PhonesThis Scary Secret Iphone Menu Shows All The Places You Frequently Visit by mitnick(op): 11:08am On Jul 04, 2015
An alarming ‘secret’ menu on iPhone which shows all the places you frequently visit has been highlighted in a Facebook video this week.

The menu has alarmed users because it could reveal details of their private lives - and, more worryingly, could tell a thief exactly where someone’s house is.

The menu stores information generated by iPhone’s location systems - and is buried deep within your iPhone’s menu.

Thankfully, you can turn it off.

To see what’s in yours, go to Settings, then Privacy, then Location Services. Then tap the System Services menu and scroll down to Frequent Locations menu.

A viral video explaining how to switch it off hit Facebook this week, uploaded by Melody Puckett.

Puckett said, ‘Important: there’s a privacy setting on your iPhone that if not turned off, shows a map with dates and times of your frequent locations, including your home.

‘I made a quick video showing what it shows and how to turn it off. It’s frightening to think that someone with bad intentions could find your home and work, and know what times you are usually there. Shame on Apple. Feel free to share with friend

CrimeFive Charged In Nationwide Identity Theft Scheme by mitnick(op): 10:28pm On May 22, 2015
Conspirators obtain identity information of 125,000 taxpayers and submit alleged false federal income tax returns seeking $6.6 million in refunds from IRS

MEDFORD, Ore. – Federal law enforcement agents arrested four individuals in conjunction with a series of search and arrest warrants executed in Maryland and Georgia based on an Oregon federal grand jury indictment unsealed today.

The individuals arrested were:

Lateef Aina Animawun, 34, of Smyrna, Georgia;
Oluwatobi Rueben Dehinbo, 30, of Marietta, Georgia;
Oluwaseunara Temitope Osanyinbi, 34, of Marietta, Georgia; and
Oluwamuyiwa Abolad Olawoye, 28, of Marietta, Georgia.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a fifth defendant, Emmanuel Oluwatosin Kazeem of Maryland. The remaining four defendants have made an initial appearance in Georgia, and will be arraigned in the District of Oregon at a date to be set by the Court.

The indictment alleges that, beginning at least as early as tax year 2012, the named defendants, along with others, engaged in an identity theft conspiracy, in Oregon and elsewhere, involving a scheme to obtain millions of dollars in fraudulent tax refunds from the IRS and the Oregon Department of Revenue. The allegations of the indictment detail how the conspirators spun a complex web of fraud involving the use of stolen personal identifying information (PII), falsified wage and withholding information, fraudulently generated electronic filing PINs, disposable email addresses to conceal the co-conspirators’ identities, and the receipt of fraudulent tax refunds through prepaid debit cards and third party bank accounts.

According to the indictment, the defendants and their co-conspirators allegedly obtained the names and other personal identifying information that belonged to United States taxpayers, without their knowledge or consent, by unauthorized means including the purchase of the stolen information. The stolen PII belonged to over 125,000 people and included stolen PII originating from a database owned by a pre-employment and volunteer background check company located in Oregon (the “Oregon Database”).

In total, defendants are alleged to have unlawfully obtained the identity information from a data breach of over 125,000 taxpayers and filed over 980 false federal tax returns seeking over $6.6 million in fraudulent refunds. Although the IRS rejected $4.6 million of the claimed refunds, the indictment alleges that the defendants successfully obtained $2 million in illegal refunds.

The indictment, which may be viewed here “kazeem_et_al_indictment.pdf“, charges each defendant with one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud; seven counts of mail fraud; six counts of wire fraud; and thirteen counts of aggravated identity theft. The fraud and conspiracy charges are each punishable by up to 30 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $1 million. If convicted of the aggravated identity theft charges, defendants face a mandatory minimum penalty of two years in federal prison for each count of conviction. An indictment is only an allegation of a crime. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case results from a joint investigation by IRS-Criminal Investigations Division, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with support provided by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, United States Postal Inspection Service, the U.S. State Department, and the Oregon Department of Revenue Fraud Unit. This case is being prosecuted by District of Oregon Assistant U.S. Attorneys Byron Chatfield and Nancy Olson.

Considering the amount of gas being flared, I believe it will do us enough good if the gas is utilized.
On states getting involved in power, the FG can only be sincere if it gives states the permission to distribute power, as they (the states) have the right to generate power. Some states have built power plants that can serve them, but can't distribute it because it is in the exclusive list.
@ the bolded, this is the major problem we have in this country, some states do not want to tap into the natural resources they have, they expect everything from fed govt and tax.

Gas is cheap.
Good. What about countries that use other means to generate electricity isnt it not expensive?? I think Nigerians dont mid the cost as long as the service is available.
PoliticsRe: What General Buhari Must Do To Fix Power In Nigeria by mitnick(m): 9:31am On May 15, 2015
My own opinion on generating more electricity to the National Grid is for the federal government to allow each state to get license to generate electricity using whatever means they can use to support the National Grid. The person who initially advised on the usage of Gas didnt forsee that someday gas will finish, there will be damaging of pipelines etc.
We can use coal, wind mill etc to generate.
The Big question is Why depend on Gas??

ComputersMicrosoft Is Killing Off The Internet Explorer Brand by mitnick(op): 9:04am On Mar 18, 2015
While Microsoft has dropped hints that the Internet Explorer brand is going away, the software maker has now confirmed that it will use a new name for its upcoming browser successor, codenamed Project Spartan. Speaking at Microsoft Convergence yesterday, Microsoft’s marketing chief Chris Capossela revealed that the company is currently working on a new name and brand. “We’re now researching what the new brand, or the new name, for our browser should be in Windows 10,” said Capossela. “We’ll continue to have Internet Explorer, but we’ll also have a new browser called Project Spartan, which is codenamed Project Spartan. We have to name the thing.”

Internet Explorer will still exist in some versions of Windows 10 mainly for enterprise compatibility, but the new Project Spartan will be named separately and will be the primary way for Windows 10 users to access the web. Microsoft has tried, unsuccessfully, to shake off the negative image of Internet Explorer over the past several years with a series of amusing campaigns mocking Internet Explorer 6. The ads didn’t improve the situation, and Microsoft’s former Internet Explorer chief left the company in December, signalling a new era for the browser.

Related: RIP Internet Explorer (1995 - 2015). We Knew Ye Too Well.

Capossela also detailed the power of using the Microsoft brand over just Windows or Internet Explorer, and showed off some research data on a new name for the company’s browser vs. Internet Explorer. Putting Microsoft in front of the new secret name increased the appeal to some Chrome users in the UK. “Just by putting the Microsoft name in front of it, the delta for Chrome users on appeal is incredibly high,” says Capossela.

Microsoft is clearly testing names with market research, but it’s unclear when the company plans to unveil the final name for its Internet Explorer successor. Judging by Microsoft’s own research, it’s obvious the company will move as far away from Internet Explorer as possible, and it’s likely Project Spartan will have the Microsoft name attached to it.

Elsewhere in Capossela’s talk, the Microsoft executive also discussed the ways the company will make money in future, and clever ways the company is making use of social media. Microsoft has started to use artists to respond to Twitter users with personalised images, and at least one from the Xbox team was successful at creating attention with an impressive 35,000 retweets. It’s all part of improving Microsoft’s brand perception, and a general admission from the company that it’s ready to be loved again.
