beautyhd:Some key factors are responsible for the results we are getting in our recent elections that make it porous and different from what it used to be 1. Southerners no longer give birth to many kids like in previous generations unlike their northern counterparts. 2. Alot of Southerners have moved abroad to settle in different parts of the world in search of better and quality life with no hope to return. 3. Also, We are beclouded by our sophistry. We are hanging closely to our imaginary and utopian dream lives without doing much pragmatically to achieve them. Instead of going out to vote on election days, we rather stay on the phone or glued to television, trailing feelers and reactions from quarters of no concern. On the other end, average aboki is multitasking by listening to radio even while casting his vote. 4. As of today, an average southerner believe that with his/her phone, exposure and education, he/she deserves the best and more than anyone even without lifting a finger. How true can that be? All we do is sending kids to school without positioning them for power. We need to school our kids on how to lead and how to be led. 5. These and more are the combination of factors that bring about low turnout in elections in (southern) our region and eventually bring disaster into Nigerian leadership. Mind you, it happened in the past also but it's getting bigger and worse now. |
Oxb90:He has limited or no choice. Muslims are minority in the south so the Christians in the north. By calculations, Tinubu choosing a Northern Christian vice means two minorities as running mates with technically the least chance to win any election. Now my concern, does it mean the status quo will never change and we want this country to get better? Every Nigerian should be at liberty and filled with hope to aspire to any level in life including presidential aspiration so long he/she is qualified. Be it Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba, Muslim, Christian, Traditional faith etc. A Muslim from the south and Christian from the North are also Nigerians and should be at liberty to contest irrespective of their permutation and calculation. The electoate can only complain with their voters card and not by heating the polity with sentiment-laced utterances or any campaign of calumny. However, I personally have fears about this election process as a whole because not so much has changed since 2019. The usual script and suspects are still on display. No body is shifting any argument towards issues and values. We are spending too much time on candidates rather than what they can offer. We the electorates are taking undue position just to curry the favour of our loved and desired candidate. Not bad though as we are human....but let's ask ourselves- for example, that since our Constitution and structure is fundamentally wrong, why are the contestants not speaking in that regard? Your answer may be as good as mine- may be, that some electorates (northern) will reject such candidate. If so, then the same reason Tinubu is trying to assuage some block voters too. Honestly, Nigeria needs revamp and I am lost as to how to go from here. Because I don't understand why Buhari who has nothing to loose again cannot even take the remainder of his tenure to sort and sanitise our Constitution and structures out in a way that who ever comes in can do better. Present Government keep setting the future ones to fail. Finally, I know an average Ibo reading my take, may feel disappointed but be rest assured that I am aswell, infact every sane Nigeria is. I have said it before now here on Nairaland that we need a united South to defeat the problems bedeviling Nigeria. It may be difficult to achieve but the easier it is the better Nigeria we can achieve. I won't denigrate the personality of Obi as I don't know enough about him to do so. He is far older and more accomplished than my humble self. I only hope to do well and better in life..... Whoever wins between the duo, I am fine. All we want is a greater Nigeria |
Good evening everyone hereon. I have applied to renew my passport since 27th of June. I took the DIY route considering the timeline I desired to follow. I am worried that uptil today (past a month) it is still in the verification of NIN stage. Although my appointment date is Sept. 8. To my question now- Is there anything I need to do in order to avoid possibility of capturing on the said date? Or better put, how do I know (get the assurance) that my NIN is verified? Thanks to all in anticipation of a swift response.

