Sports / MGI Scrabble Grand Slam Gets Support From SCRABBLE GO by Mindgames: 11:32am On Sep 29, 2022
ONE MILLION NAIRA STAR PRIZE UP FOR GRABS!

Top American gaming firm, Scopely, has agreed to support the inaugural Mind Games Incorporated (MGI) Scrabble Grand Slam slated to hold from October 14 to 16 at Golfview Hotel Ikeja, Lagos.

According to the organisers of the event, the championship, which is the latest variant of scrabble tournament, was introduced to expand and keep engaging Nigerian players abreast of new innovations in the sport.

Players in the Scrabble Grand Slam are expected to go through a qualifying process to be among 28 players for the main event, which involves 24 games to be played on match day.

International players from the United Kingdom, United States, Ghana, The Gambia and Liberia have already conveyed their readiness to join their Nigerian rivals in the historic event.

MGI Chief, Lukman Owolabi, explained that the partnership with Scopely will create large viewership for the Grand Slam Championship, saying the American gaming company will live-stream all the games on their platform.

“The Scrabble Grand Slam will feature top players from Nigeria and abroad. Nigeria’s top players like Emmanuel Umujose, Willington Jighere and Enoch Nwali have already booked their tickets for the event from their outstanding performance this year.

“More players will qualify for the championship after the Lekki Scrabble Classics and the MGI Scrabble League early next month. Wild card entries are also included.

“SCOPELY, the makers of Scrabble GO mobile app, will support the live broadcast of the tournament on their Scrabble Twitch Channel, as our official streaming partner.

“The sponsorship from Scopely is a step in the right direction for MGI as an organisation, as we continue the pursuit of excellence in the delivery of scrabble tournament experience to players and followers all over the world. We are highly optimistic that this is the beginning of a lasting and mutually beneficial partnership between MGI and SCOPELY,” he said.

Sports / Jesse Day Wins The $1000 USD Star Prize At The MGI Virtual Scrabble Tournament by Mindgames: 11:37pm On Nov 01, 2020
What a tournament! What an experience!

I would like to congratulate Jesse Day of USA for emerging as the champion of the inaugural MGI Virtual International Scrabble League Series.

My gratitude goes first, to God and then to the following people without whom we could never have had a successful tournament.

Femi Awowade
Dr Ayotunde Adeyeri
Adekoyejo Adegbesan
Dr Musa Olasupo
Charles Uzamere (FrontPage CEO)
Will Anderson
Conrad Bassett-Bouchard
Ben Schoenbrun
Ayorinde Saidu
David Eldar (Donated his prize)

And to all the players who registered for the tournament, I say a very big THANK YOU for taking a leap of faith in the MGI brand. Please know that, together, we have made an indelible mark and recorded a first (Biggest ever online tournament in terms of prizes and number) in the history of online Scrabble.

I also would like to thank my beautiful wife and kids for their understanding, having spent most of the last 4 weekends alone even though I was present in the house.

We have learnt quite a few things in the course of running this inaugural tournament and we will be drawing on the experience for further improvements in subsequent editions. As most people are aware, we pioneered a monitoring system at the latter stages of the tournament to address the issue of cheating in online Scrabble play. The deployment of video camera / screen sharing to monitor players was largely successful and we will consider adopting the monitoring system from the beginning in the next virtual series.

We also want to hear from the players who participated in the tournament through a feedback survey. Your opinion as a participant surely counts, and we will be sending out a survey via email in the next few days for suggestions on how we can improve. We are keeping an open door for constructive feedback and we would like to hear from Scrabble players all over the world on how we can improve our events and grow the MGI brand globally.

The MGI DREAM is to consistently run the biggest Scrabble events (virtual or face to face) in the world, professionalize Scrabble, grow and promote the game at grassroots level. We continue to put ourselves in good position to attract individual and corporate sponsors by creating quality and attractive events all year round. We are also using this opportunity to solicit support from Scrabble players by way of voluntary donations. If you would like to support our events, please reach out to us via email at info@mindgamesincorporated.com or contact me privately at lukeman.owolabi@gmail.com.

