SportsCarragher To Man United: Sack Ruben Amorim Immediately by MisterGrace(op): 10:30am On Sep 30, 2025
Jamie Carragher Brands Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United Spell a Disaster

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has slammed Ruben Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United, describing it as “a disaster for both the club and the manager.” His comments followed United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford, a result that leaves the club languishing in 14th place in the Premier League with just 34 points from 33 games under the Portuguese coach.

Carragher: United and Amorim Must Move On

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher argued that United’s hierarchy are reluctant to dismiss Amorim because it would expose yet another failed decision at the top.

“This has been a disaster for Manchester United but also for Ruben Amorim. What he did at Sporting Lisbon was fantastic. He looked like the next big thing as a manager. But bringing a manager like that in with the system he plays, I don’t think ever suited a club like Manchester United with its traditions.”

Carragher insisted that “the quicker they make the decision on the manager, the better for everybody,” emphasizing that United need to accept the reality and bring in a coach more suited to the squad.

United’s Current Struggles

The loss to Brentford further highlighted United’s poor form, with fans frustrated at the lack of progress since Amorim’s appointment. The club’s record of 34 points from 33 matches is among the worst in its Premier League history.

What Next for Manchester United?

While Amorim was highly rated after his success at Sporting Lisbon, Carragher argued his tactical system has never aligned with United’s style and traditions. Pressure is mounting on the board to make a decisive call, with speculation intensifying over possible replacements who could guide the club back into Europe.

PoliticsNigerian Bar Association Protests At Navy Dockyard In Lagos Over Rule Of Law by MisterGrace(op): 12:38pm On Sep 12, 2025

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzX_rhIeTfg

Tensions ran high today at the Nigerian Navy Dockyard as members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) staged a rare public protest. The demonstration was aimed at demanding accountability from government institutions, respect for the rule of law, and better protection of lawyers’ rights.

Why the Lawyers Took to the Streets

Led by senior members of the Bar, protesters marched to the Navy Dockyard in the early hours to present a list of grievances. Among their demands were:

Respect for Legal Practice – An end to what they described as intimidation of legal practitioners by security operatives.

End Arbitrary Arrests and Detentions – Immediate release of members allegedly detained without due process.

Oversight and Accountability – Investigations into alleged rights violations by police, naval, and paramilitary officers.

Rule of Law and Independence of the Bar – A call for lawyers to be allowed to operate without interference from political or security institutions.

Statement from NBA Lagos President

The protest was led by Uchenna Akingbade, the recently inaugurated President of the Lagos Branch of the NBA and notably the first woman to hold the position. Addressing journalists, she said the association was compelled to act because of repeated violations against lawyers in the line of duty.

“We cannot allow intimidation and disregard for due process to become normalized. Our demand is simple: uphold the rule of law and respect the independence of the Bar,” Akingbade stated.

Navy’s Response and Next Steps

While the protest was largely peaceful, eyewitnesses reported that naval authorities received the NBA’s petition but made no immediate commitments. The NBA leadership has vowed to continue pressing its demands until concrete actions are taken.

This marks one of the first large-scale lawyers protects on Lagos in recent memory, signaling what many believe could be a new direction for the association under Akingbade’s leadership.

Osun: Gov. Adeleke Empowers 2,000 Women, Youths with POS Terminals, Start-Up Grants

By Andrew Haruna | The Bureau News

Osogbo, Nigeria – Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to poverty reduction, inclusivity, and economic empowerment through practical initiatives that equip residents with tools for self-reliance.

Speaking at the Imole Empowerment Scheme 1.0 in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke disclosed that his government has empowered 2,000 women and youths with Point of Sale (POS) terminals, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) business registration certificates, and start-up grants.

According to the governor, the programme is designed not just as a one-off intervention but as a structured plan to help beneficiaries acquire skills, opportunities, and business support that will enable them to thrive.

“This initiative is built on capacity building and training to help our women and youths grow and expand their businesses,” Governor Adeleke stated.

Commissioner for Cooperatives and Empowerment, Bayo Ogungbangbe, noted that since the ministry’s creation in July 2023, it has spearheaded cooperative development and grassroots empowerment programmes across Osun State.

Governor Adeleke urged beneficiaries to put the start-up grants to good use, stressing that the scheme was not only about financial aid but about creating a ripple effect of sustainable businesses that would strengthen the state’s economy.

