Your math is wrong bro..
20million X 5000 = 100billion
100billion X 12months = 1.2trillion naira.
So this scheme amounts to a meagre 1.2trillion Naira a year. wink

Politics / Re: Nigeria Finally Resumes Industrial Commercial Coal Mining by mobbi06(m): 6:30pm On May 24, 2012
In my opinion this offers a very solid solution to Nigeria's energy problems. we are all talking about natural gas but what we do not realize is that focusing our attention on natural gas creates a path dependence which will be difficult to overcome in the long run, thus reducing our options and ability to respond to market risks and volatility.
Similarly, by focusing on natural gas only, we are inadvertently creating an undiversified energy sector and given that natural gas prices and supply tends to follow that of oil, and that electricity is characterized by volatility, we will be exposing ourselves to price shocks and supply disruptions; the increasing the volatility in the system.
As someone rightly pointed out, Nigeria's carbon footprint is inconsequential when compared to other countries like the US, UK, China, and even Germany so in my opinion we can afford a coal plant or two. This is even more important when we consider the fact that coal offers cheap affordable electricity, and the retrofits (like filters, scrubbers, flue-beds) that can help reduce the Nitrous, sulphur and mercury pollutants that coal generates.
Also, there are unconventional technologies like the Integrated Gasification Combined cycle (IGCC) which turns coal into gas by synthesis (Syngas), removes the impurities, and allows the combustion of clean natural gas obtained from the coal.
Nigeria as a signatory to the Kyoto protocol can take advantage of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) program, that is available to developing countries who are part of the Kyoto protocol, to bring such unconventional coal tehnologies to the country.
If we have the property strategy and regulatory approach, we can make it work...

islamrules: U are still making excuses on luck, missed penalty. Do u even need penalty to beat a 10 man team? I expected you to beat them 6:0 with Terry, Cahil, Luiz and co.

Yet you failed to beat second choice defence team.

U cant even go past Ramires a mid fielder talkless of Boswinga a low rated defender. And u are blaming luck and penalty.

Hissing

Whether you like it or not, luck played a major role. However, that is totally irrelevant cos all that matters is that they got the win. you guy's need to get over with the euphoria.

Bla bla bla bla bla...wetin sef!!! I love Barca bit I was rooting fro Chelsea because I am fascinated with how Roberto Di Mateo (the underdog) has turned around with his tactics; really showing what one can do with the right resources. But una Chelsea fans no go let person drink water. After all you guy's paid a high price for the finals, loosing four key players in the team. so i'm wondering what sort of final the team would play...hope it doesn't come back to hunt you guy's cos i am hoping for an explosive finals...

Chelsea wins 1-0 and they won't let the world breathe air again. "Come learn how to play football...come make we teach you"...TWADDLE!!!! Chelsea rode their luck tonight, parking the bus in front the goal and Barca missed a chance at the beginning and at the end of the match (it just wasn't their night). I wonder if Chelsea can ride that same luck at the Camp Nou in Spain during the return leg (very unlikely).
On the up side, I'm glad to see what Roberto Di Mateo has done with this Chelsea side. Really impressed with their from of late and the way they have played against other opponents. Goes to show how much these coaches can achieve if given the necessary resources.
Nice work Chelsea.

Just that we weren't allowed the use of calculators and figuring out the square and square root of decimal numbers wasn't funny at all. Beyond that i think it was a fair test.

Politics / Re: We Will Resist Privatisation Of Electricity by mobbi06(m): 12:22pm On Dec 09, 2010
@ hercules
I seriously do not believe what you are saying because the power sector is one of the very few industries where the principle of competition and effective allocation of resources is applied to the wire, almost as is in economic theory.

@blazay
you have just stated one of the key issues of the Nigerian power sector, which is the extent of infrastructural decay and sabotage. This in itself is one of the major barriers to private investment in the power sector, and given the level it has reached it creates worries when we think of the cost the consumers will bear after the private firms have invested in generating and distributing infrastructure.
We must also note that privatization in other countries also involved the participation of foreign investors like in the UK, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. This however does not justify a hundred percent foreign controlled power sector in Nigeria. I think it is left to Nigerian investors to garner themselves to see how Nigerians can also participate in this.
Politics / Re: We Will Resist Privatisation Of Electricity by mobbi06(m): 2:28am On Dec 09, 2010
@Debosky,
i must say that you are very right and your statement here is a vivid indication of a person with the proper understanding about the issues of the energy industry both in the developed and the developing nations as well.
Like you have noted, there needs to be appropriate price signals in a energy industry, one  that sends out the correct message to investors in such a manner that investment is timely, ensuring that the balance between energy supply and demand is maintained.
However, in Nigeria's energy industry we see a situation where the intervention of the government by adopting regulatory mechanisms such as price caps have created a distortion in the normal operation and flow of the energy system. As such, low electricity prices have failed to send the correct signals to investors and this has stalled the investment in the energy industry, manifested by a lack of adequate transmission, distribution and generation systems.

