Egyptian addicted to stealing cuts off both his hands… by allowing a TRAIN to run over his wrists

An Egyptian man has sliced off both his hands by placing
them in the path of a speeding train to overcome his
stealing addiction.
Ali Afifi, 28, was apparently so appalled by his
habitual crimes that he took his punishment into his
own hands.
The young man, apparently guided by the rules of Sharia
law, severed both his hands in his self-inflicted
purgatory.


His decision was likely to have been drawn from the
Islamic teaching of Sharia law - the principles, rules
and subsequent punishments that inform every element
of life for those who practice Islam.Mr Afifi said his
stealing 'disease' started at a young age, first
taking his friend's lunches at primary school. It then
escalated to items in shops and until recently he was
taking people's mobile phones and gold jewellery.
He said he used to give the money he made from the
thefts to children and poor families.

But Mr Afifi was unable to cope with the guilt and
decided to cut off his hands to put an end to his
compulsive behaviour. He said he wants to help his
local town, improve the buildings and build a youth
centre. He also wants to marry but doubts an Egyptian
woman would take him because of his history of theft.

The Islamic legal system deals with many issues addressed
in secular law as well as informing daily decisions of a
personal and mundane matter, including hygiene, fasting,
prayer, diet, politics, sexual intercourse and marital
rules.
Interpretation of the law by Muslims varies between
cultures, but it is accepted in some countries that
repeated stealing is punishable by cutting off the hand.

Normally, a person caught stealing would be summoned
to a Sharia court where Islamic jurists would issue
guidance on an issue.
But for Mr Afifi, from the central Nile delta region
of Tanta, Egypt, he decided he knew what his fate should
be, according to the 'divine law'.
According to Sharia law, stealing is considered one of
the most serious crimes as specified by the Quran.
A Sharia court may issue a punishment of some kind of
injury to the hand to someone caught stealing for the
first time, such as slowly driving a car wheel over the hand.
In countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia and northern
Nigeria, amputation for repeated stealing is still
practiced. In Egypt, however, the courts have not
permitted judicial amputation for many years.
Last year, however, under the new Muslim Brotherhood
government, MP Adel Azzazy, from the Salafi-oriented
Nour Party, proposed a bill to reintroduce amputations
for certain crimes.
He called for the application of 'Heraba' - extreme
punishments for crimes including overt robbery, murder,
forcible taking of property with a weapon and
vandalising public facilities.

The penalties according to Azzazy’s bill were
execution in the case of murder, or cutting one arm
and one leg from opposite sides of the culprit’s body in the cases of robbery and
forcible taking of property.
If the taking of possessions is accompanied by
murder, the penalty would be death or crucifixion,
to be determined by the judge.
The bill, according to the Egypt Independent, also
stipulated imprisonment for intimidating citizens,
and that the prison sentence will end when the felon
repents.The penalties would only be imposed on adult,
mentally-stable wrongdoers, who either committed the
crimes or assisted in carrying them out, according
to the bill.

Two British women assaulted and flung in hellhole Chinese jail after row in shoe shop... and now they can't come home because their visas have expired

Two British woman have been detained in China for more than two months after their dream holiday turned to nightmare.
Modupe Idowu, 59, and her friend Esther Jubril Badmos, also 48, were arrested after becoming embroiled in a dispute at a shoe shop in the city of Guangzhou.
They were locked up in 'hell-like' conditions at a detention centre for 38 days and although they have now been released, the two women remain trapped in the country as their visas have expired and authorities refuse to issue them new ones.

Mrs Idowu's desperate family said the two women's ordeal began Ms Badmos asked the shop to amend an order she had lodged earlier in the trip.
She was then assaulted by two members of staff before both women went to a police station.
Mrs Idowu, from Islington, North London witnessed a vicious attack on her friend.
Daughter Sarah Murray said: 'Although Esther tried to defend herself, she was pushed to the floor, kicked and beaten - and handfuls of her hair were ripped out.
'A security guard locked them in a room and another man, who we think is the shop owner's brother, came to the room and punched Esther.'
When they arrived at the police station their passports were seized and they were pressurised into signing paperwork they didn't understand, before being flung into a cell overnight without food and moved to a detention centre the next day.


