Politics › Rufai Oseni: An Anchor In The Eye Of The Storm By Umar Sani by Morbeta11(op): 4:28pm On Oct 08, 2025 |
Rufai Oseni: An Anchor in the Eye of the Storm
Arise Television’s morning show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has once again found himself at the center of public controversy. His recent interview with the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, has stirred widespread debate about his on-air style and professional conduct.
While some viewers have criticized Rufai for being confrontational or overly assertive with guests, many others see him as a rare and principled journalist one who asks hard questions and refuses to pamper public officials with soft, self-serving interviews. His past exchanges with APC stalwart Jesutega Onakpasa and Lere Olayinka, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the FCT Minister, further intensified calls from some quarters for his removal.
Yet, whether such calls are truly based on professional concerns or politically motivated remains debatable. The loudest voices demanding his replacement appear to come from individuals sharing the same political persuasion raising questions about the sincerity and objectivity of their criticism.
The most recent confrontation, with Dave Umahi, has generated the most noise. Some detractors even claimed Rufai asked the minister to “keep quiet,” a demonstrably false statement. A review of the video clearly shows that Rufai’s words paraphrased were polite and measured: “If you could keep quiet and hear me out, you will appreciate my viewpoint.”
From the onset, it was evident that Umahi came to the interview spoiling for a roforofo (mud-slinging) exchange. Rufai, as an anchor, has no duty to massage anyone’s ego. What the public expects are transparent, factual answers not bureaucratic half-truths designed to evade accountability.
Several questions remain legitimate and unanswered: • What kind of contract remains subject to “presidential review” midway through execution? • How could due diligence have been skipped before awarding such a monumental project? • With the President’s directive that 100km of the coastal highway should pass through Edo State, does the total project length rise to 800km or remain 700km with adjustments?
A ₦15 trillion contract that continues to undergo soil tests and preliminary assessments long after award naturally raises red flags. Rufai’s insistence on interrogating these inconsistencies is not disrespect it is journalism doing its job.
There seems to be a deliberate attempt to intimidate or silence independent media voices. Rufai Oseni does not appear to me to belong to the class of “brown-envelope” journalists who seek handshakes or rewards after interviews. He represents a new generation of professionals determined to make truth, accountability, and transparency the centerpiece of public discourse.
I therefore stand firmly with Rufai Oseni on this issue and urge the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the management of Arise Television to continue supporting him as he discharges his duties with courage, fairness, and professional integrity. [b]PALACE PUBLICATION: NO IYEKI GENERAL/IYALOJA IN BENIN KINGDOM!!!
There’s no such thing as Iyaloja or Iyeki-General in Benin Kingdom or Edo land, the Oba in this palace publication advises both those parading themselves as iyeki general and the state govt not to involve themselves or politicize the Edo market tradition.
The market time has been a scared place in the edo tradition, before any market is established it need a direct confirmation from the oba who will in turn provide necessary traditional altars that will protect this market in turn, some one from the market is expected to act as the keeper of the shrine “priestess” and as such mother of the market “Iyeki”. This tradition has been on since the Ogiso era and as such cannot be politicized or changed for any reasons.
The oba also raise concern on the market association themselve should be from anything politics unlike when Blacky Ogiamein was the spokesperson of the Iyeki(s) in Edo land, when she tried to politicize this part of Edo tradition.
The palace also state categorically that all iyeki are autonomous from each other and there are no Iyeki General or Iyaloja in Edo land, our esteem culture and tradition will be protected at all cost.
All Iyeki are there by summoned to the palace 9th October, 2025 - 12noon.

