coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, has described the failure of the national football team to qualify for next year’s African Cup of Nations event as heartbreaking. In a statement posted on his Twitter page after the encounter with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in Uyo on Wednesday, Keshi said, “Our boys showed determination to pull an equaliser, but it was not good enough.” In an interview with online football magazine, goal.com , former Super Eagles star, Austin Okocha, had condemned the lacklustre performance of the team. Blaming the players for the team’s exit, Okocha questioned their passion for the game and patriotism. He said, “I think, to be honest, we will always produce talented players. But the question is whether they are passionate enough. People put pressure on them because it seems they don’t really care about the result. “I think the players must wake up to their collective responsibility. Before they realise it, they are back in African football.” The former captain of the Eagles told goal.com that the players did not take the game seriously until it was too late, saying they would have done well if they had qualified for the finals holding in Equatorial Guinea next year. “I have no doubt that had we managed to qualify, we would have had a good tournament because you have to play really well once it comes to the tournament itself. The qualifiers are sometimes a bit tricky in Africa,” Okocha said. The Nigerian Football Federation has taken full responsibility for the Super Eagles’ exit from the competition, saying it was not the best time to trade blames. But the NFF’s humble position has not stopped thousands of Nigerians, who took to the social media after the match, to express their anger and frustration, blaming the Federal Government, football house, the coach and the players for their roles in the Super Eagles’ failure. According to a statement posted on Twitter by Isioma Isichei, though Keshi may have his shortcomings, the challenges facing the country’s football transcend him. Isichei observed that vigorous policies and long-term goals required to build an efficient national team were lacking. She added that the NFF could avoid a recurrence of such a disappointing Nations Cup campaign in the future by focusing on the development of Nigerian football and not through monetary benefits. Arguing on Facebook, Rachael Mayomi noted that Keshi’s decisions lacked depth. She said the home-based players, whom he refused to use, could have performed better during the game. Ugbah Lorenzo chided the coach for his failure to understand the mentality of foreign players. He said their local counterparts would naturally need a win – a fact that Keshi took for granted – just as Adesoye Alaoluwa argued that the poor performance was an indication that the country had no quality footballer. The exit, he said, provided football administrators an opportunity to rid the national team of mediocres and to embark on a process of rebuilding it. But Precious Eghaghe was not surprised by the failure of the defending champions to qualify because, according to him, NFF had engaged in a self-destructive mission. Meanwhile, fans of the Peoples Democratic Party and the opposition have seized the ousting of the Super Eagles to trade blame on who is responsible. Responding to the story on The Punch , Jarjah said the NFF “nearly saved Nigeria this embarrassment” until Jonathan interfered in the process and directed that Keshi be recalled. Several other individuals expressed the same opinion, blaming the sad result on the President’s interference. But Kim Roland said the reference to Jonathan’s intervention in the crisis as being responsible was a cheap argument. He said those who blamed the President were only seeking a cheap point for the opposition party. Cop |

Meanwhile, Maiduguri has been relatively calm for months without any attack from the extremist sect although residents still express fear that the town might be attack at any time following repeated threats from Boko Haram, the sect that claim responsibility for thousands of deaths. It was further learnt that similar explosions were recorded on Friday and Saturday last week at about the same time. Meanwhile, no fewer than 45 persons were reportedly killed by Boko Haram on Wednesday in a recent attack on Azaya Kura village of Borno State. However, President Goodluck Jonathan while speaking in London at the opening of the meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investment Council (HIIC) said the Federal Government is winning the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency and took a swipe at sections of the media over their reportage on the crisis. This are indeed not the best times for koko master, and has a matter of fact this is the first time I am hearing D’banj being in a mess over money. Now a Technology company, MindHub Technologies is claiming D’banj is owing them the sum of $240,000,000 and another N15,000,000, which the artiste has not