“I charge all beneficiaries to use these resources wisely, grow your businesses, and become worthy ambassadors of this noble initiative,” he added.

HealthLassa Fever Outbreak: NCDC Confirms 80 Deaths, 413 Cases Across 11 States by MisterGrace(op): 11:32pm On Feb 23, 2025
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed 80 deaths and 413 cases of Lassa fever across 11 states between February 3rd and 9th. The outbreak has seen a fatality rate surge to 19.4%, a significant rise from 17.5% recorded in the same period last year.

Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi Worst Hit

The NCDC reports that Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi states account for 73% of all confirmed cases, with Ondo alone recording 34%. Despite a drop in new cases from 68 in the previous week to 54, concerns remain over the rising death toll.

The most affected age group is between 21 and 30 years old, with slightly more males than females contracting the disease.

NCDC’s Response and Preventive Measures

To combat the outbreak, the NCDC has activated its Incident Management System and deployed rapid response teams to Gombe, Nasarawa, and Benue states. Measures include:

- Training healthcare workers on early detection and treatment

- Strengthening surveillance and case management

- Distributing medical supplies, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and essential drugs

The agency is urging Nigerians to take preventive steps such as proper food storage, maintaining clean surroundings, and avoiding contact with rodents. Individuals experiencing symptoms like fever, sore throat, or unexplained bleeding are advised to seek immediate medical attention.

Nationwide Rodent Control Campaign Planned

As part of its prevention efforts, the NCDC, in collaboration with Breakthrough Action Nigeria and other partners, is planning a nationwide rodent control and awareness campaign to curb the spread of the disease.

With the rising fatality rate, the NCDC continues to emphasize early detection and rapid response as key strategies to containing the outbreak.

TravelNigerians In UK Protest Against Rising Certificate Of Sponsorship Scams by MisterGrace(op): 4:52pm On Feb 23, 2025
A group of Nigerians living in the United Kingdom took to the streets of London on Thursday, protesting against the growing number of Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) scams that have left many victims stranded and financially ruined.

The protest, which took place at Marsham Street, in front of the UK Home Office, was led by Christiana Olabisi, also known as Ferrari, who used a megaphone to call on victims to speak out.

“Enough is Enough” – Protesters Speak Out

Olabisi, in a live video on TikTok, urged victims to report fraudsters, warning that silence would only embolden them.

“No more scamming. Enough is enough. Whether you like it or not, all of you are going to get reported.
We are here waiting for you. Don’t let anyone scare you with deportation. If anyone has collected money from you, this is the time to speak up. Tomorrow may be too late.”

The demonstrators also displayed a banner listing 30 alleged fraudsters who have been accused of collecting thousands of pounds from unsuspecting immigrants in exchange for fake CoS documents.

Victims Share Their Ordeals

The CoS scheme, designed to allow UK-licensed organizations to sponsor skilled foreign workers, has been exploited by fraudulent agents and companies who charge exorbitant fees for sponsorships that often turn out to be fake.

During the protest, several victims shared their heartbreaking experiences:

1. A man recounted how his friend lost £15,000, paying an agent to secure a CoS for his family, only to end up stranded in Manchester.

2. Ehizojie Joy, a Nigerian who has been in the UK for two years, revealed that despite paying £10,000, she has only been able to secure 20-hour shifts from another employer.

3. Another victim lost £12,000, stating that the company that took the money stopped answering calls.

4. Musa Eunice, a content creator, revealed that her cousin lost £20,000 to fraudsters.

Many of the victims said they were left without jobs, relying on food banks for survival.

Scam Reports on the Rise

Reports of CoS fraud have increased significantly, with investigations by Sky News (2023) and Daily Mail (2024) exposing fraudulent companies exploiting immigrants.

One of the most shocking cases involved a Baptist minister, who was caught on camera charging £9,000 to secure a job in three days.

A migrant also revealed that he paid £6,000 cash at a company’s office in Northwest England, but never received a sponsorship.

Accused Individuals Deny Allegations

One of the alleged fraudsters named on the protest banner, Mojisola, denied the allegations, stating that she had already taken legal action to clear her name.

“The allegations made against me on social media are completely false. I have commenced legal actions, and as this matter is now before the court, I will not be making any further comments,” she told journalists.

NiDCOM Urges Legal Action

Reacting to the protest, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) urged affected individuals to seek legal redress.

“Visa scams are a serious concern,” said NiDCOM’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.
“My advice is that they should tread cautiously as they protest and remain law-abiding while registering their displeasure.”

