I'm sorry to hear about your frustrating experiences at your previous job. It sounds like you put in a lot of effort and achieved significant improvements during your time as acting general manager and accountant. It's understandable that you feel unappreciated and undervalued given the circumstances.

If you have already made the decision to move on from your current position, it's important to focus on finding new opportunities that align with your skills and goals. Here are a few suggestions to help you in your job search:

Update your resume: Make sure your resume highlights your expertise in accounting, finance management, cost accounting, and tax filing. Include any notable accomplishments or achievements that demonstrate your skills and experience.

Network: Tap into your professional network, including colleagues, former classmates, and industry contacts. Inform them that you are seeking new opportunities and ask if they have any leads or can provide recommendations. Networking can often open doors to hidden job opportunities.

Online job platforms: Utilize online job platforms and websites that cater to accounting and finance roles. Explore job listings and submit your applications to positions that match your qualifications and preferences. Tailor your cover letter and resume to each specific job application to showcase your relevant skills and experiences.

Professional organizations: Join professional accounting organizations and attend industry events or webinars. These events provide opportunities to network with professionals in your field and learn about potential job openings.

Recruitment agencies: Consider reaching out to recruitment agencies that specialize in accounting and finance placements. They may have access to job opportunities that are not publicly advertised.

Personal branding: Establish an online presence through platforms like LinkedIn. Create a professional profile that highlights your skills and experiences. Share relevant industry content and engage with others in the accounting and finance community to increase your visibility.

Remember to stay positive and persistent throughout your job search. It may take some time to find the right opportunity, but with your experience and skills, there is a good chance of finding a position where you feel appreciated and valued. Good luck in your job search, and I hope you find a rewarding opportunity soon.

I am an expert in accounting. Finance management, cost accounting and tax filing.

I am confident and ready to relocate.

I remember making a post some years back on the agony of an accountant.

I got promoted to the level of acting general manager where I functioned for a year in the hotel. But without a pay raise.

When I complained on pay raise and also getting an accountant, as I was functioning both as the hotel accountant and the general manager, the chairman requested that I recruit an accountant within which period, he surprises me with a new general manager.
I was then asked to continue my duties as an accountant.

I was surprised as I performed excellently well in my new role as a GM.
Revenue increased from 13m to about 20-25m monthly.

The chairman told me his decision was so because he couldn't get an accountant and I was unable to get one too.

Although I had recommended that the cashier be promoted but he refused.

I couldn't cope with the new boss as he felt unsecured with me.

Eventually I had to resign. Although the chairman has called that we have a chat but I want to move on.

I really don't feel appreciated on the job which will surely affect my performance.

I am using these medium to request for placement wherever possible.
I'm ready to relocate.

Thank you.

For those who didn't see my early post on the AGONY OF AN ACCOUNTANT, here is an extract.
am 29 years old. I have worked for 9years. 2years as an inventory office, 1 year as an inventory manager, 2years as a marketer, 4 years as an accountant.

Here's my story.
I got employed into a hotel as an accountant, when then I was posted from Abuja to kano the head office on an agreed probation period of 3 month then I'll be paid the agreed salary.

I resumed in the Kano office and found out there was no Accounting system, auditing process, inventory management books, vouchers and ledgers and no cashiering system..

I started with the store. I introduced all the store vouchers MRN, SIV, SR, store ledgers, trained the store officer and then I concentrated on the cashier after which I began with the purchasing system.

I introduced the use of PRV, PO/LPO, Waybill, DN and gate pass, trained the purchaser on forecasting and budgeting then I began with the cashier. I strengthened the Accounting system and processes.

And then I was given a task to assist the external auditor solve an issue with tax liabilities to a tune above 20m which was as a result of lack of due diligence on the part of the auditor and inadequate records on the part of the previous Accountant. These liabilities was accumulated from 2016-2019. These task he said was part of my appraisal.

I was able to work with the auditors and we solved the problem all within 5months of my resumption and we even got the tax authorities reimbursing us almost 4.5m.

Here is the problem. My employer has refused to keep to the rules of engagement.

I don't know how to go about these.

Please advise needed from experienced persons.

Thanks

short story of my former neighbor as an accountant

He worked in a private company own by a single individual

the owner has zero regards for accounting ethics and professionalism, he withdraws and deposits money in the company account at will (imagine transferring money from the company account to buy socks for your kid when you could have simply used your private account or someone ask you to help him send some cash to someone, he will ask the person to transfer the money to the company account then from there he transfer to the recipient), when he asks for money and my accountant neighbor as for documentation he shouts at him that he can't teach him how to run his business; when auditor came their account didn't balance, they had issue with tax office over so many irregularities

The owner accused the accountant of not doing his job, the accountant fed up of same reoccurring issue for five years told the owner plainly that the owner is running things like guguru and epa enterprises hence why account will never balance, owner vex and sack my neighbor, my neighbor find it very hard to land another job, and end up going back to his town for a paltry teaching job after 3 years of losing his job

What a very sad real life no balance scenario

I was way younger then, but that's the first time I understand the meaning of joblessness; only acute poverty is worse than joblessness (and they mostly go hand in hand) and when you finally land the job so many ogas won't allow you do the job rather all you will be doing is asslicking them

Exactly the experience here.
I practically struggle to accomplish any fit.
He doesn't seem to have value for Accountant and searches for every slight opportunity to slam me. But I am always on my heels.
Thanks for the revealing end of your neighbor.
It's an insight of the other world.
May we not experience such

No appraisal document even when I designed one, it was neglected as the CEO prefers to appraise anyone he feels is performing.

