Danielnino00: It's clear Okoye has little interest in playing for the super Eagles... And that to me, his him being ungrateful, considering the fact that the super Eagles played a role in his emergence from the German 4th division to to Sparta Rotterdam in a couple of years... Perhaps he feels to big to be playing second fiddle to Nwabali..
But I really hope he can change his attitude sooner, cus in all honesty, we still need him...as we saw at the last AFCON (before the Morocco game), Nwabali is also prone to error and mischiefs...he needs competition to keep him on his toe...Arthur Okonkwo is good, but he isn't really up to Okoye level yet... All goal keepers will definitely have this deficiency in them(Error Prone), the Koko is have you been spectacular, remarkable, significant in so many situations for us? Ethiopia vs Nigeria in Addis Ababa 2014 WCQ, our almighty Enyeama conceded one nonsense goal like that that gave the Ethiopians a 1-0 lead, a winger making a cross and Enyeama making a mess of it. |

Walai I no really rate Maduka Okoye, I will repeat again, he doesn't have any significant/remarkable/brilliant moment for super eagles...He doesn't even have any medal as super eagles goalkeeper...If they are to give captain from goalkeeper angle Okoye is the oldest by CAPs amongst the 3GKs, but with how Nwabali shows brilliant displays for SUPER EAGLES, he is more of a captain material than Okoye. -No commanding presence while in post -No bullying presence or this strong headedness we see with some goalkeepers/players. That guy too soft to be radical in between stick for us abeg.....if we wanna succeed in goal keeping department let's still stick with our proper 9ja/African born radical talent the rest can be second choice abeg (only Carl Ikeme gave something to relish in his short stint) |

chrisooblog: Not a fan of Okoye delaying his arrival for less serious engagements but the NFF shouldn't have hung him out to dry since he had already informed them and the coaching crew. They could have released a statement since saying he would join up later instead of making Maduka look unprofessional with his absence.
As for Maduka this will only add more fuel to doubts about his commitment to the national team. If he's really desperate to reclaim his number 1 position I'm yet to see that in his performances and response to call ups in general.
That said I rate him highly as a talented up and coming goalkeeper. Okoye is not the answer to super eagles goalkeeping department, that guy is just coming to fill up the needed 3 spots for goalkeeper in super eagles...Since 2019 he made his debut against Brazil he's not and has never been significant and commanding for us in goal. Nwabali is the perfect super eagles materials, his only short comings that pits him below Enyeama are: 1. He has not won Afcon 2.He has not played at the WC stage 3.He has been playing for a whack club all these while 4.And now age is not on his side again. Aside this 4points I mentioned Nwabali has produced so many "Emyeamasque" moment for us. -Heroic penalty saves leading us to Afcon final in his first Afcon appearance, something Enyeama could not achieve in his Afcon debut semifinal PK shootout vs Tunisia, -He still came again with some Heroic penalty saves in his second Afcon appearance semifinal PK shootout vs Morocco, but his team members failed him(Chukwueze and co) He still led us to another heroic third place match PK saves Vs Egypt clinching another medal. He still made heroic saves Vs DRC in WC playoff final, but his team mates decide not to go to the WC. Okoye is a good goalkeeper simply becos he plays for a big team, he had his chance to be our undisputed no1 in Afcon 2021, but he was simply not a super eagles material or should I say super eagles luck is/was against him. We can't have Nwabali and people are still yearning for Okoye, it's like calling for Ejide to take up the number 1spot when there is an Enyeama (Even the Ejide was given the chance to run things as no1 choice in Afcon 2008, we ended up in the quarterfinals). At this point Arthur should be our second choice goalkeeper and Okoye should be registering as our number 3 abeg, that guy is just an Upgraded Uzoho |