Ms Idowu, who is known as Mary, was put in a cell with six other women - forced to sleep on a wooden plank and go to the toilet in front of the other prisoners.
Her friend was taken to the centre's hospital where she was treated for her injuries.
Meanwhile Mrs Idowu's five children have struggled to find out any information about their mother - despite paying lawyers in China around £4,000 to find out - and two of them flew to the country to track her down at the end of July.
Both women were released on July 29 but since then have been met with an onslaught of demands including a £20,000 claim for damages from the shop owner, which was eventually settled with £4,500.

But their visas have now expired and they cannot be issued with new ones until police provide paperwork to show the charges had been dropped.
Despite endless visits to the police station, officers refuse to tell them when, and if, the documentation will be provided.
Mrs Murray said she barely recognised her mum when she saw her come out of prison.
'When I saw her, I thought she looked like an old woman. She could not walk properly. She was so frail and so skinny as she had lost a couple of stone as she barely ate.'
Mrs Murray, who returned from China last week, added: 'I can't really put this experience into words. We are totally confused. It's like watching a horror film.'
Her sister, Julie Idowu, 26 said: 'Our pain is very real. I have been crying every day. I have taken a lot of time off work as I'm so worried about my mum.
'Her health and mental state is a big concern as well as the fact that she has missed her operation.
'It's an injustice that my mum has been held for all this time for witnessing an assault on her friend.
Her other sister, Elizabeth Idowu, criticised lawyers, saying: 'People are exploiting our despair. They are making money out of our continued suffering.'
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said they were aware of the situation and were providing assistance, but could not comment further and said it was a matter for the Chinese.

Mother-of-one Anna Curtis has found love again
after six years - in a murderer on death row.
The 47-year-old from Mitcham, London, sends
kinky letters to prisoner William Speer, 39,
who was imprisoned in 1991 after shooting and killing a man.

Mr Speer was given a life sentence, but
found himself on death row in the
Allan B. Polunsky Unit in Texas
after he was convicted of strangling an inmate in 1997.

Ms Curtis has also exchanged two letters
a fellow inmate of Mr Speer's - the Cross Country
Killer Tommy Lynn Sells - who claimed responsibility
for the brutal murder of more than 70 men, women and children.
The bizarre affair began in January after an
organization which puts pen-pals in touch with
criminals on death row passed on Mr Speer's details.

Ms Curtis admits she Googled Mr Speer before
putting pen to paper.'I wasn't bothered about
what he'd done in the past; I just wanted to
put a face to a name,' she said.
'With some people, you can see the evil in
their eyes, but just from looking at his photo
on the internet, I knew he wasn't like that.''

Since then Ms Curtis has exchanged hundreds of
letters with the six-foot-nine-inch lag, who
she calls her 'gentle giant'.
She says they have even discussed marriage,
and she is planning on visiting him next year.
Ms Curtis, who has never been abroad and has
just applied for her first passport, said:
'He hasn't popped the question yet, but it
could be on the cards.'

The subject came about when Ms Curtis sent
Mr Speer a letter with a suggestive tone.
'When you're exchanging letters with prisoners
in America, if you put the stamp on the envelope
in a certain position, it means something.

'So I put the stamp to the side, thinking it
meant "hugs and kisses", but actually it meant
"marry me,"' she explained.
'We laughed about it afterwards, but I knew he
was interested because we began talking about
how we'd tie the knot when I visit.'
Ms Curtis admits she is smitten.
'No-one's ever asked to marry me before,
and it's something I've always dreamed of
doing since I was a little girl.

'If he did ask, I'd definitely accept because
I'd want him to know that I'd be there for
him no matter what.'
But for now, Ms Curtis is content to exchange
sweet nothings with her love.
'He's a massive flirt. When he writes to me
he calls me his peach, and I get butterflies
in my stomach,' she said.

I remember months leading to the Presidential election how
me and couple of my friends in the office engage people around
