See what Buhari has caused, even Cameroon now deporting Nigerians. SMH!!

Buhari's name translates to "badluck" in English.

Ondo is an oil producing state, it should be top on the list. How many APC states produce Oil?

PDP states, producing oil for APC states to choke on.

If other regions arent alien, give Ogonis the opportunity to leave Nigeria and see if they will invite the Okrika man to join them though they've been neighbours for centuries

Truth be told, the tribalism and sectionalism has gotten deep into the marrow of Nigeria..most tribes/erhnic groups believe that that their destiny isnt attached to another tribe and they will happily go it alone...

Im asking you if not for geographic boundaries thay puts some of us in same state what do we have in common both in language and culture.

Am not 'happy my resources end up in the North', am also not happy it is shared in some part of the south..but i will be most satisfied if i held onto all of it..what is mine is for me alone.
You're not a pragmatist, the idea that only your tribe would enjoy it is shallow. This is why northerners own most of your oil wells, not looking at the bigger picture is what has kept you and your kindred in the poor state you are now.
As long as you lot fight each other, the north is bound to rule over you and dictate your destiny.

My guy, You are hitting the nail on the head. This is the main issue the ND will have to contend with. Where do we draw the line on ownership. If a community owns the oil, shouldn't the state in which the community lies also own the oil? If the state owns the oil, why shouldn't the whole country own the oil.

This talk of true federalism is just to confuse and divide us. Did gej care about true federalism? all the rich think about is how to distract us as the fleece us dry.

Mogidi, I do not want ur trouble this night. My apologies to the Igbos for my careless post.

What I would truly love for us to do is come up with suggestions to increase the general productivity of Nigeria. We would not be having any conversation on true federalism if there was no mass poverty in the land.
So how do we reduce the poverty in Nigeria. How do we move from primary industries to value added manufacturing?

Is it not a shame that after 40 years of oil exploration, we still have to give 40 percent of our revenue from crude oil with multinationals because we lack the technical know how. Nigerians are smart people. What is wrong with us?

Take cocoa for example, Europeans cannot live without chocolate. Can't we form a cartel with other cocoa producing countries and force companies that produce chocolate to open factories in our countries?

I see no strength in a divided Nigeria. We are blessed beyond our understanding but for the failure of our leaders.

When I hear talk of resource control and true federalism, all that comes to my mind is greedy Niger Deltans who ignorantly do not know what the true cause of their problems are.

Today, I have realised that fiscal federalism can be used to change our current system with a hope of increasing accountability of our leaders. This is a good reason. Will it work? No one knows.
You had a lot of interesting points.

The constitution will state the percentage all the federating units will pay to the centre govt for it's running.
And those in charge of drafting that relevant part of the constitution would all be northerners. Don't for one second think the north would give up the largesse it enjoys as members of our commonwealth.

What is the relationship berween say an Emohua man and a Khana man..language? Culture?..if can't understand and relate to me what is the difference between me and a fulani to him?

Why should an Ogoni share resources from his oil with Ikwerre or Ahoada or Ndoni man..did he tell me he doesn't know what to do with resources?

As far as local govt is in place, they should control their resources from their locality..they suffer the brunt of mining and exploration of their resources, so they should enjoy it alone.

And if theres an argument in the locality, the family having right over the land should take the highest and pay percantage to the local govt...it doesn't get truer than this.
You're arguing from the stand point of an anarchist.
You paint other lga as aliens, your perspective is shallow, look at the bigger picture. Are you happy now that the bulk of your resources ends up in the north?
Politics › Re: Nigeria Still Has A Date With Truth! by Mogidi: 11:20pm On Jul 10, 2015

Not just the village, the argument will end at the family level.the family who owns the land will demand their land, their oil.

The true federalism or fiscal federalism or whatever its called will be argued nonstop.agitations and court cases and judgements will abound because the Nigerian sectionalism has eaten so deep..The local govt chairman may become the juiciest elected position...You see local councils splitting along clannish lines. That is when you will know that in Opobo, the Nkoro man (maybe because he produces the bulk of the oil in Opobo) wil say his clan should be a separate Lg and agitate for that..The Ogu man in Ogu/Bolo same thing, the Akporman in Obio/Akpor LGA.

The endpoint will be the family within the locality where the mineral resource comes from..they will want control of resource wirhin their land..It will be a huge misuse when opportunity is given to Nigerians.
Give it to the states and the scenario you painted above won't occur.

Resource control is not about transferring powers to the governors, but to the locality. Yes the state's governor will gain more resources, but I submit to you, accountability will be better too. Is more easier to raise hell with the powers in Asaba than the man in Abuja.

Yes. The very same way.