Danielnino00: I won't lie, most of our forwards in the last few years have been very annoying.. if not for Osimhen's presence, we may not have had that run we has in 2023 and 2025 AFCON...
That game against Lesotho in Uyo really got on my nerves...we could have been 4-0 up by half time.. If half our players had Osimhen's mentality, we will be better than we are currently..
I know many fans don't like Osimhen due to some of his on pitch behaviour, but nobody can deny that he brings that fighting spirit into the squad anytime he is on the pitch Exactly boss...Other strikers need to learn how to use feeds coming to them from our wingers/midfielders....Watching how Osimhen was making himself open and available for passes and also how he wrestles to get his ball then you will know the reason we didn't qualify for world cup was largely because of other strikers were sleeping in Osimhens absence. -Entered his first 2026 WCQ vs Rwanda (boom connecting and netting a header from a Lookman free kick and also opening up space for Chukwueze assist..boom 2-0!) -vs Zimbabwe, freeing up himself for a cross out boom 1-0!! Also creating assists for Adams VS lesotho -missing out vs SA we went back to factory setting, na defender Bassey help us score again that day (Tolu saw a clean opportunity to nail SA in that potato pitch -coming back again Vs Benin and single handedly tore Benin apart with Hartwick Omo in the absence of Osimhen other strikers are so toothless walai....they don't know how to position/open themselves for sleek passes from midfielder and crosses from wingers, I'm happy chelle is working hard |

ChrisKels: Though missing out on the world cup is already a norm for us, I just have to remind us that if we depend on this midfield and the likes of Simon, we will also not smell the 2030 world cup.
Chelle should prioritise Yah, Ugochukwu, Iorpenda, Iroegbu, Francis Onyeka and Ozoh. Our midfield depth is so shallow and average. Kudos to him for bringing Nwoko on board. We did not miss out on the last 2 world cup editions(esp 2026 wc) because of this midfield, we simply lost out becos of lazy strikers who could not bury simple chances presented to them...those guys were getting good supplies from the midfield in all the group qualifying games. -Go and watch Nigeria vs Lesotho(in uyo and see the way Boniface and Awoniyi and even Lookman were all messing up clean chances, so tay na defender(Ajayi)gave us the equalizer -Go and watch Nigeria vs SA in Uyo, and see how we were just messing up all our chances to bury SA, I won't forget Chukwueze dribble in the box and releasing a looping over Ronwen William which ended up hitting the bar, that would have been the winning goal for us. -Go and watch Zimbabwe vs Nigeria away game, one clean close free kick taken inside the box 18 and a deflection falling bacck to Aribo, baba stood looking like oranminyan staff dey look...That was a winning goal. - Go and watch how lazy our strikers were against Benin after taking the lead from a midfielder.. Osimhen came and change the whole striking mentality. Same thing happened in 2022 qualifiers, Osimhen was present in that one as his maiden WCQ games for Nigeria and he stirred us into the play offs scoring in almost all the qualifying matches played home and away in that edition... In summary, Midfield has never been a reason we failed to qualify to both worldcups cos they have been doing a good job, it's just the laziness of strikers in the absence of Osimhen plus when Osimhen is not scoring nobody is scoring |

If super eagles cannot beat Madagascar home and away then it means Eric Chelle's perfomance with super eagles is now going downward spiral...Cos with all those mind blowing result he gave us at the later end of the world cup qualifiers Rwanda 0-2 Nigeria Nigeria 4-0 Benin Nigeria 4-1 Gabon And also Afcon 2025 tournament Nigeria 2-1 Tanzania Nigeria 2-0 Algeria Nigeria 3-1 Uganda Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique We should leverage on that form to blow aside Tanzania,Madagascar and GNB...same way Arsenal has picked up and continued form where they stopped last season. This same Madagascar wey Ghana trashed home and away during the WCQ even Mali walloped them 4-1 in that qualifiers.... With chelle I have confidence we will beat Madagascar home and away |

