One of the reasons Madrid fans complain about Marcelo, who plays in a vastly superior team to ours, is that he doesn't recover well and leaves gaps behind him. Alonso has been galloping forward as slow as he is because we always have three centre-backs to cover him. In a 4-man back line the other fullback will also be running forward and only two centrebacks will be exploited time and again on the counter, hence the reason people are asking for a new leftback or playing Emerson, who is faster and younger, ahead of him.

you see it like that because in a 3-5-2 alonso plays the wing role and is likely to push up a lot unlike in a 343 where someone is ahead of him.

Marcelo like alves where originally wingers and they still contribute defensively and those guys impact the teams victory by making those runs.

full backs will always overlap e.g walker. the question should be is alonso defensively weak, is his work rate low.

fine if alonso doesn't play lb, you have Emerson, Cesar, Zappacosta. honestly defence isn't Chelsea's main problem.

the lb back role has already become the lwb role. No difference. As a full back for a top club if you are not making runs and joining attack you will be dropped. Alonso has the energy for that.

am telling you, and Alonso has the stamina to play every game week in week out. and in a high defensive line he will still be playing like a lwb.

Now here is it, if Chelsea sack conte and hire Sarri we will be playing four at the back come next season and u and I know Alonso is vulnerable as proper LB. Emerson is still not quality enough to mount our LB, so it will be wise to get a proper LB with quality in person of Sandro while Emerson play as back up.

Emerson is still not quality maybe as a starter but in time if coached well., when Tottenham's boss started using Kane, tripper, dier, rose and co were they quality enough. even Sarri took low profile players into Napoli and made use of them. quality is not about hype it's about performance.

in the middle you still have Kante has DM and Fabregas has a CM then beside them RLC as a CM or Van ginkel. That is if Barkley and Drinkwater refuse to recover and step up.

the major surgery would be in attack. If Hazard and Willian stay, a new winger would still be needed.

anyway Barca employed VD who had won nothing before, Bayern employed kovak from Frankfurt who had just recently won something. Madrid got Zizou who hasn't won anything at the time.

Chelsea might not be as big as those clubs or even be in an easy league as "burndisleague" but Sarri is definitely worth the risk. (I think )
