6. Under the circumstances, I hereby enjoin protesters and the organisers to suspend any further protest and create room for dialogue, which I have always acceded to at the slightest opportunity. Nigeria requires all hands on deck and needs us all - regardless of age, party, tribe, religion or other divides, to work together in reshaping our destiny as a nation. To those who have taken undue advantage of this situation to threaten any section of this country, be warned: The law will catch up with you. There is no place for ethnic bigotry or such threats in the Nigeria we seek to build.

7. Our democracy progresses when the constitutional rights of every Nigerian are respected and protected. Our law enforcement agencies should continue to ensure the full protection of lives and properties of innocent citizens in a responsible manner.

8. My vision for our country is one of a just and prosperous nation where each person may enjoy the peace, freedom, and meaningful livelihood that only democratic good governance can provide – one that is open, transparent and accountable to the Nigerian people.

9. For decades, our economy has remained anaemic and taken a dip because of many misalignments that have stunted our growth. Just over a year ago, our dear country, Nigeria, reached a point where we couldn’t afford to continue the use of temporary solutions to solve long-term problems for the sake of now and our unborn generations. I therefore took the painful yet necessary decision to remove fuel subsidies and abolish multiple foreign exchange systems which had constituted a noose around the economic jugular of our Nation and impeded our economic development and progress.

MTN has closed all its offices and customer service centres across Nigeria after a weekend of customer outrage. On July 29, 2024, the legal case against MultiChoice Nigeria Limited was dismissed after Barrister Festus Onifade withdrew the suit against the company and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). MultiChoice had requested a stay of proceedings, leading the tribunal to reschedule the hearing to November 2024. Onifade withdrew the suit, fearing the delay might obstruct his case and allow the company to appeal the court’s decision.

The tribunal, led by Thomas Okosu, found no barriers preventing MultiChoice from filing a stay of proceedings. The case involved subscription fee hikes for DStv and GOtv. MultiChoice’s lawyer, Moyosore J. Onibanjo, sought an adjournment due to the company's vacation period, claiming they could only address urgent matters during this time.

Onifade argued that MultiChoice could not control the tribunal's schedule and refused the rescheduled hearing. The tribunal approved Onifade's request to withdraw the suit.

The suit, marked CCPT/OP/2/2024, accused MultiChoice of increasing subscription fees without the required one-month notice in April 2024 and disobeying a court order by implementing the price hike on May 1, 2024. Onifade filed a notice to jail MultiChoice's Abuja Manager, Mohammed Sageer Sani, for contempt of court.

Earlier, the tribunal had issued restraining orders against the price increase and dismissed a preliminary objection from MultiChoice’s lawyer. The tribunal fined MultiChoice ₦150 million and mandated a one-month free subscription for Nigerian users.

Adakole, a UK-based Nigerian scholar, has been unable to access his funds after OPay restricted his account for receiving N952,363. Despite his attempts to resolve the issue, including sending multiple emails, OPay has demanded business documentation irrelevant to his savings account. Meta posted a whole blog about Nigeria yesterday, and let's just say, it wasn't flattering.

Here goes: The Facebook parent company has taken down about 63,000 Facebook and Instagram profiles in Nigeria involved in financial sextortion scams.

These scams usually involve scammers pretending to be attractive women to trick victims into sending nude photos. Once they get the photos, they threaten to release them publicly unless a ransom is paid.

Besides these profiles, Meta also removed around 7,200 resources, including 1,300 Facebook profiles, 200 Pages, and 5,700 Groups. These were used to run the scams, offering tips, scripted conversations, and links to image collections for creating fake identities.

On Sunday evening, a Max Air flight NGL1649 carrying 119 passengers and six crew members experienced a major incident during takeoff from Yola Airport in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The Boeing 737 aircraft with registration 5N-ADB suffered multiple tyre bursts during the takeoff roll and subsequent taxiing off the runway.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers and crew. NSIB has dispatched a go-team led by the Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., to visit the incident site and conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the tyre bursts and ensure all safety protocols were followed.

INTERPOL has announced the results of Operation Jackal III, a global effort that exposed the notorious Nigerian-based gang and 25 other criminal syndicates. Conducted from April 10 to July 3 across 21 countries on five continents, the operation led to over 300 arrests and identified 400 suspects. Authorities froze more than 720 bank accounts and seized $3 million in assets.
