Education › University Authority To Expel 4,000 Students For “investing” In MMM by mmb(op): 4:15am On Mar 03, 2017 |
The Management of the University of Osun has reportedly threatened to expel over 4,000 students for allegedly ”investing” their school fees in the popular Ponzi scheme, Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox, MMM. According to reports, a statement was issued by the acting registrar of the institution, Gafar Shitu revealing that the affected students are yet to remit fees amounting to over 2 billion naira. Vanguard reported. Read the statement below, “Over 4000 students of Osun State University may lose their studentship for failing to pay their school fees before the expiration of February 28, 2017, deadline set by the university management. “No fewer than 400 parents/guardians of the defaulting students have called the University help lines to report that they had long given money to their children/wards. “The university Senate at its meeting of January 26, 2017, after observing that a large number of students had refused to turn up in spite of ceaseless appeals, decided that the students’ portal be reopened longer into the 12th week of resumption against the four weeks stipulated in the University regulations. “The decision of the University Senate, which was adequately communicated to all the students on February 2, 2017, was to afford more students the opportunity to pay their fees with effect from 17th to 24th February 2017, a date which was later extended until February 28, 2017. “On 16 February 2017, some students embarked on a protest against the enforcement of extant rules and regulations regarding fee payment and registration. “Investigations show that over 90 percent of the protesters had not registered for between two and 11 semesters, and were thus using the stipulated late registration penalty of N10, 000 as a smokescreen for their years of defaulting in fee payment and registration.” http://dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/university-authority-to-expel-4-000-students-for-investing-in-mmm/187566.html#m6isET9rMxVfchyH.99cc: lalasticlala, osinbajo, emefiele, NDIC,EFCC, mynd44 |

Culture › Emir Sanusi Wants To Stop Poor Men From Marrying More Than One Wife by mmb(op): 6:43am On Feb 21, 2017 |
The Emir is seeking to propose a law which will expect men to fulfill certain conditions before they can qualify for polygamy.
He made the revelation on Sunday, February 19, while speaking at the 50th death anniversary of Ambassador Isa Wali in Abuja, Punch reports.
“Those of us in the North have all seen the economic consequences of men who are not capable of maintaining one wife, marrying four. They end up producing 20 children, not educating them, leaving them on the streets, and they end up as thugs and terrorists,” the Emir said.
“It is perhaps a tribute to Mallam Isa that today, as I speak, in the palace in Kano a sub-committee of scholars, which I set up and has been working for about a year, is finalising the final sections of a family law we intend to introduce in Kano which will address some of the issues that Mallam Isa was concerned about.
“The law will address what Islam says on marriage, it will outlaw forced marriages, it will make domestic violence illegal, it will put in conditions that you need to fulfil before you can marry a second wife, it will spell out the responsibilities of a father beyond producing a child.
“It is a big law which covers a whole range of issues from consent to marriage, to maintenance to divorce, to maintenance of children and inheritance. It will be the first time in northern Nigeria that a Muslim law on personal status will be codified,” he added.
Sanusi also said that he had been able to establish a connection between polygamy, poverty and terrorism. http://pulse.ng/local/sanusi-lamido-emir-of-kano-wants-to-stop-poor-men-from-marrying-more-than-one-wife-id6252067.html

Politics › Re: Yar'adua Is Sick, Impeach Him Now! - Buhari Says In 2010 by mmb(m): 8:39pm On Feb 09, 2017 |
Emeks008: On March 9, 2010, something happened
which given the state of Nigeria right now,
can best be described as the mother of all
ironies.
The Nigerian president in that year was
Umar Musa Yar'Adua and he had been
sick and away from the country for a
while. The then vice president, Goodluck
Jonathan, was made the acting president
and the entire country was confused
about the exact state of Yar'Adua's
health.
Then an opposition leader, General
Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), joined the
growing number of Nigerians to call for
the removal of President Umaru Musa
Yar'Adua.
According to the This Day article dated
March 9, 2010, President Buhari
maintained that the only viable option
out of the present political logjam in the
country was for the Executive Council of
the Federation (EXCOF) to declare the
president incapacitated and have him
impeached.
Buhari, in 2010, said Nigeria should not
have been in the situation it was in the
first instance because the constitution
had made it clear on how an ailing
president could be succeeded.
Insisting on Yar'Adua's impeachment,
he said the refusal of the council to
follow constitutional provisions with
regards to the illness of the then
president had thrown Nigeria into crisis
and he argued that the 1999
Constitution was clear on the issue of
succession when an incumbent
president is incapacitated.
Buhari, who is the president now, said
all this when he received members of
the National Unity Forum in Kaduna
who paid him a solidarity visit.
Goodluck Jonathan was not spared, as
the former military ruler criticized
what he described as "extra-
constitutional measures", the measures
applied by the National Assembly to
empower Goodluck Jonathan as the
acting president when the constitution
already had a solution to the problem.
Below were his words from March 2010:
"Political expediency won't remedy this
kind of problem because if the Executive
Council of the Federation had acted in
accordance with the constitution, by
invoking the necessary sections to
declare the President incapacitated, we
would not have found ourselves in this
present situation.
"As you can see, adopting extra-
constitutional measures have not
addressed the problem. If it had, we
would not have been subjected to the
raging debates and controversy going on.
So, we must go back to the constitution.
"The Executive Council of the Federation
must do the right thing because once we
start moving away from the constitution,
then we are inviting anarchy.” i pity you PDP |
