Hello Grafixdon, I just got the same car too. I contacted Liqui Molly and they recommended Liqui Moly Molygen New Generation 5W-30. Its 5 litres and costs like 13k.

Some questions for you here:
1. Has this vehicle ever overheated so badly before?
If yes, what has being done previously on it due to that incidence?

So here's what I think is happening here:
1. Each time you erased the codes with your code reader, vehicle performs perfectly. The check engine light, along side the codes, only pops up, when it has being driven for along time, and when the engine has gotten to its operating temperature.

2. You appeared not to observed any driveability problems now, because, that vehicle is a V8, and a pending or current misfire problem, does not show up, in such away you'd feel it on a 4cylinder engine. This is because the number of cylinders( on that vehicle, tends to canceled out any potential misfires. Please do note, only if its a SINGLE CYLINDER MISFIRING, AND IN A PENDING STATUS. You'd only noticed a misfiring cylinder, if its severe(current), on idle, on 4/6 cylinder engines. But on V8+above, its a different ball game entirely.

3. Reviewing your freeze frame data, you got to fix the P0330 code FIRST, along side the P0420 code.

The knock sensor wire may have chamfered, if that engine has undergone a serious overheating before, or rodent could have chewed it, causing an open circuit problem.

4. The P0420 code, which is current, talks about the catalytic converter, not properly doing its job of reducing vehicle emissions(harmful gaseous substances).

It may not be the catalytic converter that is pretty bad, as you maybe think.

An exhaust leak around the neck of the catalytic converters, or anywhere on the exhaust system, would trigger this code, and hence the excess fuel consumption you're experiencing.

From the fuel trims in the freeze frames, the problem is occurring more on bank 2, which is the cylinder head by the driver side.

In solving the P0420 code, you need to focused more on banks 1&2, sensors 2, on both banks. Those are the sensors responsible for telling the ECU, if the efficiencies of both catalytic converters (post ones I mean), are working at the set % efficiencies.


PS: The pending misfire on cylinder #8, would in due time come(becomes Current).

I drive a 2003 Toyota 4runner 4.7l, V8. The fuel consumption has increased.

I used a basic OBD scanner and got the following codes:
P0330 - knock sensor 2 circuit Bank 2;
P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) and
P0308 (Pending) Cylinder 8 Misfire.

The car moves ok and does not seem to misfire (at least not noticeable to me).
Kindly assist me with the interpretation of the above, what could be the possible cause(s) of the increased fuel consumption and suggested solution.

I bought this car a year ago and it's been serving me very well. Though I bought the car as Nigeria used from a staff at the college where I work but he sold it to me without informing me of all the faults even though we are very close.
After driving the car sorrowfully for close to a year, I decided to spend good money on it.
I changed all the front suspensions.
Changed the interior,
Bought a new tokunbo engine and gear (though there is no problem with the gear, my mechanic advised I changed the gear cuz the new engine may be too powerful for the old gear)
Changed fuel pump and absorbers.
I even changed the front and back bumper then I oven baked the car.
Everybody thought I bought a new car.
I have never felt better driving it. So smooth and heavy...
Now that everything is fine with my beloved car, I started getting pressure from family and friends to sell the car and buy another one.
It started with my wife asking me to change the car, then my dad saying Honda is not reliable. A few other friends (colleagues) also advised I sell it now that it looks like tokunbo... I'm very confuse cuz if I sell this car, I'm not sure of the issues I'll have with the new car I'll buy then I'll start spending money on it again.

I know if I seek this advice from my wife. She will say sell it so I'm throwing it to you guys.
Please, have you ever been in this situation and do you think I'll get value for what I spent on it?

My fellow Nairalanders, I need your help.
There is oil leaking into the Distributor of my 2002 Honda Accord.
On my way back to Lagos from the east, I observed the car slowing down at times not minding that I still have my foot on the accelerator.
This happened thrice through the journey. Next day, I started the car but the idling rate was irregular, I engaged the reverse gear but the car won't move. On closer observation, I noted the exhaust had a smell like there is incomplete combustion. After a while anyway, the idling rate became OK and I was able to move the vehicle straight to my mechanic.
He checked to confirm all plugs are functioning properly. But when he opened the distributor, we saw oil was leaking into it, but the mechanic could not tell me what was causing that. I told him to clean it and put it back until we are sure what it is.
So my dear people, kindly let me know what you think it is and what the possible solution might be.