It is also noteworthy to mention that all the 20 prize winners at the MGI Virtual International Scrabble League Series have been fully paid. Both finalists will also receive their gift package from our stream sponsor – FRONTPAGE COUTURE within the week.

Following the successful hosting of the inaugural edition, the management team of MGI has decided to run the virtual series at least twice a year, alongside our other events. We sincerely hope that Scrabble players around the world will support the event going forward, especially with the deployment of our monitoring system to tackle the menace of cheating.

Once again, I would like to specially thank Will Anderson and Conrad Basset-Bouchard for their selfless contributions and extra-ordinary commitment in bringing the event live to viewers all over the world. Please subscribe to Will's Twitch Channel - www.twitch.tv/wanderer15 to appreciate his creativity and support his work.

Details of the next MGI Virtual Scrabble tournament will be announced when the MGI event calendar for 2021 is published later this year on our website - www.mindgamesincorporated.com.

In the meantime, you can join the W.E.T.O event being organised by Ben Schoenbrun on the Woogles Platform. Details can be found on - https:///380itak

Thank you and continue to stay safe wherever you are. See you all in 2021.

Sports / MGI Scrabble Premier League Gets Fresh Innovations, 7 MILLION Cash Prizes. by Mindgames: 8:07am On Jul 31, 2019
Organisers of the maiden Mindgames Scrabble Premier League has announced a set of innovations to the 2020 edition due to the requests of interest from players all over the country.

The MSPL is the first ever league to be introduced into the country designed to match the ever increasing yearning for international standards in organising tournaments by players both home and abroad.

The 12-team league format comprising six players including a female each play are playing 55 games at the four different venues across the country.

Hence, in order to meet the yearnings, organisers have planned for a second tier which will be introduced next year to accommodate players whose ratings fall below the Nigeria Scrabble Federation 1300 points as at October 31 this year.

Head of Team MGI Lukeman Owolabi, revealed this development as the final Matchday of the inaugural edition gets to it's pinnacle in September.

Owolabi said,'' starting from next year, the MSPL will be expanded to a 2-division league to accommodate more scrabble players who have expressed interest to be part of this unprecedented initiative'' the former world No.9 then added that ''scrabble league teams can write to info@mgiscrabbleleague.com to indicate their interest before the closing date of September 20 this year.''

Revealing more details on the 2020 season, he said a total cash prize of seven million naira will be available for both divisions while intending teams will register with a fee of 100,000 naira and 75,000 naira for divisions 1 and 2 respectively.

For even distribution, the NSF top ten-rated players will also be seeded only for the first division while each team will have five main players and one reserved.

As part of the add-ons, a transfer window policy will also be adopted in June.

The 2020 MSPL will run from February to September in four different venues across the country after which two teams will be promoted to the top division while the two lowest ranked teams relegated.

12 teams are participating in the ongoing 2019 edition which includes Bulldozers, Airpopper, Gracious Pickers, Phoenix and Hurricanes.

Others are Tekena Drones, Team Supreme, Lekki Bombers,Olowoyeye Predators, Blazers, Brainiacs and FRSC Roadies.

MindGames Incorporated (MGI) is set to launch the maiden edition of the MGI Scrabble Premier League (MSPLeague) in Nigeria. A total of 12 teams have completed registration and will battle for the top prize of N1,000,000. The total prize money for the league is estimated to be around N3,000,000.

League matches will be played across the country starting from Lagos on March 16, 2019. The next league weekend will hold on May 18 at the prestigious Stonehedge Hotel in Abuja, followed by a trip to Shell Club, Port Harcourt on July 13. The final showdown of the MSPLeague 2019 will take place at the classy and sophisticated Lilygate Hotel in Lagos from September 14-15, 2019.

The organizers plan to expand the league to two/three divisions from next year in order to accommodate more scrabble players who have shown interest in joining the league.

Further information about the league can be found on www.mgiscrabbleleague.com. Many thanks to all our partners/sponsors for making this happen.