denied but issued them post-dated cheques which were bounced back. MindHub Technologies who now speaks with D’banj through their lawyers after all efforts made by them for him to pay proved abortive said D’banj has only deemed it fit since last year to pay only N8,600,000 out of the N15,000,000 and has not paid a single penny form the $240,000,000. “We act as Solicitors to MINDHUB TECHNOLOGIES LTD (hereinafter called “OUR CLIENT”), and on whose instruction we write you this letter in the manner stated hereunder. It is our brief that sometime in January 2013 in Lagos, you signed a Personal Guarantee/ Memorandum of Undertaking with our client wherein you agreed/undertook to pay our client the investment fund of N100,000,000.00k (One Hundred Million Naira Only) given to D KINGS MEDIA LIMITED by our client, should the latter default in payment of the debt. The said debt is made up of Nigerian and United States of America’s currencies,” the letter addressed to him stated. The case is already in a Lagos high court and due for hearing, why it has been almost impossible for months now to serve D’banj, because he has been outside the country, while some however claim the major reason D’banj has been in the US is because he does not want to be served. Whatever that means we hope they settle this fast.[img]This are indeed not the best times for koko master, and has a matter of fact this is the first time I am hearing D’banj being in a mess over money. •After passing Microsoft Windows exam at 5 Ayan Qureshi recently passed the ‘Supporting Microsoft Windows 8.1’ assessment examination, a feat which made him at five years and 11 months, become the youngest ever to pass the exam. A schoolboy has become the world’s youngest qualified computer specialist after passing a Microsoft Windows exam at the age of just five. Ayan Qureshi has only just started primary school, but passed the test at Birmingham City University to become a Microsoft Certified Professional. According to the Daily Mail of Uk, in doing so, he has set a new world record for the youngest person ever to pass a Microsoft exam - at the age of five years and 11 months, beating the previous record held by six-year-old Mehroz Yawar from Pakistan. Ayan was first introduced to computers when he was just three, by his father Asim, 43, who soon realised his son’s natural aptitude for technology. The IT consultant then built his son a computer lab at the family’s home in Coventry, West Midlands and started preparing Ayan for the complex Microsoft test. After just five months training, Ayan sat the “Supporting Windows 8.1” assessment for IT professionals alongside several adult candidates, even though at five he will not be able to work for another eight years. Ayan breezed through the two hour exam in September and even finished with time to spare before finding out shortly afterwards he had passed. “We are just so proud of him,” said Mr Qureshi. “He has plans to take an advanced test in the future but he has to concentrate on school for now. “He was very interested in computers from the age of three so I started explaining to him about hardware and software and installing programmes. “I found that whatever I told him, he was able to remember it the next day, so I built a computer lab in our house for him to use, and he loves it. “I showed him how to install Windows and then decided to enter him for this exam. “It wasn’t easy teaching him every day but he picked it all up in the end.’ When Ayan, now six, and his father arrived at the university invigilators were so shocked to see such a young candidate and they said he couldn’t take the exam. However, a phone call to Microsoft rectified the problem and Ayan took his place at a computer alongside the other adult candidates. “There was just a room full of adults there when we went to take the test on a Saturday, but I’m not sure if they all passed or not,’ said Mr Qureshi. “He wants to keep on learning so I am sure he will be ready to take more exams quite soon. He’s incredible really. “He enjoys playing computer games like any kid but now he is more interested about how they work.” The test is normally taken just before or after university by young adults aiming to be information technology technicians. Sections of the assessment included multiple choice, fill in the blanks, drag and drop, and several scenario based questions. The computer based outline test examined the applicants’ knowledge of hardware, software, and their understanding of how Windows works. And the certificate, which he keeps in his bedroom, shows he can use operating systems created by USA computing giant Microsoft. Ayan, who has a younger brother Rayn, three, has also undertaken some distance learning lessons from London based computer training company IT Bolts. He was born in Lahore, Pakistan, but his father and mother Mamoona, 34, who is training to become a GP, moved to London in 2009. The youngster is yet to decide on a career path but hopes for a job involving his favourite subjects of maths and co |