Honestly, alot (if not all) has been said. Nevertheless, land acquisition and ownership in Lagos is not child's play infact it is very complicated, complex and cumbersome than trusting any person (even professionals) to explain or lead you. Our society is wired wrongly, government left us to our respective fate by allowing the predators to feast on the prey. In this case, the predators are the land owners, grabbers, vassals, Omo-oniles and all other professionals whose work revolves around landed properties while the preys are we the unsuspecting gullible prospective buyers or investors dying to own a property. In sane climes, it's government responsibility to provide housing for citizens. The madrush to own a property is borne out of government's inability to do the needful. Everyone just want to feed off your hard earned money. They want to rush and pressure you into buying anything acting like they are seeing things you can't see. Behold! They are as blind and unsuspecting as you if not far more. However, you still need folks (solid and intelligent people) to succeed in anything.... BUT be wise, use your intelligence and intuition more than your impulse i.e use your head and not your heart. Ensure you keep a circle of accomplished friends/family of which some of them know about what you are about to put your hands. I realized your intention is to own two separate lands at two separate locations simultaneously. IMO, This clearly shows you are investing to make more return in future and not so desperate to put a roof above your head. So my advice for you will be limited to that line of option. Everyone has really helped you by saying one thing or more. Please take to their words, appreciate them and read between the lines as much as you can BUT shine your eyes. In addition, any land you want to acquire, make sure you have double (or more) of the cost of the land. The reason is for you to get instant allocation of your land and begin construction almost immediately. In Lagos today, na who get house or structure on the land get upper hand o. I know some novice may want to quote law, but as I have said earlier, land matter especially in developing areas of Lagos is another wahala one should avoid. I am experienced in all of these palaver, so I am no stranger. I can conveniently say it's a business I have stayed-in in the last 10yrs. You mentioned "paying for deed of assignment". Apparently, that is the practice in recent time. Do your negotiation once and pay up after all due diligence. In summary, 1. Be aware that the procedure for buying of land varies from location to location. 2. Know that you can not succeed in secret nor can you succeed alone please go there with few persons (possibly professionals) of substance who understand the workings of buying and developing lands. 3. Conduct independent findings both formally and informally (if you can) formally is land matters offices with state government and registered surveyors while informally is people from within the location of the property. 4. When done and satisfied with feedbacks and findings, negotiate well with the right party and pay with reasonable term. While doing that, get video evidence of your agreement and endeavour to pay via bank transfer for record purpose. In addition, get all the right documents e.g right of ownership or deed of assignment, (family) receipt,Survey plan and certificate of occupancy (if involved), Job card (where and when necessary). 5. Take ownership of your newly acquired property by erecting or altering the structure to establish the dawn of a new era. I wish you, myself and everyone hereon the best. NB. I painstakingly put this piece together cos I know the economy is harsh and I don't want you or anyone to be robbed of your hard earned money |

The Idea of a better Nigeria can be birthed by anybody but will require many people and to achieve greater Nigeria. All Tinubu needs to do is to provide leadership for "men" and get it working. Nigeria shall rise again Fahdiga: |
An Open Letter to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (The Jagaban of Borgu) Let me begin by congratulating you sir, on your hard-fought, hard-earned, deserved and "tear rubber" victory. Yet, another feather to your cap and a testament to the fact that you are a spartan, a resilient fighter, a thorough bred democrat, a schooled strategist, an uncommon unifier, maker of men, a sage and one of the most coveted politicians of our time. Having followed your political stint and evolution keenly in the last 25years, I make bold to say that you deserve to be a model for other politicians and upcoming generations to study due to your vision as a leftist, a social democrat, a party man, a progressive, a fighter, a bridge builder, a political economist and an administrator per excellence. The quality and quantity of work done in Lagos under your Administration while you were the Governor is very much available to attest to the lot you have achieved. Importantly, the role you played in the sustenance of democracy is unforgettable and uneraseable. You provided succour and support both at home and especially abroad for the other victims of democratic activism. Indeed "you are the man the moment calls for" as paraphrased in the speech you rendered on the convention ground before the contest. The just concluded All Progressives' Congress (APC) special convention held at the Eagle Square, Abuja that produced you as presidential flag bearer of the party has come and gone. As speculated, many doom-prophets thought the party will never succeed in conducting its presidential primary successfully as many Gladiators and Aspirants were poised to compete and that it may be difficult to ochestrate a free and fair intra-party poll. Nay! the APC has successfully come out of the perceived intra party troubles unscathed, consolidated and even much stronger than the Naysayers predicted. The enemies of the