This is the proper way to fight corruption, the illiterate way would be to put people in crates en-route to Nigeria to be sentenced to 150yrs imprisonment.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited the Metropolitan police of London to Nigeria (Metro Police) to assist in the investigation of present and former governors, senators and other public office holders who are involved in financial misappropriation, money laundering or any other financial crimes.

Revealing this to a team of selected journalists yesterday in Abuja, the chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, stated that the commission is determined to rid the country of corruption which necessitated the invitation of the UK police.

Speaking further, Lamorde noted that the partnership between the two anti-crime agencies had begun a long time ago and has contributed to the successful arrest, prosecution and jailing of former Delta State governor, James Ibori among other suucessful stories.

Lamorde, who declared no hiding place for public office holders who are involved in corruption, also explained that Nigerians should not expect instant arrest as the investigation process would take a longer time to conclude.

Lamenting the inability of the commission to conclude some cases against former governors, ministers and other public officers, Lamorde noted that criminal justice system in the country is largely responsible as cases are always dragged on for years without judgement.

Also speaking to journalists at the event, the leader of the London Metropolitan Police, Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Benton, said that they are in Nigeria to support the commission in fighting corruption.

He also noted that with the help of International Financial Centre, which is playing a major part in the partnership between the metropolitan police and the EFCC, the investigations will come out successful.

Buhari overthrew Shagari over $2.8b oil scam; Tinubu wants APC VP slot – Ikimi

By Wale Odunsi
Ex-Foreign Affairs Minister, Tom Ikimi has alleged that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammdu Buhari, staged the 1983 coup that ousted the Shehu Shagari-led government because he was indicted by the Justice Ayo Irikefe panel that probed the missing 2.8 billion dollars oil money.

Ikimi, who stated this at the weekend during a rally organised by the Peoles Democratic Party (PDP) in his hometown, Igueben, Edo State, also accused Bola Tinubu of trying to impose a Muslim-Muslim government on Nigeria with himself as Vice-President, saying the nomination of Yemi Osinbajo was just a fluke, as the intention was still on course.

He said: “When you talk of corruption, you can only know someone who is corrupt by what appointment you give him.

“He was Minister of Petroleum and before 1993, they smuggled 2.8 billion dollars, which was in our MidWest Bank in England and put it in a notorious bank known as BCTI.

“By the time it was discovered, that money has yielded an interest of over 400 million dollars. Up till now, nobody knows where that interest money is.

“They instituted a panel headed by High Court Judge, Ayo Irikefe. The Irikefe panel came out with a White Paper that indicted this man; he quickly made a coup to bring down the government. That was the reason for the 1983 coup that brought down Shagari government

“Some even say they want to see the paper for the 20 million dollar. I want to see the paper for the 2.8 billion dollars for the 1983. Therefore, what is good for the goose is good for the gander

“They say Buhari is there because they claim he is Mr. Integrity. Is there any integrity without having any certificate, is there any integrity in not going to school, is there any integrity in lying about your qualification?

Alhaji Sani Inuwa-Nguru, former Interim Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe, three members of the State House of Assembly, and over 10,000 members of APC have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP in the state, Alhaji Sule Doguwa, said this on Sunday while addressing PDP supporters in Damaturu.
According to Doguwa, the three lawmakers are: Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf, representing Damaturu Local Government Area; Alhaji Kaigama Umar, representing Jakusko Local Government Area and Alhaji Kachalla Mai-Hassan representing Gujba Local Government Area.
He said with the massive support that PDP was getting in the state the party would win all positions in the February general elections.
Doguwa called on the party’s supporters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to enable them vote in the polls.
Speaking of behalf of the defectors, Inuwa-Nguru, said they took the decision in the best interest of the people of the state.
He said the people of the state were yearning for better leadership that would enhance their standard of living.
“ I am therefore, happy to formally announce our decision to dump the APC and join the PDP together with our over 10,000 supporters,” Inuwa-Nguru said.
Earlier, the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Alhaji Adamu Waziri, said the party had become a strong united entity had that made the high-profile members of APC in the state to join it.
The former Minister of Police Affairs said if elected, he would lead Yobe to become one of the best 12 states in the country.