I don't think it's right to be so condescending. This seemingly awkward comment may actually be the real deal. I have known madmen, village drunks prophesy or speak the truth to those who have ears to hear. The other day, there was a trending video of a madman carrying out classic street evangelism and copiously referencing the holy scriptures to a very attentive crowd.

What I am trying to say is that this advice by Obalize may not be so far-fetched as it appears to be. Most Pentecostal Christians understand the concept of Promise and Fail, working like an elephant and eating like an ant, etc. They are also familiar with village people and Deliverance!

From the Ops analysis, even without a previous agreement, what he has accomplished is enough to earn him early confirmation with pay-rise in many organisations! So why is he having issues with being recognised and compensated by his boss. the tax saving alone could pay for the new salary. Something may or not be wrong with him spiritually. Deliverance doesn't hurt anyone!
.

Thank you.
I'll think about it. Though I am more of a practical person than a spiritual person.
I appreciate your advice.

Its a common experience for Accountant in Business (employed Accountant not working as Consultant). Are you qualified? If not, they must have capitalised on your zeal for the work. If you are already qualified, then the company will lose out at the end.

Already you have good experience that any company will need. Please, if you are not yet qualified, try as much as possible to get your ACA before you make a move, otherwise you will be turning your so cheap the employers hunting to cheap and quack accountant.

Most of the employers for Accountant in Business want to use your experience, but without commensurate remuneration. With your level of experience, you are hot cake. Just try add your ACA.

it's very unfortunate what Accountants face these days. they're forgetting the fact that we are the Back bone of any organization to stand the test of time. same thing happened to me & thank God I was able to overcome it. OP please apply wisdom here, check the organization body language, the agreement you had, is it written or verbal. I faced similar issues last year October. I was able to overcome this because my agreement was written agreement. I was posted from the HQ to a sub branch in Portharcourt. on arriving there, they didn't have a single accounting & book keeping records, their Audit process is nothing to write home about, I had to develop a system for them. this took me 3 months + and I still train the staff there. after every every, They have refused to meet with my demands. here's what I did - I made reference to the initial email on the agreement I had with them, stated all my accomplishments, what I've achieved for the Branch and what I intend doing before end of Q1. I politely requested they honor our attached agreement & looking forward to a rewarding career with them. honestly speaking, the response from them amazed me, they apologise for the delay, immediately passed my Bonuses and allowances, they even paid me for my target bonus I haven't met. sometimes, speaking up politely helps. I wish you well OP.
.

Thank you sir.
It's good you are here. I'll do as you have said.
I pray it comes out positive..

[quote author=dangerousdaddy post=93478393]Good evening people. Please don't mind my English. My post is actually out of pains and frustration and i may not type with the correct words.

I'm a 31 years old guy. I'm actually very bad with spending because when i have money, whoever asks from me gets. I am under alot of pressure lately especially from those around me. I am the 1st child of my parents and have so many responsibilities.

I got my girlfriend pregnant and she moved in with me. My parents were never there for me so i vowed i was going to be there for my kids. Hence i do all i can to make sure my daughter and her mum are OK.

The girl in question is a torn in my flesh. Totally different from when we were dating without a child. Nowadays, as soon as i get my salary, she wants to buy this, she wants to buy that even though she knows i receive less than a 100k and i have multiple loans i am paying back because we moved out of our old apartment due to space constraints especially after she delivered.

Whenever i don't have money, there is never a happy moment in my home. But if i come home and bring money, we become very good friends. She wants to live a good life which is not wrong but I feel when she knows how i am managing, she ought to understand and bear with me.

The last straw that broke the camel's back was, i was yet to be paid, i had 700 with me. I gave her to make some food because we had the basic food stuff in the house.... Rice, beans, ogbono, spaghetti, garri, Egusi.... Palm oil. So basically all she had to buy was fish or something to put inside the food.

I came home after a hard day at work and met an empty kitchen. When I asked for my food, she asked me what i expected her to cook with 700 naira. I got so mad and left the house but since it was late (it was close to midnight), i decided to come back. In my anger, i started asking her why she's treating me badly. And the next thing is, she called her mum to say I'm fighting with her and that i pushed her to the ground. Her mum replied and said that if anything happens to her daughter, she would hold me responsible. That she didn't give me a wife......

Now I feel i should just end everything and let's go our separate ways before it becomes a case of domestic violence. I never want to see my child grow up to see me fighting with her mum always and being unhappy. I believe a child that grows up in an unhappy home is always at a disadvantage. Please help me guys. I am in pains.

Let her go back to her parents. You are still struggling and she's not ready to understand how life plays. That girl is still under the influence of her mum.
Moreso, her mum isn't happy with you and I think they have their plan.
The day anything happens to her, bro that day you will smell your ass.
Let her go home ASAP.