progressive camp also speculated that you can never win the primary election because they believed your structure has been largely balkanised and decimated believing that the fallouts with your notable political godsons were negative indices, but you are the biggest winner regardless. Now that the die is cast and the chicken has come to home to roost. One of the hurdles have been scaled, perhaps the toughest. But behold, the battle is far from over and so the victory is yet to be whole. I, just like other well wishers of the progressives, are hoping that this unfinished battle still require alot of strategy, skill, resources and warfare to get all enemies of this country foreclosed. I am aware of your ability and as one of your ardent supporter who have greatly learned from your political artistry and teachings, I am aware enough of how equipped you are to surmount the coming events. I will also never be surprised should you even do the unexpected. Victory is non-negotiable! However, permit me as a baby politician, to chip into the grand plan being put together by your goodself and members of your kitchen cabinets, party machineries and other critical stakeholders. Sir, As a stakeholder myself, this is to call your attention to a critical path that you must never neglect and I trust you are already aware it's one that will make your eventual (God willing) victory at the general poll in 2023 more resounding, widely acceptable and generally appealing to all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion or association. Apparently, your victory has healed the APC family, so it has healed and pacify the Yoruba nation. I want you to be magnanimous in victory by helping to heal other regions through extension of olive branch to your other contestants who lost to your victory, especially your protégés who refused to see why never to compete against you. By doing this, you are solidifying your already robust political base and depleting that of the opposition or enemy. In addition sir, I beseech you to reach out to people of Southeast in order to pacify them and to douse tensions from that region brewed by perceived marginalisation and secessionist agenda. As a matter of urgency, you need to send emissaries to or meet with the elders of that region and forge a pact that can guarantee mutual trust, national cohesion, regional brotherliness and ultimate victory. Although, this part of my piece is not meant for public discourse but nevertheless, I don't think I have any other or better channel. Therefore, I owe you this fact however- hence, my submission hereon . It is a known fact that you have been selfless in the last 15years (since you left the seat of the Governor of Lagos) deploying men, money, mental and material resources into nurturing "boys into men". I can't be writing like one who know more than what is at the public domain but I am certain that your mental sagacity as a political strategist must have taken huge toll on your ageing. Those whom you have been nurturing with your health and resources in over the last two decades are the same folks selling the campaign of calumny to Nigerians that you are too old and weak to preside over a nation like Nigeria but you have responded finely with the landslide victory and the response "that the job of a president of a nation is not a bricklaying excercise". Indeed your words are correct as you have strategised and orchestrated a decent victory over other competent and qualified contestants even when they claim to be younger and fitter than your good self. I am aware you are truly a thinker and a doer like you have always reiterate to the hearings of your doubters. Indeed sir, I urge you to work by proxy through your trusted allies, foot soldiers and various structures while you break away temporarily to take decent rest, endeavour to reinvent and reinvigorate yourself timely enough for the general election. I do not doubt in my mind that victory at the general poll come 2023 is imminent and so I trust you are optimic too. I pray God rule over all our affairs, ease your struggle, strengthen you and grant your desires. Finally, the current victory is overwhelming and it's worth every frenzy, stake and attention given to it by all concerned. I join other well wishers to celebrate with you sir as I once again congratulate you on your latest entrance into the presidential contest of 2023 as the standard bearer of the All Progressives' Congress. Long live Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Jagaban Borgu Long live APC Long live federal Republic of Nigeria. With Love from Adetoye Adeyemi Kareem. What is deceit therein? Enough of join body and masquerading. If you think power should stay in the north vote a Northerner and if you think otherwise then vote any southerner of you choice. Stop blackmailing any person or region for the present problems we are together into. As a people, we must learn to be critical of ourselves before criticizing others. I think it's time for us to ask our leaders questions than to be pointing fingers at innocent folks. Imagine if this administration had done what all Nigerians hoped for, will you be here blaming or praising Yorubas? Shockingly, I was a fan of this administration in 2014-15 but was not in support of in 2019. Simply because I am convinced it is bereaved of ideas and values capable of driving a 21st century economy or any habitable country. Importantly, I am not a fan of tribe but as a patriotic Nigerian, our current situation demands that the next president have to be a southerner (most likely from the east of South) however, the Igbos must earn presidency of this country by negotiation, consultation and persuasion with other southern folks. A South East presidency can never arrive by threats, violence, name calling, retaliation, disloyalty, envy, political prostitution etc. https://www.nairaland.com/7174004/open-letter-asiwaju-bola-ahmed |