ABUJA–All Progressives Congress, APC Campaign Organization has said that it would hold the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP should any misfortune befall its presidential candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari.

The Campaign Organization also advised President Jonathan and the leadership of PDP to take charge of their campaign for re-election before their surrogates plunge Nigeria into confusion and anarchy.

Reacting to a front page wrap-around cover advertisement on yesterday’s edition of some newspapers in which Nigerians were asked to choose between life and death, grouping General Buhari among former Nigerian leaders who were either killed or died of natural causes while in office, the APC campaign through a statement signed by Mallam Garba Shehu, Director of Media and Publicity of the Campaign described the development as the height of political desperation.

“This is the height of desperate tactics by the PDP, which is capable of degenerating into unnecessary bloodshed and destruction. They are choosing death for us. This is not politics. We are therefore, asking our supporters to stay calm and be law-abiding.”

“The whole world is watching and that if anything happens to General Muhammadu Buhari before, during or after the elections, under the pretext of X, Y, or Z, we shall be left with no option than to conclude that the PDP and their surrogates are to be held accountable,” it said.

The statement further stated “even as a candidate, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has a duty to lead the country with responsibility up until May 29, when a new President will be inaugurated.”

It further appealed to “all APC members and millions of supporters of Buhari across the country not to play into the hands of the PDP hatchet men to be provoked and thereby, giving them the much-needed excuse to abort this democracy before or after the elections.”

APC campaign also said that it remained faithfully committed to the peace accord signed by the country’s political parties under the auspices of Ambassador Kofi Annan.

It however alleged that the PDP is paying lip service to this commitment by trying to stroke the embers of hate and smear campaign, which he said is inconsistent with the commitment to peace.

Audu Maikori Tackles Muhammadu Buhari

I watched Buharis campaign speech yesterday and I left feeling like I was listening to my father speaking to me- and that’s sort of natural afterAll he and my father are about the same age. Buhari is an awesome figure, very impressive in terms of what he stands for as a person . Indeed i must tell a story – way back in 1998 during the perennial university strikes I was in kaduna during one of the perennial fuel scarcity episodes. I was at the ungwar Rimi filling station and had been on a line for 3 hrs or so waiting for my turn to buy fuel. And if you can recall those days, fuel lines were like military camps and people were violent if you tried to jump the queue unless you were a friend of the petrol station manager or a soldier And Buhari drove into the area in his 505 looking for fuel and somehow people saw him and all of a sudden people started moving their cars out of the way to allow him drive up to fill his tank.

This people did without compulsion-it was out of sheer respect of him, the man, the father figure- that was Buhari(pre -PTF).

If Buhari was going to be allowed to run the country based on his ideals alone, I would probably change my mind ( after I get past the age factor) But honestly speaking , governance is not strictly about a single personality- it’s a series of conversations around different interest groups and institutions and walking the fine line between your decisions based on personal interest or moral values and / or public interest- which usually means a politicized decision.

I feel that a Buhari presidency though well intended will not achieve much due to the fact that he will try to purge Nigeria via old school methods which are no longer practical. He will be the face but the real machinery will be run by some of Nigeria’s most “pious” politicians – people like Tinubu, Amaechi , Atiku ,etc. The question is will they allow him to stop the business as usual environment they have benefited from to their detriment?

When he spoke about sharia a few years back which was seen as very inciteful and how it was necessary in Nigeria, he spoke as a devout Muslim that he is- but the statement was so politically incorrect especially since you know that same Sharia implementation led to the death of thousands of man and women in kaduna state alone in the early 2000′s This led to the division of southern kaduna from northern kaduna and the relocation of the people to Barnawa and beyond due to religious intolerance.
When it comes to elections, I personally feel that we are asking a man who’s ways and actions are set to suddenly become dynamic and new and do so with the support of leaders who were not just part of the PDP rot but were key players in it. Suddenly the are born again and old things are passed and have become “new”…

Goodluck is far from perfect but I see him continuing to make steady inroads especially in the area of the economic advancement of young people because the cliche is true – the youth are the future but the future is now and here!
Has he done well? In some areas yes but in security no. That’s the fact. I won’t go into the reasons why not but we should note that the rot in the army started many years before Jonathan and the insurgency only opened the cankerworm that was hidden because the need to protect Nigeria hadn’t arisen in over 39 or so.