Meanwhile, the UK Home Office has yet to respond to the protest or confirm any ongoing investigations into the scam allegations.

PoliticsFarmers To Get Single-digit Loans As FG Boosts Food Security by MisterGrace(op): 9:15pm On Feb 21, 2025
Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the federal government’s commitment to supporting local farmers through targeted interventions, including single-digit loans, to reduce production costs and tackle Nigeria’s food security challenges.

Speaking at the steering committee meeting of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU) at the Presidential Villa, Shettima emphasized the need for strategic government support to cushion farmers from economic pressures.

“We need to support our local farmers. Give them single-digit loans. The Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit has metamorphosed into an incubator beyond being an advisory body,” Shettima said.
Governors to Engage Brazilian Delegation on Food Security

According to a statement signed by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima directed Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru to engage with a Brazilian delegation to address food security concerns.

Governor Nwifuru stressed the need for clear priorities for farmers and better planning before each farming season.

Meanwhile, Marion Moon, Technical Assistant to the President on Agriculture and PFSCU coordinator, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making food affordable for all citizens while incentivizing increased production to maintain food stability.

PoliticsNigerian Government Moves To Scrap Visa-on-arrival Policy by MisterGrace(op): 9:07pm On Feb 21, 2025
Nigeria to Phase Out Visa-on-Arrival, Introduce Automated Landing Cards

The Federal Government has announced plans to abolish the Visa-on-Arrival policy, replacing it with an automated landing and exit card system to enhance security and streamline immigration processes.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja at the closing ceremony of the Advanced Passenger Information/Passenger Name Record (API/PNR) training for Immigration officers.

New Visa System to Strengthen Security Checks

According to the minister, the Visa-on-Arrival system is no longer effective, as it allows visitors to enter Nigeria without prior screening. The new automated system, expected to launch between March 1 and April 1, 2025, will ensure that all visitors undergo real-time security checks before entry.

“Nigeria will not be a safe haven for criminals. Visitors must fill digital landing cards before arriving, and the process will be fully integrated with immigration and security systems worldwide,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated.
The system will be linked to Interpol databases and criminal record systems, preventing visas from being issued to individuals with security risks.

Immigration Officers Undergo Training

Meanwhile, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs. Kemi Nandap, emphasized the importance of capacity building to effectively implement the new security initiative. She confirmed that over 100 immigration officers have been trained in preparation for the transition.

PoliticsNIN Fraud? 6,000 Nigeriens Found In Database, Tinubu Orders Immediate Cleanup by MisterGrace(op): 11:58am On Feb 08, 2025
6,000 Illegal Nigeriens Found in NIN Database as FG Moves to Clean Up Social Register

Abuja, Nigeria – February 7, 2025

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has identified and removed over 6,000 non-Nigerians, primarily Nigerien nationals, who were illegally registered in its National Identification Number (NIN) database.

The discovery comes as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed an inter-ministerial committee to ensure a comprehensive and fraud-free National Social Register for the Federal Government’s social investment programs, including student loans and cash transfer schemes.

Database Cleanup Underway

Sources within the Presidency confirmed that the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, briefed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Tuesday, February 4, regarding ongoing efforts to sanitize NIMC’s database. The illegal NINs, which were reportedly obtained through fraudulent registrations, have now been expunged.

According to the sources, the cleanup is crucial for ensuring that only legitimate Nigerian citizens benefit from government welfare programs. The humanitarian ministry and the education ministry require accurate data to administer cash transfers and student loans, preventing funds from being misallocated.

A senior government official explained:

“The President does not want money disbursed to people who cannot be identified. NIMC is ensuring that the database is verified and cleaned up. More Nigerians are also being registered to ensure that only those who genuinely need assistance receive it.”
Following the FEC meeting, President Tinubu directed the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Interior Minister, Tunji-Ojo, to join the existing presidential panel overseeing the humanitarian ministry’s operations.

Illegal NIN Registration in Border Areas

Investigations revealed that unauthorized NIN registrations have been occurring in border communities, where some corrupt agents allegedly registered foreign nationals for a fee. In 2022, Nigerian security forces arrested two fake NIMC officials who were caught enrolling non-Nigerians at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Niger Republic.

Items recovered from them included NIN registration machines, printing and laminating devices, and a generator. The fraudulent practice has raised concerns about security risks and unauthorized access to Nigerian identity credentials.