Fashola was wrong deporting igbo's from Lagos. It must also be noted that the majority of people in Lagos are Yorubas and they have their own specific culture. To live in peace in any society, you must act accordingly with the prevailing culture. Igbos tend to fail in this aspect.
The Igbos that got deported contravened what specific rule apart from being born Igbo?

With what we have now, unitary system of govt, the president has the power and he controls everything which includes the resources. With fiscal federalism, the state controls it's resources and pay a certain percentage to the centre. The governor is the head of the state so that means the governor controls the resources. Without policies in place, the governor can get greed and then what we have presently in Nigeria (embezzlement and mismanagement) will be experienced.

If we can adopt the US method where individuals can own the oil well so far it's on your land and then they pay tax to the state, this can help eliminate corruption and mismanagement to an extent.
At the emboldened, who would determine the percentage paid to federal govt?

How exactly has it helped? You complain on this board incessantly about how Amaechi spent billions on his 1 km monorail and how he should be probed by EFCC. Same with the past governors of Bayelsa and other ND states. So if Rivers State had 50% derivation, Amaechi's monorail would have cost trillions and not just billions.

Giving kleptomaniac leaders more money is not the solution!
Saudi kings and Kuwaiti monarchs are some of the most corrupt people on earth. Do you know why it seems negligible, (you guessed it), there's a lot to go round.

Wait a minute.

Why should a state control their resources in fiscal federalism, why not the local govt chairman control what comes from his locality.

why should Opobo pumping 200,000bpd of crude oil share the resource with Khana that has locked down its oil wells since 1994?

afterall he is elected by his people and the resources from his locality should be used to develop his locality.
Lets not go there mate.
If Opobo is pumping 200,000bpd of crude oil, should the village where the oil is located enjoy it alone or should the whole Opobo reap the benefits?

I am Nigerian and my region is the whole country. Do you know how oil got deposited in the Niger delta region? Do you know how oil is even created? What makes you claim that the crude oil solely belongs to Niger Deltans? Don't you think you are also a parasite just trying to rip where you did not sow after all you did absolutely nothing to put oil in the ground.

The problem dull people like you have is that you fail to understand what your own problem is. Your problem is the level of poverty in the Niger delta and Nigeria as a whole. The discussion on this thread is based on how do we solve that problem and not necessarily true federalism per se. I hope I have clarified things a bit for you.
At the emboldened, same way Lagos is a no man's land right?

looking at it holistically, there will be a wide disparity in states, some governors will use the instrument of state police to subdue the opposition and not forgetting that the north will be backward and will be a bigger threat to others because their leader might use religeon to decive the gullible masses.

I think we need to devise a system that works for Us but resource control should be the paramount thing in any new system. Let Nigeria jhave their own federalism that is suited for Nigeria and tailored to our lifestyle
I do agree with you but we would have to try out devolution to examine those points you raised. Years ago the military made Nigerians believe democracy was not good for us till 1999 when we went full throttle. There would always be governors who would want to use instruments of state to their advantage, but we need to try devolution to ascertain its deficiencies. Democracy or devolution can only grow when we put it to the test. I bet many Americans also raised the point of "Tin gods" after there civil war.
Northern oligarchs are the ones scared of "dual federalism"

The juror pool could be drawn from students of higher institutions, professionals, entrepreneurs, workers etc.
However, civil servants, military personnel, law enforcement personnel, and public office holders should be barred from jury duty. This could prevent any conflict of interest.

As another poster said earlier, the jurors could be sequestered or under surveillance through out the court proceedings. And the identity of the jurors should be kept secret until the end of the trial.
Don't you think the juror pool would be too limited and constrained if civil servants, military personnel, law enforcement personnel were exempted?
This is not what happens in Europe or America right?

Fiscal federalism and corruption are two diffrent things but how can we really curb corruption in the component units since we know the recklessNess of our governors.

I'm now having a double mind with devolving a lot of power to the component units
Devolution is the way forward, when states no longer relies on the federal govt for funds, they would become more prudent. No more building of 1kilometre road for xxbillions.

When the fiscal federalism is introduced, that's when we'll know the States heavily dependent on the government at the center. When those states go super broke, they won't wait to be told in order to become innovated and creative thereby creating their own revenue streams...
Except the state belong to the ruling party.
Buhari didn't ask Aregbese what he did with his allocation and most of the states owing belong to APC.

Do you see the need for some defined limitations to the powers exercised by the states?
Since we would remain in the same republic, the answer would be yes. "dual federalism" would curtail corruption, the present system where states goes for elephant and unsustainable projects would cease. Waste and corruption starts when governors starts hteir "own projects" rather than finishing the ones of their predecessors.
For example why would a small state like Ekiti spend billions operating an airport when neighbouring states are few miles away? It would greatly reduce waste, you spend what you earn, no more running to Abuja for bailouts. It would become very obvious who the incompetent governors are.