About corruption having worked around government for almost 3 years I now understand things I never quite understood. Most of the corruption in Our country is usually attributed to government and the civil service which is true but we forget that they need collaborators in the private sector to successfully perpetrate these crimes. The best way to fight corruption is to build institutions and use technology to fortify them so they can reduce incidences of corruption- that’s the truth. You can’t tap an MTN line like we used to tap the box telephones at home in those days. You can’t pass the Lekki toll gate without paying 120 at the automated gates but the politicians can set up companies to surreptitiously buy the company that owns the gates( hope you get my drift) and that’s done at top level. You can’t also fight corruption if you tip a policeman at every checkpoint instead of taking the day off and ensuring you get your drivers license so wecan stop the extortion – yes that too is corruption.

Why is budget implementation so poor?because the National Assembly unduly politicizes the process leading to late passage of the bills ( in 2013 it was in July / August same as 2014) so when projects don’t get delivered its mostly because of slow passage of the bill.

The other reason is that the appropriations committees can tamper with the budget how they like that’s why a project like the perilous Lokoja -Abuja road which led to the death of many Nigerians took over 10 years to be completed because the amounts appropriated by the NASS was simply inappropriate to adequate fund the completion. It was only when Sureprogramme intervention came that the road was fast tracked ( as most can testify) same with the railways , roads and bridges etc- why?because the SUREP funds were better insulated from tampering unlike many other projects approved for completion. There are now policies being put to change this to make execution more effect off of the lessons we learnt via Surep on a federal level.

But I digress, I agree that GMB is a fine gentleman and leader but I also believe that if I did vote for him I would be doing so nostalgically not realistically because there’s a new Nigeria where people are earning a living off their talents and passions and creating a new middle class which was virtually non existent post GEJ and that’s the Nigeria I want to be part of…Agriculture is becoming the new sexy and his administration has pushed it even more than Obasanjo ( a renowned farmer did). No matter how I explain FB or Instagram or the global economy to my dad now he may not fully grasp it as a person below 35 would and I fear that I would rather move forward imperfectly than go back to the past in search of Utopia.

This is just my view of things and I have taken time to state it and not berate GMB – it’s my vote , it’s my choice, some will say that I vote for hm because of SUREP. But honestly I do so because in him I see a man who is imperfect, struggling with his imperfections to make things better and I see room for improvement and change….in all fairness we are all sort of like that trying to get a better report card and improve on poor subjects of last semester. In the latter I see an upright man of integrity and high discipline who doesn’t yet realize that one of his disciples may yet betray because they don’t stand for the same ideals.

2015: Northern Youths Vow To Mobilise Support For Jonathan

Northern Youths, under the umbrella body of Arewa Youth Integrity Forum has promised to mobilise 20 million youths across the 19 northern states for President Goodluck Jonathan’s second-term bid.

They commended the President for his visit to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital last week, describing it as a bold step.

The youths, in a statement issued by its national president, Hamid Usman, on Sunday in Abuja described Jonathan as a statesman who was sympathetic to the plight of his followers, commending his courage and bravery.

They described the courage shown by the president in “travelling to Maiduguri which is seen as a hotbed for crisis as not only commendable but exemplary for all intending leaders.”

While expressing their support for the second-term bid of the President, the group said Jonathan had proved that he had what it takes to drive Nigeria to the next level, having defeated the local content of insurgency and ready to fight the foreign elements that had joined insurgents to make Nigeria ungovernable for the citizenry.

“The president had proved wrong a section of northern elders who said the president can not campaign in the north.

“We are confident that Mr. President will campaign anywhere in Nigeria even the north where it has been proved that he is popular against the propaganda advanced by spent horses.

“We are also confident that he will trump his opponents at the polls.”

Form CF001 says apart from filling your qualifications, you must attach them; you must attach photocopies of your qualifications; and to attach means to bind; it means to glue-to. “So, if you do not attach them, you have not satisfied the minimum requirements; it is therefore not proper to refer INEC to go on a wild goose chase by saying they should look elsewhere for my qualifications.

The legal practitioner observed that Buhari’s decision to refer INEC to the Secretary of the Military Board for his credentials was like an applicant referring the interviewer to the last place he or she worked.