Ensuring Transparency in Government Welfare Programs

Speaking on the importance of the cleanup, NIMC Director-General Bisoye Coker-Odusote emphasized that the exercise would enhance transparency in social investment programs.

“This process ensures that government payments go to real and verifiable beneficiaries. By linking NIN to payments, we eliminate ghost beneficiaries and ensure funds reach those who truly need them.”
She added that the National Social Register, which houses details of all welfare beneficiaries, must now be linked to NIN to verify identities before disbursement.

Security Experts Call for Political Will

Security analysts argue that while undocumented foreigners holding NINs is not a new issue, the government must demonstrate stronger political will to stop it.

Retired Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh stated:

“Nigeria’s porous borders have long allowed undocumented foreigners to move freely. Unlike Nigeria, countries like Chad and Cameroon do not allow such laxity. The government’s effort is commendable, but there is still much to be done.”
With the latest crackdown on fraudulent NIN registrations, the Tinubu administration aims to strengthen national security and ensure that social investment programs serve only legitimate Nigerian citizens.

PoliticsOver 200 Suspected Illegal Immigrants Uncovered In Kebbi, 165 Arrested by MisterGrace(op): 12:45am On Feb 06, 2025
The Kebbi State Police Command has reported the discovery of over 200 suspected illegal immigrants living in a three-bedroom flat in the Kuwait area of Birnin Kebbi. In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s spokesman, Nafiu Abubakar, revealed that 165 of the suspects were arrested, while the rest managed to escape.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation on January 31, 2025, at approximately 5 p.m., after security operatives uncovered the large group living in the flat. A team of detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department conducted the raid, apprehending 165 individuals in the process.

According to Abubakar, preliminary investigations indicated that the immigrants were from several Francophone West African countries. The breakdown of their nationalities is as follows: 35 from Burkina Faso, 11 from Benin Republic, 5 from Niger Republic, 4 from Mali, and 110 from Ivory Coast.

Further investigations revealed that none of the individuals possessed valid travel documents, and they were allegedly involved in the Qnet Ponzi scheme, a fraudulent investment platform known for defrauding unsuspecting victims.

Following the preliminary investigation, the police have handed over the suspects to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kebbi State Command, for further inquiries and legal proceedings.

This operation comes amid a broader national effort to curb irregular migration. Last week, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed that Nigeria had deported at least 828 illegal immigrants in 2024 as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national security.

BusinessTech Giant, IBM Announces Exit From Nigeria And Ghana, Others African Nations by MisterGrace(op): 12:15am On Feb 06, 2025
IBM Announces Exit from Nigeria and Ghana, Transfers Operations to MIBB

International Business Machines (IBM) has revealed plans to exit Nigeria, Ghana, and other key African markets, transferring its regional operations to MIBB, a subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate Midis Group. The transition will take effect from 1 April 2025 as part of a new operating model in select African countries.

MIBB will assume responsibility for marketing and selling IBM’s range of products and services across 36 African nations. This includes providing direct access to IBM’s software, hardware, cloud solutions, and consulting services. According to an email sent to TechCabal, MIBB will also oversee operations, support, and customer relationships in the region.

IBM has had a significant presence in Nigeria for over five decades, playing a crucial role in the country’s technology landscape. The company provided infrastructure and consulting services to key sectors, including banking, telecommunications, oil and gas, and government. Its high-end storage and computing solutions were especially popular among financial institutions such as Zenith Bank.

However, IBM’s market share in Nigeria has declined in recent years due to growing competition from companies like Dell and Huawei, which have increased their presence in the banking sector.

On the global front, IBM has been facing financial challenges. In 2024, the company reported a 2% drop in consulting revenue, totaling 5.18 billion USD, while infrastructure sales decreased by 8%. Despite this, IBM’s overall revenue increased by 1%, reaching 17.55 billion USD, largely driven by a 10% growth in software sales, which amounted to 7.92 billion USD. The company also posted a net income of 2.92 billion USD for the fourth quarter and expects a minimum of 5% revenue growth in 2025, buoyed by a projected free cash flow of 13.5 billion USD.

IBM’s exit from West Africa marks the end of its direct operations in the region, creating uncertainty about the long-term impact on local businesses and government partnerships. While MIBB’s takeover may offer new opportunities for innovation and support, businesses that rely on IBM’s services will need to adjust to the changes. The full effects of this transition will become clearer in the months ahead as the African technology landscape adapts to the new operational model.