Politics › APC Brought In Foreign Fulanis To Destroy Nigeria –Afenifere Leader, Oba Olaitan by Morbeta11(op): 7:02pm On Oct 07, 2025 |
APC Thrives On Deceit, Manipulation, Brought In Foreign Fulanis To Destroy Nigeria –Afenifere Leader
The leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, has attacked the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of thriving on deceit, manipulation, and deliberate concealment of truth to hold on to power.
Olaitan made the remarks on Tuesday morning while speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme monitored by SaharaReporters.
The Afenifere leader said the APC government has continued to mislead Nigerians through propaganda while failing to deliver on basic governance and security.
“Well, APC is good at what they know how to do — deceive people, manipulate people, conceal issues. That’s their job; they know how to do it,” Oba Olaitan said.
He challenged Nigerians to reflect on their personal safety and the state of insecurity ravaging the country, asking pointedly whether citizens still felt safe returning home after work.
“Do you feel safe where you are now? Going back home after work, do you feel safe? That’s the question. Nigerians, we tell them that they haven’t done anything to us, they’re serving their lives. We, you must have an agenda,” he added.
Speaking further, the Afenifere leader alleged that certain elements within the ruling party, including those who served in the previous administration, were willing to destroy the country to retain political power.
“The last administration before the present government, that is to say, the government they still have there, just because they want to rule this nation, they had to go to the extent of importing foreign nationals, Fulanis to be precise, to come into the country and destroy the nation,” he alleged.
“If they could not get power, they were prepared to destroy the nation. If anybody has that type of mind, what good can come out of it?”
Meanwhile, last week, former President Goodluck Jonathan also made a startling revelation about Boko Haram's willingness to negotiate with the Nigerian government.
Speaking at the public presentation of a book authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd.), Jonathan disclosed that the terrorist group had once nominated former President Muhammadu Buhari to represent them in peace talks with the government during his administration.
"I felt that Muhammadu Buhari would have negotiated with Boko Haram to stop the killings since the sect once nominated him to represent them during a peace talk with the Federal Government," Jonathan said.
He expressed his surprise that despite this nomination, the insurgency persisted during Buhari's presidency.
According to Jonathan, his administration had set up several committees to explore dialogue with Boko Haram.
"One of the committees we set up then, the Boko Haram nominated Buhari to lead their team to negotiate with the government committee," he revealed.
Jonathan believed that this nomination could have been an opportunity for Buhari to negotiate with the terrorists when he took over as president.
However, Jonathan noted that the issue of Boko Haram is more complex than often portrayed.
He said, “I thought that after I left, within a reasonable time, General Buhari would wipe them out. But even today, Boko Haram is still there. The issue of Boko Haram is far more complex than it is often presented.
“So, it’s a bit complex, and not a matter of a single story. But I believe, as a nation, we have to look at the Boko Haram issue differently from the conventional approach. I believe one day we’ll overcome it. Once again, let me thank General Irabor for this, because I always appreciate people who document events clearly. That way, when we write our own accounts, we can borrow from such documentation.”
“I also believe that all the military officers involved in the Boko Haram saga should provide information about what the group truly stood for," he added.
"If you conduct research and interview many people, you will only get part of the story, but never the full story of Boko Haram," he said.
Jonathan also described the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls in 2014 as a permanent scar on his administration. https://saharareporters.com/2025/10/07/apc-thrives-deceit-manipulation-brought-foreign-fulanis-destroy-nigeria-afenifere-leader

Politics › Nigerians Are Hungry And Angry. I Feel The Pain Too - Seyi Law” by Morbeta11(op): 11:43am On Oct 04, 2025 |
“Nigerians Are Hungry, and Hungry People Are Angry People. I feel the Pain too,” Comedian Seyi Law Says
Nigerian comedian, Seyi Aletile, popularly known as Seyi Law, has spoken about the economic hardship confronting citizens, urging leaders to admit the reality of people’s s¥ffeing rather than gloss over it.
Speaking in an interview on Inside the Box, the comedian said fr¥stration among Nigerians is directly tied to hunger and the soaring cost of living.
“Nigerians are hungry and hungry people are angry people. I h+te when we try to switch such things under the carpet, which is what politicians do. I don’t like it. Let us acknowledge the people’s p+in and let them know that this reform is coming with this p+in but at the end of the day we will be happy,” Seyi Law said.
He explained that while he anticipated the government’s reforms would come with difficulties, he also shares in the burden. “I said something that my experience, my understanding does not invalidate your experience. It doesn’t. Did I know that those policies were going to come with p+in? I knew. I feel the pain too.”
Citing his own financial strain, Aletile noted how the depreciation of the naira has deepened expenses for his family. “My family has been in the UK since 2019. For every Naira that I change to pounds, it costs me N2000. It wasn’t what it was costing me before. It means if I was spending N2M before, I have to spend N5M, so it comes with p+in,” he said.
Seyi Law’s comments echo the frustration of millions of Nigerians grappling with the impact of recent economic policies, even as the government maintains that reforms will bring long-term relief. Source: https://x.com/instablog9ja/status/1974418583871468001?t=zEzyvTk9W8RUnBMJPhnynA&s=08

