The presidency plans to spend N5.6 billion for rehabilitation and repairs of residential buildings in Aso Rock next year. This figure is about nine times what the presidency spent for the same purpose in 2016, an analysis of the 2017 proposed budget estimates presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari recently has revealed. Official figures show that the federal government spent N642.5 million for the rehabilitation and repairs of residential buildings in the seat of power in 2016. In 2015, the government had spent twice what it spent for the Aso Rock buildings this year according to budget details analysed by Daily Trust. The presidency had spent N1.12 billion for the “rehabilitation and repairs of official buildings” in 2015. The State House is also planning to spend N135 million on fuel cost. It spent N81 million in 2016 and N65.9 million in 2015 for the same purpose. On honorarium and sitting allowances, the State House is proposing to spend N556 million next year, according to the budget proposals. The item gulped N507 million in 2016 and N174 million in 2015. The budget proposals show that the State House will spend N319 million on electricity charges. This figure is about seven times what the government spent on the State House electricity in 2016. Official data shows that the presidency spent N45 million and N36.7 million on State House electricity in 2016 and 2015 respectively. The budget estimates show that the office of the president is proposing to spend N1.3 billion next year. The president’s office spent N1.6 billion in 2016 and N1.2 billion in 2015. Details of estimates show the president will spend N188 million as honorarium and sitting allowance, which is less than N276.8 million he spent in 2016 and N223 million in 2015. On food stuff, the president is proposing to spend N114 million. This figure is little below N103 million he spent in 2016 and about twice the N69 million he spent in 2015 for the same purpose. There was about N200 million reductions on what the president would spend on travels next year compared to 2016. The president is planning to spend N978 million on travels – N739 million foreign and N239 million local. The president spent N1.2 billion and N944 million on travels in 2016 and 2015 respectively. The president’s chief security officer (CSO) is proposing to spend N123 million next year. This figure is about five times the N25 million he spent in 2016. The CSO had no budget in 2015. The office of the vice president is planning to spend N448 million in 2017. This figure is higher than the N289 million it spent in 2016 and N227 million of 2015. The vice president’s budget estimate for travels has increased unlike the president’s. He is planning to spend N306 million – N218 foreign and N88 million local - against 2016’s N43 million and 2015’s N33 million. On food, the vice president is proposing to spend N53 million next year, against N6.7 million of 2016 and N11million of 2015. The 2017 estimates show that the VP’s sitting allowance and honorarium has been hiked to N27 million from 2016’s N8 million and 2015’s N6.9 million. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/fg-budgets-n5-6bn-for-aso-rock-repairs/177704.html#UwGDcLecUCAA18Ew.99 |

Entry Level Salaries of Nigerian Companies and Agencies as at 18 MAR 2015 If you’re looking to get an idea of how much some popular Nigerian companies pay their entry-level staff (i.e. newly employed fresh graduates), then you’re just on the right page. Read on to see the exact figures that these companies pay. Bear in mind, however, that the information on this page is subject to sudden change, so some figures may no longer be correct. In addition, even though we’ve tried our best to ensure that the figures and estimates are correct, we admit that the information here can’t be 100% accurate. Some figures represent net total with tax deductions, while some represent salary without tax deductions. All values are for monthly pay (not annual). Oil exploration companies pay at least N500,000 for entry level employees, while servicing companies pay at least N200,000. Multinational oil companies pay according to global standards because their employees can be deployed to anywhere in the world. This explains why they pay the highest salaries. Most bank employees don’t get to earn the figures listed because the figures are for professional staff, whereas 75% of bank staffs are contract staff who don’t earn up to one-third of the figures listed. So, don’t be surprised to know that most “bankers” don’t earn as much as the listed figures. Aviation companies pay between N600,000 and N800,000. Actual salaries may vary slightly depending on qualification and unit. Most companies offering seemingly low salaries bolster their pay with juicy allowances. https://www.google.com/amp/nigerianfinder.com/entry-level-salaries-of-nigerian-companies-and-agencies/amp/?client=ms-opera-mobile&espv=1 |

FriendChoice:The commission should have been named: Boko Haram affected states commission(BASC) |
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC, Zamfara) and his works counterpart, Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano) Tuesday failed to make Kano and Plateau part of the beneficiaries of the North East Development Commission (NEDC). The Senate had on October 20 during the third reading of the bill included Kano and Plateau states as beneficiaries of the proposed commission. The commission, if established will be charged with the responsibility of rebuilding the North-East region after years of destruction by the Boko Haram insurgents. Our correspondent had in November exclusively reported that the conference committee comprising Senators and Reps had removed the two states. However, during the consideration of the report of the conference committee Tuesday, Marafa and Gaya insisted that the two states be returned. Marafa called for the rejection of the conference committee, saying " Kano and Plateau states suffered more damages than some states in the North-east. " We should throw away these recommendations because they are not in tandem with our resolutions. Out of the 14 members of the committee, only five signed the report because of the injustice, "he said. It was at this point that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki asked the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume who submitted the conference committee to shed more light. Ndume appealed that the report of the conference committee be adopted, saying Gaya in his bill on North East Development Commission did not include Kano. Saraki put a question on whether the report be passed or not. Then the senators voted in its support. " Let us move forward and come back to amend it. We will do it within the shortest period, "he said. Read more at http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/kano-plateau-fail-to-make-it-into-north-east-commission/175815.html#eg1Cq1df3y0zg1xL.99 |

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has won Ghana’s presidential election, defeating incumbent President John Mahama in a hotly contested election according to result released by media outlets across the country. Mr. Akufo-Addo party also triumphed over Mr. Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), in parliamentary elections that also took place throughout Ghana on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. President Mahama’s bid for reelection was hurt by widespread voter disaffection with an economy that has stalled and a sense that the incumbent president had lost touch with everyday Ghanaians. Mr. Akufo-Addo rode a populist message into office, promising voters that he would reverse the rot of the past few years of the NDC’s rule. Results of polls showed that the opposition party capitalized on Ghanaians’ desire for change to upstage the incumbent President. The national electoral body has not officially declared the results, but most Ghanaians have accused the body of complicity as it has stalled in announced results of the election as widely expected by a majority of Ghanaians. http://saharareporters.com/2016/12/08/ghanaian-voters-pick-opposition-candidate-nana-akufo-addo-new-president