Like what Portugal did this WC Bro Spain plays real, crude and direct tiki taka...There game pattern is "come and get the ball if you can"...that's why you see them passing around, then if you decide to sit back, they will surely look for how to unlock you...that's why you don see opponent outscoring them any how..And even with there tikittaka they will still score you with lots of goals. Argentina is my pick to face Spain in the final. Whoever wins between Argentina and Spain in the final is okay with me. Ive read many people wishing England not to win the world cup, because of their media hype... But to me ehn I want them to win it, cos this is the league we all wish all our players to play in...I can't be wishing super eagles players to feature in league that can't win a world cup...what is now the essence of hyping EPL and praying for super eagles to play in their big clubs when it's a mediocre league which the country cannot win world cup. Aside Barca and Madrid I'm sure most of us will not wish and want to see Osimehn play in any other club in La liga compare to how people will wanna wish the option of Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and even Totenham sef). PDPGuy: Based on performances so far, Africa has clearly shown that they rightfully belonged in the tournament. 9 out of the 10 African teams made it out of the first round and most of those that exited in later rounds, made it very tough for their opponents.
So the next time bitter critics such as Gattuso question why Africa deserves 10 World Cup slots, the statistics speak for themselves.
In truth, even 10 places may not be enough. Traditional African heavyweights such as Nigeria and Cameroon failed to qualify for the tournament altogether. Add emerging and consistently competitive nations such as Angola, Zambia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and others, and it becomes clear that the continent possesses far greater depth than many are willing to acknowledge.
Africa deserves at least 4 additional World Cup slots. If achieving that requires expanding the tournament from 48 to 64 teams, as some have proposed, then so be it. The more, the merrier.
Europe could also receive 6 additional places to accommodate strong footballing nations that missed out, such as Italy, Poland, Serbia, the Republic of Ireland, Wales, Romania, Greece, Ukraine, Denmark and Russia, whose absence stems from non-footballing reasons.
The remaining slots could then be allocated to the other confederations. Asia, in particular, should receive around four more places, not necessarily because of its current footballing strength, but because it is home to well over half of the world's population, much of which is consistently underrepresented at the World Cup. Just imagine the global interest if football giants in terms of population like China and India became regular participants. The commercial appeal and worldwide engagement would be enormous.
CONMEBOL and CONCACAF could then share the remaining two slots.
If this tournament has demonstrated anything, it is that football's competitive balance is broader than ever before. The long-held assumption that Europe and South America alone deserve the lion's share of World Cup places is becoming increasingly difficult to justify.
One of the major advantages of expanding the FIFA World Cup to 64 teams is not just that more nations would qualify, but that more countries would also have the opportunity to host the tournament.
Hosting rights are fiercely contested, and unsuccessful bids often leave deserving countries disappointed after years of planning and investment. A 64-team World Cup would require more stadiums and infrastructure, making multi-nation hosting the norm rather than the exception. This would allow more countries and cities to enjoy the economic, tourism and infrastructural benefits that come with staging the world's biggest sporting event. For example, a future UK bid could more meaningfully involve Scotland and Wales alongside England, ensuring that the benefits are shared more widely.
Importantly, expanding to 64 teams would not increase the workload for the participating teams. The eventual champions would still play the same eight matches: three group-stage games followed by the Round of 32, Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The only structural difference would be the elimination of the current system where some third-placed teams advance to the knockout rounds. Every group would simply produce two qualifiers, making the format cleaner and easier to follow.
Neither would the quality of the competition be diluted. As already highlighted, Europe alone had at least ten strong footballing nations miss out on this edition, while Africa had at least six competitive teams fail to qualify. South America also saw Chile miss out despite its rich footballing pedigree. These are countries capable of competing at the highest level and would enhance, rather than weaken, the tournament.
The only confederation where concerns about additional places may arise is Asia. However, the best way to raise standards is through greater participation. Giving more Asian nations the opportunity to compete regularly on the biggest stage would accelerate their development, just as increased exposure has helped African and North American teams improve significantly over the years.
Ultimately, a 64-team World Cup would make football's greatest tournament more inclusive without compromising its competitiveness. It would spread the economic and cultural benefits of hosting to more nations, provide opportunities for deserving teams that narrowly miss qualification under the current format, and further strengthen the global growth of the game.
The Olympic Games cover the whole world, so, nothing unwieldy about Football taking up about a quarter of it with 64 teams.. 4 to 5 African teams supposed to be at the round of 16 if we are serious football playing continent....na real disgrace that 10nations from Africa qualified only 2advanced to round 16.... Too poor |
