Emaprince: Indeed this Maresca was a traitor.
Chelsea made him who he is. When he was killing our league games by reserving important players for Conference league matches, I madebit clear here that the coach was being selfish and playing to boost his CV through winning of a silverware - the conference league...which was the weakest European club tourney.
He succeeded and then the CWC cemented that fir him. Then suddenly he realised he needed to go to a better club.
I now see the reason why he was killing our winning momentums. Each time we play a big team and win, then win another match...we suddenly become trash in subsequent matches against low clubs like leeds etc.
He knew he was never gonna finish the season...so no need playing to achieve anything for us This post funny die. You really think a coach would intentionally destroy his own CV simply because he had another job waiting for him somewhere? 😂 |

Whatever that might happen in this World Cup, Portugal must not win it. I don't care anyone who wins it, but it must not be Portugal, even if it's South Africa, they already have my blessing and I will congratulate them . 😂 But come 2030, I will climb the highest mountain, fast and pray for Portugal to win. By then, my hate-watch would have expired.😂 |

PDPGuy: 🚨 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗟𝗗 𝗖𝗨𝗣 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧: The Super Eagles remain the ONLY African team to finish top of their FIFA World Cup group in back-to-back tournaments.
✅ 1994 ✅ 1998 A record that has stood for nearly 30 years. If we say it now, they will come for us, but the Super Eagles is still the benchmark for African teams outside Africa. |

afrodoc2: He was right about 3rd placed teams qualifying but wrong about 36 teams.
In our group in 1994 everybody apart from Greece qualified The best 3rd placed teams qualified only at the 1986, 1990, and 1994 World Cups. From 1998 onward, the tournament was expanded to 32 teams, meaning only the top two teams from each group advanced to the R16 |

Kikelomogbenga: 3rd place teams qualifying at the world cup is not a new thing. They have been using it before the 2002 world cup when it shifted to 36teams. From 1998 to 2022, the World Cup featured 32 teams. Under that format, only the top two teams from each group advanced to the R16. There was no provision for the best 3rd placed team to qualify for the knockout stage. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by MorataFC: 9:52am On Jun 27 |
Potvalor: Africa/CAF can easily do 80% (8/10) qualification at this point, or even 9/10. Early days, but this is looking like the Best African WC performance so far. Yes, Africa has been impressive so far at this World Cup, but we should also be honest, FIFA has made qualification easier with the expanded format. Before, only 2 teams qualified from a group of 4 teams. Now, as many as 3 out of 4 can go through. If you still fail to qualify under this system, then you probably didn't do enough to deserve it. That's why I was so disappointed that the Super Eagles failed to qualify for this World Cup. Back then, if you lost your first two games, like Senegal did, you were almost always heading home. But today, a team can still qualify with just 3 points as one of the best 3rd placed teams. Personally, I still see the Round of 32 as an extension of the old group stage. For me, the real knockout stage begins at the Round of 16. So while Africa deserves credit for their performances, but we should also admit that the new format has made qualification much easier for every team, ( not Africa alone) than it used to be. |
