Money can just about do anything including fixing your tranny. The question is: is it cost effective in the long run to fix? The transmission will need a rebuild or be swapped. I am just trying to be objective but the choice is yours.
Thanks for your advice and input, I truly appreciate it.

Please anyone knows where I can get transmission from an accidented SUV or a good mechanic that can rebuild mine?

To be honest, I would rather put the vehicle for sale as is while disclosing the issue to prospective buyers. Honda automatic transmissions between 1998-2005 are not the best and I would not want to risk installing a used transmission only to have issues in the near future. Considering the mileage and the lack of trust in Honda transmissions in those years, I will just move on and get another vehicle with the money from the sale plus the one I would have used to fix it.

Just me 2 kobo
The tranny can actually be fixed. The only challenge is getting a pro who knows how to fix it. Acura is a luxury brand and this particular MDX is very rugged.

Kai you don buy agbana, the person who imported that car is wicked, unfortunately that is the only type of affordable car that can be legally imported
This is serious agbana. I actually bought the SUV from BJ MOTORS here on Nairaland and to think I just sold my 2001 Acura TL after driving it from May 2009 to January 2017 without any major issues.

I am certain, I will get the best solution to this problem and enjoy the ride until it is replaced.

I am 99% sure the tranny is shot. I have unfortunately dealt with such before. You have stated the two obvious options you have other than getting rid of the vehicle. I would probably go the route of rebuild if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a while because you do not know what the condition of the "new" transmission is in. And when you say "new," I am guessing you mean a used transmission but new to you, right?
Yes, by new I mean a used transmission. My main fear is finding a trusted mechanic that can rebuild the tranny without any recurring problems in the near future. Preferably, I would have loved a used tranny from an accidented 04 or 05 MDX.

Bottom line, I need the best guy to fix it.
Car Talk2003 Acura MDX Slipping by mmrius(op): 10:04pm On Mar 22, 2017
I bought the 2003 Acura MDX January 2017. I first noticed the gear changes in a hard jerk the very day I bought it on my way home. This happened about 4 times after about 3 hours of driving. After, I did a full service, the jerking stopped, but always happened once in a while when I drive long distance. When I put the SUV in gear, reverse to be precise, after driving for a while, it takes about 20 seconds to pick. When I step on the gas, the RPM goes up, then the SUV starts to slowly take off, which means the transmission is slipping. The SUV drags for a while before eventually moving as it should.

Last week, I drove from Ajah to Sango, the jerking started from Third mainland bridge, then the transmission partially failed when I got to Sango. The A/T temp light came on and the SUV started to drag. It was moving very slowly till I got to my destination. After about two hours, I headed back home, the A/T temp light was off and the SUV was driving normally.

The hard jerk when changing gears started again, then suddenly the gear refused to engage when I was in traffic. I had to switch off the ignition and turn it back on before it engaged.

I have checked the transmission oil and it is normal. It does not smell burnt or feel loose. I have watched severally videos on YouTube and I am convinced the transmission is bad and needs a replacement or rebuild. More so, the mileage on it is about 313,000.00 miles.

Please experts in the house, how do I fix this dreaded transmission problem?

Do I purchase a new transmission gear or have a pro like Gazzuzz do a rebuild.

nurey:
if am picking the BMW it would be the one fitted with 4.4L V8, better response than the 3.0L V6. But if i travelled to other states, i would pick something common on road due to unforeseen circumstances, there are times your vehicle can breakdown not because of maintenance but road quality and other factors beyond your control.

i would prefer a toyota Prado probably V6, makes it easy to beat security operatives delay during interstate, very common and can withstand harsh Nigerian roads Not saying the rest arent also rugged
Great advice Nurey. The only issue is the price of the Toyota Prado and its very common. I love cars that stand out. You also have a great point on unforeseen circumstances. I once got stranded at Ijebu Ode when the 2002 Volvo V70 I was driving over heated and the gasket burnt. I could not get the radiator in the whole of Ijebu Ode. I had to hire a cab to Ladipo to buy one.

However, is the Toyota Prado fuel efficient? since it is not listed amongst the top 10 fuel efficient SUV's online.

I will go with the XC90

Affordability and availability of genuine parts are my reasons

Reasonable technicians abound in daleko too
Thanks for the input. I intend to buy it for my wife due to its safety features. The Acura MDX seems not to be very fuel efficient. I will feel more comfortable knowing my wife and kids are in a Volvo XC90. Thanks again.

Hello Everyone,

Please I need your advice regarding buying the best SUV using the following as a yardstick:

i. FUEL EFFICIENT
ii. SPARE PARTS AVAILABILITY
iii. SPARE PARTS AFFORDABILITY

I tend to travel alot from Lagos to other states for business purpose. The SUV's on my list are:

1. 2007 BMW X5 3.0i (Most preferred)
2. 2007/2009 VOLVO XC90 (Second preferred)
3. 2008/2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid (Least preferred)

Thanks for your professional advice.

Hello everyone,

I am in search of a 3 or 4 bedroom duplex to let. Preferably alone in the compound or 2 tenants in the compound. Never more than 2 tenants in a compound.

Preferred area is Lagos Business School, Abraham Adesanya, Ajiwe, Mega Chicken and environs.

My budget is 600k - 800k. Any house above 800k please don't bother. (Paying 800k for a rented apartment in these times is a huge miracle).

If you have what I need for my family, please leave your number and details of the property and I will give you a call as soon as I can.

Thank you for your time.

josite:
ffk is forgiven.he has simply spoken like a child that he is concerning Nigerian affairs.what he must now be told is there is a spiritual permutation concerning Nigeria's power configuration and it is for a reason and a season that buhari is allowed to be president .so far the spiritual permutation is very much on course as right now buhari has been seen taking nigeria to where nigeria will not want to go towards.the way things are configured from the very beginning ,both buhari and tinubu are planned to lose out.my brothers and sisters there is fourth man in the fire and it is that fourth man that is in charge of nigeria.someone should please write this down.fani kayode did not not know nationhood is too important to be left for politicians alone,so he cant think beyond politics and politicians.did he think abiola and abacha died the way they did by reason of politics?
You definitely have insider knowledge about the politics of Nigeria and most importantly the spiritual angle. Buhari will lose and maybe Tinubu may also lose out, but his legacy will remain legendary. Fashola will definitely pay for his arrogance towards Tinubu except he has gone to prostrate to him. Amaechi is definitely with Tinubu and hopes to be President in 2019 or 2023.

After all has been said and done, the 4th man in the fire decides who will govern Nigeria. But then again, Tinubu is an ambitious man who can always turn the hands of time and have his way like he did in the 2015 election. The man is dangerous, cunning, calculating and very wise. He knows who is on his side and those against him. If Buhari goes against Tinubu, then the North may never govern Nigeria in another 30 years.

Thanks for the tips. Knowledge is always power. Sadly, few of those criticising this post are either auto mechanics who don't want folks to possess this knowledge or they are damn ignorant.

I have fixed a nagging problem in my car by myself twice after spending thousands of naira with no result. A simple search of the problem on Google and watching the video on Youtube on how to fix it was all I did and the problem was fixed. It's called DIY - Do it yourself.

The table has suddenly turned against the EFCC and this case will become that of the hunter becoming the hunted. The family of the deceased can make over 200 million naira from EFCC if they get a good lawyer.

Whether he is guilty of fraud or not is irrelevant now. The man is dead and his life cannot be "refunded".
