1. As much as I try to hold off, your ignorance still amazes me. Please accept that your knowledge of oil and gas is not beyond what you skim from pages of blogs and online news.........
2. The PSC regime clearly states that the FG is the OWNER of all Oil and Gas assets. Producing communities and by extension states are other stakeholders. In a PSC arrangement government is the owner of all assets including the one you put on ground
3. Who told you companies have zero technical expertisehuh Please educate us and name the companies that have zero technical expertise.
The question of what is fair is relative. First off, the Federal government offer licenses for take either in bid rounds or discretionary awards. In bid-round it's a case of winner takes it. You outbid your opponents, you get the license. In discretionary awards a lot come into play. Yes ex-heads of states, government officials and friends are given these licenses, but not free of charge. These people then go look for foreign partners.
4. In the industry, you cannot even operate the license if you don't have the expertise and war-chest. Many of these OPLs are lying there for over a decade because the owners cannot secure the requisite investments to explore not to talk of development and production. Imagine if you're to invest $100m in exploration and you find nothing. This explains the foreign investors presence.
5. Your Alakija angle just sparks naivety on your part. Even before she came into the scene, many indigenous producers had partnered with multinationals on working equity basis. This is the fastest way to develop an asset at a relatively quicker means and will not put a huge debt burden on you. Besides banks are slow to fund exploration exercise. So if banks wont fund exploration, is it not better to solicit the assistance of the multinationals who have the resources and experience?
6. If you want to know what criteria was used for award of license, you need to go to the NNPC website and read it up. Yes some friends of the government get the license and it cuts across all tribes.
7. On this, you're flat-out ignorant. Please stop flying ridiculous statement from a more ignorant Senator Enag. Ownership of oil asset is NOT 75-80% North......
I never claimed to be a pipeline engineer neither did I present myself as being oil & gas savvy, but I read (which 90% of Nigerians doneven bother to) & keep abreast of current trends & events, so using technical terms does not negate the question I asked you..

OPL OML jv assets, whatever you say, two things are well known..

1. The licences are only awarded to cronies of the government of the day & done in utmost secrecy. it never gets in the public domain till it becomes a source of controversy..

2.The list of oil block licenses we've seen are filled with majority northeners & until another is brought out to counter that, that is the official List...

There are crops of young & vibrant biz ppl who can assemble consortium of investors to bid on these licenses but for the naija factor of [/b]man know man & political patronage...[/b]

We are discussing corruption & fairness, you are the one making it a tribal issue...

Miss me with the bamboozle tactics, I am no wailer,I am only stating the obvious.. undecided

Bros,

Slow down there.........stop spewing Ignorance

1. The Federal government has stopped JV arrangements over 20years ago
2. Today all Oil wells belong to the FG. Non-JV Oil companies are mere contractors/custodian/License holders.
3. It is an outright FALSEHOOD, to alledge that 75-80% of wells being owned by northerners. This lie started by Senator Ita Enang is in bad taste, many of you guys spread, sometimes ignorantly and sometimes maliciously. The below link will give you a picture

Own the license if that is what you prefer!! Like you didn't understand my point. undecided

BUT

Do you think its right for an Individual/ portfolio coy to be contractors/custodian/License holders as you are claiming with zero technical expertise in the fieldhuh?

Tell me how many of them actually utilise the licenses, they in turn contract it out to major oil coys like folorunsho alakija did with chevron on the agbami oil field& danjuma did with Agip.

Minus the relationship to the govt of the day, what other criteria was used for the awards?

Get off your high horse, we are not all ignorant, neither are all objection malicious..

Buhary, remove your eyes from the oil wells... at the expiration of the current licenses in 2016, the oil wells must be evenly distributed among Nigeria geopolitical zones. (We are watching...)
Individuals & portfolio companies are not even supposed to own oil wells, that is the corruption we are talking about...

The current composition of 75 or is 80% of wells being owned by northerners is a travesty & injustice as well..

The sane thing to do is to award them with the principle of federal character enshrined to real oil firms with real stake & expertise in the biz & not political associates....

Kashamu’s award tears NANS apart

OCTOBER 7, 2015 : TOBI AWORINDE

The National Association of Nigerian Students in Ogun State has criticised the national leadership of the student body for naming the senator representing Ogun-East Senatorial District, Buruji Kashamu, the ‘Golden Man of the Year.’

Three weeks ago, the National President of NANS, Tijani Usman, was lampooned by the Coordinator, South-West (Zone D) of the association, Okikiola Ogunsola, for faulting the arraignment of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, by the Code of Conduct Bureau over allegations of false assets declaration.

Similarly, Usman, while presenting the award to Kashamu last week in Ogun State, had said, “We decided to honour Senator Kashamu because we know that he is neither the richest businessman nor politician in Nigeria, yet we constantly hear of his philanthropic gestures to Nigerians of all shades and colours, especially the less-privileged.

“We are fascinated by his large-heartedness even in the face of needless distractions. We reckon that if all wealthy Nigerians are like Senator Kashamu, the country will be a better place for us all. That is why we decided to encourage him by giving him this award.”

But in a statement criticising the award on Tuesday, the Chairman of NANS in Ogun State, Dotun Opaleye, distanced the students in the state from the position of the national leadership.

The statement partly read, “Our attention has been drawn to an ignominious NANS award presented to Senator Buruji Kashamu representing Ogun-East Senatorial District by our National President, Usman.

“This incidence is terribly disturbing to all sane minds and is capable of drawing the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari backwards when men of questionable character who are wanted by American authorities for drug crimes are celebrated by the apex student body. We sincerely ask: What is so golden about Kashamu? Is it because he destroyed the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West?

“What has Kashamu done for Nigerian students domiciled in Ogun State to merit such award? Even in his immediate environment, he hasn’t been able to donate a single toilet to schools like Olabisi Onabanjo University or Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, not to mention other schools in his senatorial district like Tai Solarin University of Education.