Also, i think another problem is the fact that Nigerians do not understand the concept of privatization. The regulation of our energy industry created a monopoly (PHCN), and privatization will rid us of that monopoly by introducing private competitors in the generation and distribution systems, allowing us the consumers or the people buying electricity and the producers of electricity to determine the prices by allowing the interaction of demand and supply as in a normal competitive market.

furthermore, a mere look at our energy industry will show you the ineptitude of government handled organizations, even though the government has the welfare of the people at heart, it is unable to balance the effective organizational attributes, efficient decision making and hands on skills needed to run the power system, and the needs of the people.

If we are to look at the subsidies in the electricity sector, we will understand how much the government spend in keeping electricity prices low and how that money can be used in creating jobs else where. I have researched and found that this is the downside of subsidies, once they have been implemented people begin to see them as a right from the government and letting go becomes a problem. this is typical of countries like Nigeria.

The privatization is a right step, but my problem with the entire scheme is the unclear nature of the market model that the government intends to adopt. Are we looking at a single buyer, a multi-buyer model or a hybrid model? these things need to be made clear for us to have a clear representation of the intentions of the government.

I think what the government needs to do is to create an understanding between itself and the people of Nigeria. It needs to ensure that there is a clear understanding of its policies particularly when it involves issues that affect the allocation of the resources at the individual or household level.

i wrote the test last year at Ijaniki in lagos, and boy was it a shocker. i got there very late at the first cos i was very sick oin the day. on getting there i found that the test was all about production engineering, and production optimisation quiestions. like if a machine can releases milo at a rate of 6g/m3 and that can fill an 800g tin of milo, 6 in 4 minutes , and those are packaged in a 500m3 drum, 50 in number, at precise what time and day will the entire drums be filled if the production started at 4:35pm tuesday.
you know that kind of stuff, and quite frankly, ai did'nt find it funny.
so i hope this can help guide you in your preparations, and i wish you the best of luck.
Politics / Re: I Am Tired Of NEPA by mobbi06(m): 3:24pm On Dec 31, 2007
he he he he!!!!! grin grin grin grin grin grin. I don think sotay i don dey craze. whether you call it nepa or phcn na still the same thing; dead body change name. The problem of power in this country is one that transends just generation alone. it also includes transmission and distribution.

first of all, in my own reckoning, Nigeria needs at least 3MW in order to satisfy the consumption needs of the nation.but at the moment , we are generating less than 2MW in all entirety, for over 100million people to share.
then there is also the problem of load forecasting which is the most important ingredient in any power system planning process. this means that if you are to supply 5MW to a geographical area like Rumuokoro in port Harcourt, then as a engineer, you also have to consider the fact that within the next few years, the population of that area will increase and as such, should make arrangements to increase not only the amount of power generated, but also the load distribution within the area.

i can tell you that in the area where i live, our transformer has packed up nothing less than 10 times this year; with enough low voltage in between times.

As for me, i would suggest that the entire power industry should be restructured. from the Generation, to the Transmission, to the Distribution phase.

One way of doing this is for the federal govt to allow private firms to handle each of these phases indepently.
For the generation phase, we already have Hydro and gasturbines. but you see, due to the fact that the gas turbine produces a lot of wastes at high temperatures, which are also harmful to our environment, it leads to reduced effeciencies.

in my opinion, the energy that is waste should be channelled  to another turbine; e.g a steam turbine, which is less efficient in terms of amount of energy generated, but when added to that generated to from the gas turbine will go a long way in solving a lot of the generation problems. besides, the waste product is steam and in extreme cases, condensed steam I.e water.

just the other day i was so pisse off becos we had not seen light in over a week, and there was no water in our tank. i actually started considering the use of solar panels to our very basic needs like; solar pumps for water, phv's for lights, fans, and even the refrigerator. but alas the cost of installing such panels are too high for the average Nigerian to afford.

as for nuclear, i do not stand with the idea that Nigeria needs nuclear energy. why?
becos
1) It is tooooiooo damn expensive
2) knowing us for our efficacy in being grossly inefficient, and our lack of maintenance culture, a nuclear fission is all we need to become non-existent or the second Chernobyl.
Nuclear reactor is not for me.

if the generation phase can be properly handled, then i don't think the transmission and the distribution phases should be a problem with the right people in place.

For heavens sake, we have power system engineers and professors in power system analysis . yet we still find ourselves walking on troubled waters. i would really like to be one those few people who can provide a solution to the nations power problems i.e if given the opportunity.
WE NEED THE RIGHT PEOPLE IN THE RIGHT PLACES TO DO THE RIGHT THINGS.
