of specialties required by specific populations are located reasonably close to these populations.

Public HealthCare Planning
GIS can help in knowing the distribution of health facilities and the distance travelled by patients to these facilities. It can help in knowing areas been served and areas least served. Also GIS can help in creating the best suitable location for a health care facility which is easily accessible with shorter distance to the patients. This can help healthcare provider and planners in health facility planning.

Health Care Research
GIS can help in collecting and storing data which could be used in current and further health care research.

Kindly shed more light on GIS
Sorry that I couldn't reply you since.

GIS
Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system for capturing, storing, checking and displaying data related to positions on the Earth’s surface. It's of great importance, because all activities or things on earth are position or location related.

It allows us to view, understand, question, interpret and visualize data in ways that reveals relationship, patterns and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports and charts. With GIS technology, people can compare the locations of different things in order to discover how they relate to each other.

But they didn't tell us when CBN was recruiting, we never heard from NNPC again after the congratulatory text from Phillip Consulting, NIMASA don't even advertise again, but keep sending northerners to study marine engineering and nautical science in Asia, Europe and North Africa. Many are back now after graduating only to find out that 95% of ship owners are southerners who got no chill leaving them stranded and frustrated

DPR said them no see their Papa certificate hence disqualified, others just got a regret mail for applying only, no reason no excuse. Just simple, sorry YOUR APPLICATION WAS UNSUCCESSFUL grin grin grin

as in they weren't given a chance to compete.

Sounds funny right, until it hits you!!!
That's the reality of life in Nigeria. Those that genuinely passed the NNPC exam with a congratulatory text were never invited again. I am still angry with myself why I wasted my time writing that exam.
