Education › Re: Looming Crisis In Universities: Professors Earn ₦633,333, Senators '₦21 Million' by Mindlog: 7:34pm On Aug 31, 2025 |
yemmit90: Nigeria politics is different to UK politics, be realistic please. The dynamism and prerequisite of politics in this country will never allow office holders to be less corrupt. You don't expect someone to spend 200m naira to get to the office and be giving him 1m per month for just 4 years. He/she will definitely steal to recouped all money spent plus profits.
Until Nigeria dish out presidential system of government and embrace regionalism with unicameral representatives at the centre, we can't move forward a bit as a country. Reason, I earlier posted that a politician selling his properties for elections is not sacrifice but investment. He/she is not intending to serve the people but to scoop from the commonwealth. Even if you pay a Nigerian politician who spent that N200m to get into office, N20m monthly for the next 4 years, his/her mind is already programmed to steal billions within that 4 years...it is a bottomless pit. |
Education › Re: Looming Crisis In Universities: Professors Earn ₦633,333, Senators '₦21 Million' by Mindlog: 6:57pm On Aug 31, 2025 |
yemmit90: If we are to be fair enough or be realistic, we shouldn't be comparing what senators earned with that of university professors.
Senators are elected for a limited period of time, and aside that, it cost a fortune for someone to contest in elections in this part of the world. Some of these people sold their properties and took up huge loan to get to that position. They spent alot of money for protection, and some don't even enjoy their lives with their wives and children. They sacrifice alot to earned the price.
I don't even subscribe to idea of increase salary, just make life be bearable to an average Nigerian. Food should be the cheapest or least thing a modern man should be worrying about. It should in abundance that a 10 days pay of an average worker should be enough to pay off his/her bills for a month. Politicians selling their properties and taking huge loans for elections, is not sacrifice but "investment" and they intend to recoup all they spent, in many folds through misappropriation of public funds at the expense of the lives of millions of Nigerians. I am employed by a London borough (local government), the head of my unit as a civil servant earns more than a UK MP (equivalent to Nigeria's senator), not to talk of the CEO of the borough whose salary is more than twice of what Kemi Badenoch earns as an MP. |

Dennisochampa: Mention one country in the world where lecturers in Universities earn more than their law makers...... Just one.....
Is it in USA, UK, Japan, Russia or China?? But they earn reasonably enough in those countries to live in comfort. What a Nigerian Professor earns in a monthl cannot even pay for his flight ticket , if he is to attend academic conference abroad. Still studying towards my Professional Doctorate and working full-time with my Msc, what I earn in one and half day of work (net pay), is more than what a Nigerian Professor earns in a month....it is really sad. |

adonainana: He is right about the shared apartments argument , humans beings can’t be living in small cubicles with other strangers in the name of affordable rent
If it’s working for you fine , the general view is the uk is finished , even uk politicians say it everyday and the cost of living in the uk is evident to all to see
The only people I blame is those who sold all thier generational wealth and ran to the uk in the last 6 years
The ones I don’t blame are the ones who without them leaving Nigeria to the uk they won’t have become anything in life
But to say uk is a country with more opportunities than Canada and us you are just wasting ur time bro
Uk is finished Are people not living worse, in face-me-I-slap-you rooms in Nigeria with little or no basics? Are politicians in Canada and US not also complaining about their economy and immigration policies? I am very qualified in the field of Clinical Child Psychology to the level I can still get job offers in the US, Canada and Australia, if I am interested and apply but the UK ticks more for me in terms of professional growth and family life, reason I am comfortable with my life, working and living in London. Canada and the US can be it for others but not for me. |

So many Nigerians already in the UK were also scammed, who you wan go report to?
After spending so much on Masters degree programs that offered little or no pathway to a skilled worker visa, they had to save or borrow huge sums to pay those scammers who hawked COS.
Some Nigerian pentecostal churches here in the UK are complicit, as on Sundays they allowed some of these COS scammers to come to places of worship to give talks about their "COS packages". |

Ezeama400: There is great problem in Nigeria .
Dangote is the richest man in Africa, yet Nigeria ended up with 4th position, very far behind Egypt and South Africa
This is why I keep telling people to stop celebrating nonsense.. One of the characteristics of a successful society is the number of people doing well in such society, not celebrating the success of one person, to cap it all, the top three countries even have lesser population than Nigerian..
What a mess !!! Reason I always say I prefer spread wealth, where 1,000 families can boast of having one million naira to one person having one billion naira. |