Foreign Affairs › Sara Jane Moore: US President Gerald Ford's Would-be Assassin Dies At Age 95 by Morbeta11(op): 4:58pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
US President Gerald Ford's would-be assassin dies at age 95
Sara Jane Moore, who fired a handgun at US President Gerald Ford in an attempted assassination outside a San Francisco hotel in 1975, has died, according to US media.
Moore, who was sentenced to life in prison but was freed on parole in her final years, was 95.
Her attack came just days after Ford, a Republican, was targeted in an unrelated murder plot by associates of cult leader Charles Manson.
Ford was not injured in Moore's attack, which she said was intended to spark an American revolution. Her death comes amid renewed attention to presidential security following two attempts on President Donald Trump's life.
On 22 September, 1975, Moore fired a .38-caliber revolver she had purchased hours earlier at Ford, but missed.
A former US Marine standing nearby her in the crowd of some 3,000 people then subdued her, forcing her to miss her second shot.
She had been arrested a day earlier after a security official spotted her with a gun at a crowd gathered for Ford. That gun was confiscated, leading her to purchase another gun.
The mother-of-four from California pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison. She served 32 years before she was released on parole.
Her attack on Ford occurred just 17 days after Manson follower Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme pointed a gun at the then-president but failed to fire a shot before she was apprehended.
Moore's death came just days after the 50th anniversary of her attempt.
In a 2009 interview with NBC News, Moore said she had become radicalised by social upheaval in the 1960s and 1970s.
"It was a time that people don't remember. You know we had a war... the Vietnam War, you became, I became immersed in it. We were saying the country needed to change," she said.
"The only way it was going to change was a violent revolution. I genuinely thought that [shooting Ford] might trigger that new revolution in this country."
Investigators found no connections with revolutionary groups, and judged her to be legally sane.
On Tuesday, Ryan Routh was found guilty of attempting to assassinate Trump on a Florida golf course in September last year.
He will be sentenced on 18 December and is facing up to life in prison. Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/crmeln4p44zo

Crime › China Sentences 11 Members Of Mafia Family To Death by Morbeta11(op): 9:08pm On Sep 29, 2025 |
China sentences 11 members of mafia family to death
A Chinese court has sentenced to death 11 members of a notorious family that ran scam centres in Myanmar, according to Chinese state media.
Dozens of members of the Ming family were found guilty of conducting criminal activities, with many receiving lengthy jail sentences.
The Ming family worked for one of the four clans that ran Myanmar's sleepy backwater town of Laukkai, close to the border with China, and turned it into a hub for gambling, drugs and scam centres.
Myanmar eventually cracked down, arresting many members of these families in 2023 and handing them over to Chinese authorities.
A total of 39 Ming family members were sentenced on Monday in the eastern city of Wenzhou, according to a report by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Besides the 11 members who received death sentences, another five received death sentences with two-year suspensions; 11 were jailed for life; and the rest were given jail sentences ranging from five to 24 years.
The court found that since 2015 the Ming family and other criminal groups had engaged in criminal activities including telecommunications fraud, illegal casinos, drug trafficking, and prostitution.
Their gambling and scam activities had generated more than 10bn yuan ($1.4bn; £1bn), according to the court.
Others had previously estimated that the casinos of each of the four families were processing several billion dollars every year.
The court also found that the Ming family and other criminal groups were responsible for the deaths of several scam centre workers, including shooting workers in one incident to prevent them from returning to China.
The Chinese mafia's downfall in a lawless casino town Initially developed to take advantage of Chinese demand for gambling, which is illegal in China and many other neighbouring countries, Laukkaing's casinos evolved into a lucrative front for money laundering, trafficking, and dozens of scam centres.
It was seen as the engine-room of what the UN has dubbed the "scamdemic", which has seen more than 100,000 foreign nationals, many of them Chinese, being lured to scam centres where they are effectively imprisoned and forced to work long hours, running sophisticated online fraud operations targeting victims all over the world.
The Ming family were once one of the most powerful in Myanmar's Shan State, and ran scam centres in Laukkai which held at least 10,000 workers. The most notorious was a compound known as Crouching Tiger Villa, where workers were routinely beaten and tortured.
Then, two years ago, an alliance of insurgent groups launched an offensive which drove the Myanmar military out of large areas of Shan State, and took control of Laukkai. China, which holds significant influence over these groups, was assumed to have given the offensive a green light.
Ming Xuechang, the family patriarch, reportedly killed himself; other family members were handed over to the Chinese authorities. Some have made remorseful confessions.
Thousands of those working in the scam centres have also been handed over to the Chinese police.
With these sentences China is signalling its determination to deal harshly with the scam business on its border. Pressure from Beijing also forced Thailand to take action against scam centres along its border with Myanmar earlier this year.
Despite this the business has adapted, with much of it now operating in Cambodia, though it is still prevalent in Myanmar. Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c78nrx309kzo

Do you know the history of Ekwensu?
Before the arrival of European missionaries, the Igbo’s had a powerful deity called Ekwensu, known for war, and strategy. He was never considered evil and he helped Igbo’s win so many wars.
When the British encountered the Igbo’s, they noticed there was no word for ‘devil’ in the language. Over time, missionaries convinced the people that Ekwensu, the god of war, was in fact the devil.
Making the people turn against the diety called Ekwensu.
Today, many fear him as a symbol of evil, but history remembers Ekwensu as a god of courage, strategy, and war. https://x.com/VivianRora/status/1972688684534083990?t=onS_jREvZ61aqIG1O8jS9g&s=08
